ESM Dornier DO 335

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
I finally get what you're thinking...I'm very slow these days.
The engine on the rear is just for show. The Rimfire will provide all the power.
With that idea, and the weight of the Rimfire so far forward, you might be able to put the 6s (or 5s for that matter) in the center section. That Rimfire plus the small rear motor should make balancing much easier.
I'm with you. This also solves other issues with battery lengths, etc.
I would consider adding extra carbon fiber to the front bulkhead for peace of mind. The China glue is not trustworthy.
I was able to put the Castle ESC in the cowl for greater cooling since my motor was smaller. Where do you hope to put yours?
Jim

There is still plenty of room in front of the firewall since the 65cc rimfire is sitting on standoffs. While the rear motor is more for show of course, it still will add to the total thrust output...albiet not a lot compared to the front motor. The 60 size motor isnt that much lighter then a power 160, but yeah there is a weight difference. I already have an esc with super long motor wires so the battery lead to that esc wont be all that long which is good.

Well Guys.
I've just finished mine. All up weight is 13.4kg.
I running 2 petrol engines in it. A GP26R up front swinging a 16x10 and a GF26 in the rear, usind a 17x8 pusher. I'm getting 7500rpm out of each engine static.
I'll try and post some photos.
First up is the engines.

I had to cut a hatch in the bottom for the front engine. No access for the throttle servo or CDI up front. Bad ESM.... The rear has a hatch, buggered if I know why they did not put 1 up front.

Rear hatch. I've used a mini servo for the throttle to save weight. Same for the 2 servos on the rudder. 16g MG's. The Elev I've used internal hoens and used CF rod and the servos are in the fuz up in the middle.

As manuel stated, 151mm back from the LE at the little dog leg on the LE. Mind you there is not much free space around the front engine. Most is taken up with lead.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Here's an update on mine. Finally got bolts long enough to act as standoffs for my 65cc rimfire. They are surrounded bu aluminum spacers and bolted into blindnuts behind the firewall. I needed to get the clearance for the prop. I had originally bought 60mm length hex head 6mm diameter bolts/blind nuts from Ace Hardware since that was the longest they carried. Wel..that still wasnt enough. After searching online.....very few places have bolts of 6mm diameter over 60mm from anywhere you'd ever think to look. However, eventually came across a motorcycle shop in Indiana that had them. I was able to get 70mm length and those were perfect. I needed the extra 10mm not only for a bit more spacing, but more threads screwed into the blind nuts. They are the exact right length for using a 65cc rimfire motor on this plane.
The wings, retracts, etc are all done, however, I am waiting on some 4.5" wheels that I want to use instead of the cheapy plastic looking hubbed wheels that came with the v2 esm electric gear. Troybuilt was kind enough to swap out the V2 set I had for the new v3's un der warranty replacement even though I had bought the plane and retracts from KMP at the Sept 2012 Warbirds over the Rockies event. As such, those v2 gear had the cheap palstic hubbed wheels. The newer v3's have a light aluminum hub, however, TBM simply swapped out the retract units and not the wheels/tires. I hadnt thought to ask and am not worried about it. I would have bought different wheels regardless.
Im now concentrating again on the fuse.
Here is a short clip of a motor test done with the rimfire motor and the 20x14 Beila prop on 12s.
