As for me it has been a long time since I have visited the thread myself. In honor of a fellow veteran and the father of the Waco thread a lot of people have to for guidance in the construction of there models. You'll always be remembered.

I still have all my T-shirts. Even run across a guy at a gas station not long ago that saw my shirt. He was a full scale pilot and we chatted a bit thanks to my WACO shirt..

I have all my T shirts as well. Yes, Bill did start a great thread, brought a lot of people together. I was friend with Bill in Facebook as well, There is one picture there of him being visited by a Navy Chaplain.

Howdy everyone, I recently got my hands on a PICA 1/5th Waco. I was looking for one and I didn't know it but I actually almost bought one from one of the Waco brothers CTflyboy (George). I eventually found one that popped up on eBay and as of now, I'm in process of getting all my materials in order and parts cut out. The one I got is the older blue plane version. I was hoping someone could e-mail me a copy of the updated manual. As many of you know the original manual is pretty vague, and I think the better manual will help me. I also am wanting to put a counterbalance on the rudder and I am wondering if there is a drawing, measurements, or something that can tell me the correct proportions of it. If anyone can help me let me know. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along but this thread has so much information and helpful people that I'm sure I won't have any issues.

Sure I would be honored to be part of the brotherhood. Thanks for the manual, that will definitely help a lot with some things. Hopefully, I can start putting things together soon. A busy schedule is keeping me from putting a lot of work into it at one time so for now, it's just a few hours here and there.

Hey Guys,

Well..... I finally pulled my old 33% Barth Waco off the shelf and started going through it. I want to fly it at a couple of events this summer. I need to specify the original manufacture's servo specifications for the LMA paperwork prior to LMA inspection. I bought this airplane completed (in the broadest sense of the term) and did not receive any manuals or plans

Was hoping someone in the brotherhood could share with me what Peter thought the airframe needed for servos. With the advancements in digital servo technologies since this kit was designed and distributed I'm guessing the torque ratings will be pretty low by today's giant scale standards.

Anyway THANK YOU in advance for your time posting those Barth specs!!!

Howdy, I thought I would show yall where im at. Like I said I haven't had much time to work on it but I'm enjoying the process so far. I put together the rear spar and I have everything cut out now. Boy theres alot of parts to this thing 😲. I've also put a considerable amount of time into planning. I think I have a pretty good idea of how it will go together by now.

Yep. That's typical Pica. Take a box of bits and in the end, have a flying airplane. Definitely not for ARF lovers.

Good luck with the build. I sold my 1/5 to a friend I taught to fly, but have another kit buried away for retirement. That one has an aftermarket cowl and will be fitted for floats from the start.

3rd hand localish Craigslist find from fellow modeler.

Mid 80's build. Will need some updating and finishing, but a solid foundation to work off of. Looks like original builder made it this far and decided to go flying.

Original box, plans, decals etc. Covered in fabric with pinked seams.

Thinking DLE 30, individual aileron servos, fiberglass cowl and pants, built up wing to fuselage fairings and a paint job.

Will be digging around for ideas and advice.

Just felt like sharing.

Yes, looks like a great start. I built mine in the late 70's if I remember, Took over 20 years to cover and finish.

I gave this away believe it or not. Wish I had not.

Curious of opinions on this combo.

I just happened upon an FG-21for a good deal.
Hoping the model will come in at 14# & change.
16x8 prop.
Would most likely have to cut the rails off, rework the firewall and use the supplied radial mount.

Thoughts?

That FG21 should be close to the equivalent of a Saito 125a, the engine I had mounted into my 13 lb Pica 1/5 scale. so should have more than enough power. I flew almost exclusively at approx half throttle to more express scale appearance, (no simulated mach lines).
I also lucked out as the rocker covers aligned with the bumps in the cowl so no cutout required.

As for mounting, how were you planning to orient the engine? Personally I try to go no further than side mounting to avoid the problems associated with inverted. In fact, dealing with that now since the Saito 100 in the P-47 has to mount that way if want no holes in the cowl. At this point deciding which onboard glow unit to install.

Cutting the rails flush allows a wider mounting choice since it does not lock you down to a particular installation..
