sorry about the slow progress, too much work and stuff, heres some close ups of the nose leg, and i thought the mains were good! plus oil damped mains struts as promised by skymaster, i'll try to make more time in the next weeks and get it going, (with full progress reports and photos to you guys ok) good stuff and good service (just noticed i hit fast reply! photos in a minute)

Blackcat says he thinks we Americans are stuck back a few centuries, but I couldn't help noticing that his shop and driveway is full of our American fighters!
I know you are joking....I am too.

That's one sweet looking bird, congratulations and Merry Christmas. Now write another letter to Santa and see if he can hook you up with a Suburban or a trailer

Blackcat, that is certainly bad news. Get well soon. I had a work friend that had a simple fall from a 10step ladder 2 years back that resulted in a similar breakage. Take care!~).
Look forward to the F16 build when you get back to it!

thanks for the kind words guys, and don't forget i'm always only joking
ok heres some details of what i've found, and what i've done.
the jury strut on the mains legs dosen't lock, when the gear is down the retract lock holds the leg in place but there is a bit of movement in the main leg, this model will be flying off grass quite a bit but i think that even off tar, and given the f16's (in general) fairly poor ground handling it was a bit too lose. i fitted a robart 1" ram to push on this small knuckle, which pushes the double knee, and this really stiffens the leg. a smaller piston with 1/2" stroke would do (like the skymaster ones) the double knee can be pushed too far so i added the small al plate as a stopper. i'm using a sequencer at - door 1- doors, door 2- gear, gear- jury strut piston. all seems to work fine sitting in my lap, or when offered up in situ, nearly ready to go in for the last time. check the fotos and i'll take some more of the finished install, had to cut away a bit of fuse stringer, been replaced and i will go into further detail if you guys want

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Hello Blackcat,
when the airplane is moveing forward (even braking or hit some thing), the force act on the rear tire is always rearward and the force will stretch the knee automatically! When you retract main leg, the spring and aero-dynamic force will bend the knee. The more cylinders be used the more trouble you may get. The main gear of this bird is very (over) strong, the weakest point is not coming from the main gear itself, but the central ply-wood bon. All longitudinal landing impact load will be transfered to central bon and main former. My F-16 ran out the track then went into mud in its first time landing and the central bon broken immedialtily. I changed the broken cetral bon from ply-wood to 6MM solid FRP plate later. From that time, I suffered heavy landing several times, and the only damage was broken tail fin of under-side.
Don't forget change the old spring shock to oil-damper shock, big-help in the condition of bad landing.

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Blackcat I hope you're recovering from your mishap.
I Hope that's not Matrix gear or a splash of it because if it is, you're going to need something that will hold as they are very very weak, the play in that gear setup only gets worst. If you're planning on doing static only, you're A-OK but if you're flying it you are in trouble. I hope I'm wrong but I'm 90% sure that you'll need a reliable gear setup on that bad boy.
Just my $0.02
Good luck and keep up the good work.

thanks for the comments guys, the extra piston really does lock up the leg and make the whole gear very stiff, will get to it tomorrow or the next day and keep you all informed.
tonight i re-installed the nose door and gear for the last time (hopefully!) some quick explainations:- i upgraded to robart aluminium heavy duty hinges and on the nose these were attatched directly to the former, just fitted nicely like that and also upped the rams to robart 3/8, 1" for the nose, and 2 1/2" for the mains, i'm sure the supplied stuff from skymaster would be adequete but i've been known to overspeed gear and doors one more than one occasion, and these are big doors, nose 250mm x 85mm (10"x 3 1/2") and the mains 300mm x 150mm (12"x 6") it required the door fix position to move slightly but not a big deal. mains doors and gear tomorrow after broken bone clinic so stay tuned!
p.s. this is a great model!

i stiffened the nose with carbon cloth and rod, there will probably be around 1kg of batteries hanging off it, its supplied as a nice light ply set of parts but only butt joins to the front former, so i attacked it! i know i'm building in weight but i also know that i WILL land it like its fallen off a building sooner or later, soooooooo?

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
g'day guys, got the gear in and working now, progress has been hampered by pain and "do not operate machinery" pills!
some notes; one main door is smaller than the other, this is ok but the door does need to be pushed right out to clear the tire on retraction.
the main former to which the retract is secured was slightly misaligned and the tire fouled on the front former, had to router out the rear former a little (did all the setup with 1 leg and didn't see it until putting it all together)
the jury strut pistons tuck up nicely and work just as intended, you might notice a slight bend on the ball link rod to stop it from popping off
all in all i think its terrific landing gear, looks like a jungle in there when its folded up, seems to be very sturdy and has a real scale look about it. yippie!

more on the landing gear, seems with the jet-tronic gear sequencer no delay between doors is possible so i went to flight modes on the 10x, sequence is gear down- hits the jet-tron to do doors then gear and servo slow to jury strut pistons (about 10 sec @ 3* per sec) gear up - flight mode 1- jury strut straight away, servo slow to jet-tron @20*per sec (about 3 sec) -gear, then doors. all works well after maybe 15 cycles very happy! during these tests the small pin in the photo, a press fit, worked loose and fell out, just drilled and tapped a grub screw, if you've got one of these models i would check it, if the pin goes, the wheel rotates 90*
intairco also does these nice festo tank sets, clunk fits through the bulkhead fitting

Blackcat,
it looked so good I just had to have one, and now it's on my work bench!!
I see you have fitted the Intairco Festo tank fittings - did you try to install the tanks with the supplied
tank caps/brass tubes?

tor, i never tried the supplied tank fittings i think they are probably ok, but i use the festo in all other models with no leaks ever so i do the same for the f16. these photos show the (my) elevator setup, kit supplied the link pushes for up elevator, i made new aluminium torque arm, longer and to pull for up, 8711 jr servo (24?kg), with 90* bracket through the elevator shaft and onto torque arm, kit just clamps
8711 will just fit in the fin
some potential for heat from the pipe on the airlines to retracts so a 6mm balsa sheild
its a good kit i think, i do overbuild sometimes i suppose, but its my party and i'll fly when i want to?
more reports as i become more moblie! hope to fly in 2-3 weeks, either jetcat or booster 160

Your brother is one lucky guy!!!! or unlucky if you think about it ! After all not many people get attack by does big Fish. By the way its done ! i ordered mine !!! cant wait to see it here... Its all thanx to you Blackcat with all the good things you mentionned about this kit.
