The spinner is about 102mm, but it must be light.

HI Guys.
After the demise of my Tiger Cat. I'm looking at getting a DO-335. Looking at fitting it out with the gear from the Tiger. GF26 front an rear. I'm a bit worried about C&G. All ideas greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Grossy

Please help !!

I lost my wing tube for my ESM Dornier 335. It is somewhere around the house or garage. Of course, it will show up as soon as the new one arrives. Anyway, my best measurements (measuring the id of the socket) is 1.180" so it is probably 30mm.
It would be better to measure the OD of a tube, so could one of you guys who has one please measure the OD of your wing tube and let me know what you get. Also, what is the length? It is probably 32".

Also, if anyone has a wing tube they want to sell, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

What do you guys think of putting a DLE 55RE in the nose and a DLE 35re in the tail? The rear exhaust would make it easy to hide the mufflers. Use cans with small exit hole in fuse for the stinger. I bet that combo would have a bunch of power.

Have now decided on a power setup. Originally wanted to use two power 160's on 10s 5000 each. However, after thinking about it for a bit and totalling prices compared to a different idea....

Club discount at local hobby store yields $117ea for power 160's and 120HV turnigy dlux esc's run $103ea....so thats $440. Both motors would be running 20x10's. Ive used a turnigy dlux 160hv on a 10s setup with a power 160 with zero problems.

BUT....

Here's my other idea..

A rimfire 65cc at local shop discount is $233 and castle 160hv is $220. So......total of $453. Setup would be running the 20x14 Beila 3 blade prop I had gotten and not used for the esm Dora9 and the gene barton spinner has already been cut for 3 blades. SO.....only $13 more then two 160's and their esc's. I know the 65cc rimfire flies my D9 with authority on 12s so it'll be more then adequate for this plane even at 30+ pounds.
I know what you're saying....Kahloq....your only gonna use ONE motor? You? Really???

NOPE......at the tail I will use a smaller motor with smaller prop. I have a couple 5-6s motors lying around and esc's that are not being used. So no additional cost there. A smaller prop at tail will aid on not breaking or scuffing them up plus smaller motor/prop means less tail weight and the 65cc rimfire weighs a good deal more then a power 160 so benefit there on the nose weight for CG. Im thinking a 16x10x3 MAS for this motor. Still plenty of oomph, but not even needed at all. I could even set this up on a mix with an on/off switch and could turn it off at will....though that kinda defeats the purpose of running two motors LOL.

The batteries for the 65cc rimfire I already have also.......2x 6s 8000mah packs. So that will be great for the needed nose weight as well.

Now due to the heavier motor up front, Ill need to add strength there as some have mentioned when using a 50cc gasser. Which also will be good for CG reasons.

Very good idea! I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on that 65cc myself.

No, no, no........you got it all wrong. You need a DLE 55 up front and a DLE 35 in the back. What are you thinking! Then you can get 5-6 flights as opposed to your usual one with that trickle charging power source your thinking of!

I'll let you do the gasoline thing on yours if you get one. I'm not a gasser type. I dont like the smell or the sound. Not my thing and probably never will be. Maybe someday I'll find a use for that 50cc gas motor ive had for like 3 years still new in box, but not at all wanting to cut up the cowls on this plane.

Maybe.....some years down the road....a JU-88 with twin 50cc's. I'd be OK with that.

Engines do require a certain amount of experience and skill set to be successful, but they are far from difficult to operate reliably. Especially gas. Electrics have more of a plug and play aspect to them and I have found through the years that electric only fliers have a small amount of fear of engines.
As far as the sound goes, that is certainly debatable and I find the absence of it with the electrics quite annoying. Especially when the charge runs out. Dead stick with no absence of sound to alert you.
One day I will have a DO 335, more a matter of funds than desire. It will have engines.

You are quite well aware that I have a decent number of fuel powered planes. 99% of them are glow to be sure....but one IS a DLE 30 powered Gee Bee Z. Fear of engines has no role here. For me, the annoyance is getting out to the field with the plane and sitting their dicken around trying to get it running. Ive had my fair number of occurences with that for various reasons. One day they work and seem to be well tuned, the next day, they decide nope..not gonna start and you yourself have even had this happen from time to time. Everyone has their way of wanting to do their planes. For this DO-335, electric is the path I chose. The spinning prop alone on some of my larger elctrics makes it sound like its got an IC motor in them, so not hearing the motors running doesnt quite count.

There are of course benefits to either aspect. Build your planes how you see fit.

Amazing this hobby has endured so long with such unreliable, finicky powerplants! Thankfully electrics have come along to save the day.
