Here are some numbers from a 180 test by Clarence Lee, all props are APC two blade, running Morgan 10% with 17% synthetic, 3% castor added for the 30 minute break in.
These numbers were obtained using Morgan 10% with 17% full synthetic, no castor added.
Chris Chianelli tested a 180 using Wildcat Premium Extra 15% with 18% 80/20 syn. castor blend. Right down the line he got 150 higher rpm. This was my favorite fuel for about 10 years until I discovered the Wildcat 2/4 full synthetic.

18 x 8 rpm====8,200
18 x 6=======9,000
16 x 10======8,700
15 x 12======9,000
15 x 10======9,500
15 x 8======10,000
14 x 13.5=====8,800

Interesting Dave. According to those numbers the 180 makes the highest hp at the lowest rpm tested ie the 18x8 @ 8200. Hmmmm

If it would turn the 18 x 8 three blade at 8,000 it would work. I had some big three blades when I ran a G-45 and a Mustang 50.

Walther, the closest I can come to that is a Master Airscrew 16 x 10, the MA is perfectly balanced and has a 10 mm hole. Maybe Lonnie can do some of his number magic and see if this is a worth while comparison. I have 3" Tru-Turn spinner mounted being fairly certain you'll use a pair.

Got a pair of FG-30 for my B-25. They are the Glow 180 equivalent. The largest prop it will wing is 17 x 18, I doubt the 180 glow will do much with an 18 x 8 3 blade.

Walther, the Zoroli 101" B25 is 1/8 scale and weighs up to 36 lbs. 1/8 scale max speed is approx 40 mph. Wing loading is fairly high at up to 50 oz/sqft. Hopefully your build will be a little lighter than 36 lbs but even if it isn't a pair of Saito 180's will provide more than ample thrust and speed using 16x8 3 blade props. Your 180's should turn that prop at 8300-8400 rpm and the pair of them should produce about 37 lbs of thrust with a pitch speed of 55 mph. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Hey Mike, the Pinky Plane looks good. I can't wait to see a video of it flying. but knowing Pete and how he likes a lot of colors because he paints. why don't you put some checker board wrap on the landing gear, I think Pete would like that, I think he would tell us it would all fit in

for comparing. the Saito FA180 should twist an APC 17x8W right around 8900, some guys reported 9000, all on 15%. I know cause I researched it when I bought that * Magnum 180fr, it turned the APC 17x8W at 8800. but it wouldn't hold the needle threw the whole tank. boy did I learn.

Comparing a 2 blade 17 x 8 to a 3 blade 18 x 8? Like I said I doubt it would do much with it, regardless of how much nitro it is fed. It will idle great though.

Saito 180 plain Jane. rebuilt, new BOCA bearings, new ring, new ICBM gaskets.
Fuel======Wildcat 10% with 18% full synthetic
Plug======Taipan 4c
Exhaust===Stock cast
Prop=MA 16 x 10 three blade, rpm==7,170
To be sure I was in the ball park,
APC 16 x 8 rpm===============8,970
Idle with both===============----1,670, the thing had penchant for 70's today.
This engine will definitely get a CH Ignition.

MA 16x10x3B @ 7170 is approx 2.435 hp. That's a lot of load, did it run hot?

ACP 16x8x2B @ 8970 is 2.725. Could be the ring needs a little more time. Domed tappet bottoms can rob power too. For reference my 180 turns this prop at 9400 (3.135 hp) on 15% nitro.

Thanks, it has new cam followers, it did not run hot, I'll run it today with a Turbo-Header just for kicks. I already mounted the CHI set at 30 before TDC, I can still stick a glow plug in it.

The brand new NAPA 450 cca battery kicked it over easily.

Dave, you may find its happier with ignition advanced closer to 34° btdc when running methanol. I would be interested to see how it does with 15% on glow ignition with your apc 16x8.

That 34 degree setting should work a bit better on methanol. Sr Tele had a lot of info on sparky 180 engines.I run mine on glow and have always been happy with the way they run on glow.
Hand starting is no problem, especially since taking up the back flip method several years ago.

I sure hope your starter never draws 450 amperes! Better be wearing an asbestos glove! Of course those cables to the battery would probably vaporize first
Really, the 3 amp/hour DeWalt LiOn only weighs a few ounces and it will easily spin the 180.

anyone buy from Active Powersports ???

their site says they have a new Saito 91 cylinder, but, of course they do not want you to call them, so again I can not find a phone number, and their site tells that they would have to give people a job to do that, and if they did that their prices would increase,,,, click my link to read that statement.

I don't know about your guys but I don't trust a store I can not call to find out if they have the part in stock. I have heard too many stories about people ordering things only to never get the part and then having to fight to get their money back.
