I had a pretty significant radio glitch the lat time I flew my Nieuport 17. I'm using the current hiatus on flying field access to do some maintenance and upgrades. The extension between the radio and the upper wing, while not the source of the problem, was looking a little ratty. I replaced it with a heavier gauge extension and was thinking that the receptacle might be a convenient way to secure one end of the extension. I think the actual problem was the leads on the home made battery pack. My soldering skills are pretty good but the pack had come loose and shifted in the airplane. I've changed the fuel lines and battery on a regular basis but I'm going over to a LiFe battery and 2.4 receiver. It was my last airplane on 72 MHz. I'm also changing out the fuel tank for a Nalgene bottle tank. Maybe it will be good for another 14 years.

Just a follow up to the note about Milehigh RC. I can not say enough good things about that place. I put in 4 orders at different places and the order at Milehigh was put in a day later than the others. The Milehigh order arrived DAYS ahead of the other orders. I have taked to them on line and by phone and always get a fast answer. Head there for a look if you have a chance.

Ok silly question, where is the location on a real sopwith pup to fill the fuel tank?
I am buttoning up all the wires and switches and such and fuel filler is one of them.

Thanks Jeff that helps , I know where to put the cap now but it will not be functional lol that area on my bird is not easily accessed now. It was a royal pain getting that 32oz tank in there last night! My hands are stinging from it lol.

I have been plugging away at this monster and get closer to a maiden flight every day. I think I have all the radio and electronics installed.
this was a ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT! Note to self; don't ever build something like this again without all the electronics and power unit planned for the project on hand!
anyways I may take it out and fire up the engine this weekend as it is pretty danged close to a maiden flight.

Happy Easter folks! I just finished hiding easter eggs for my kids , yup I have a 7year old and 10 year old. Hopefully I can turn at least 1 of them into the next generation AMA member.😇

Been busy all week, but finally got a chance to work on the big buzzard ! Took it out today and fired it up for the first time. It runs like a bear! WAY TOO MUCH POWER! Just the way I like it lol.

Thanks, I did stake it ! When I first fired that engine up and gave it some throttle It cranked up so much it almost flipped over sideways !
I could not believe that engine could have that much power being so physically small, WOW! I richened the top end up so it didn't crank that high again. One thing I found is the carb screws are not really accessible? I'm going to have to make some kind of special tool to get on them ! The muffler is right in the way.

Well WWI airplanes should have a slower engine, looks more scale that way. She sure is a beauty you did a fantastic job of building her. I ran into that same problem when I put a boxed firewall on a 1/5 scale SIG Cub to mount a Saito .80. I ended up making a pass thru for the needle valve and its still a nightmare to get in and out. I have one project, a 1/4 scale Globe Swift that needs a large engine and have purchased a new old stock Super Tigre 2300 for it. I will run it on 0% Nitro glow fuel which will help the price a little. Large 2 cycles do burn thru the fuel but it sholud haul the 20 lbs. airplane around.

Well I have been plugging away at it when possible. I have also been able to get some much needed stick time with my SkyRyder that I made from flying Models plans with top shelf Balsa USA materials. This plane was featured in the April 1988 edition and was built by Steve Buso.
I loved it so much that I built a second one that I am flying now. Its a dream to fly and wicked cool looking.
But this is about Busa models and mine is getting closer to a maiden flight for sure!

That Pup is looking really good. I do have a question though. Under the compass is a bubble style level indicator. Was that what the plane actually had or just what you had/found? I know, on more modern aircraft, the style used is inverted to your bubble and has a weighted ball that indicates a coordinated turn by keeping the ball centered. Not complaining or anything, just curious as I've never seen one of those on any aircraft and I've been around aviation for over 50 years
