RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Nice F16...
Many years ago I was swimming about 40 feet off shore in the Persian gulf and I saw something big that swam by me. it was at least a 12 foot SHARK...Not sure of its type, but I basically walked on water running (swimming) away from it. When I reached the beach, I looked back and I thought I was dreaming, sure enough I saw its dorsal fin going away just like in the movies[X(]....Thank God your brother is ok!!!

This is one big plane,
I was over at blackcats place the other night to rub his belly for some good luck!! He is doing an incredible building job considering he's not that mobile at the moment. Two Dogs, he is using a protective film over the paint while he works on it.

Blackcat -
could you please post a few more pictures of your elevator setup - close-ups of the servos, links and your homemade link would be great!
Did you use the rubber and brass grommets when securing the servos - it looks like you may have chosen another method?
Are your tanks a very tight fit? Mine seem to just squeeze in, and it looks like I may have to sand a little off the lip on the hatch and
fuse to fit the top tank..

g'day tor, just been watching the cricket,
elevator fotos- i made a new bracket to turn the action of elevator push rod to pull up, and also made the link attatchment point double the length out from pivot rod, this increases torque and resolution of servo, i put link about 12mm from servo hub centre and use 135% servo travel, the rest is for trim movment. i have 60mm up at trailing edge, and 35mm down- i don't think it needs as much down as up so i use the servo power (movement) where its most needed. the aluminium bracket is approx 90mm overall, shaft to link 50mm. s/m setup is 27mm. also have to router out servo mount to raise servo. i fix it with 4/40 wood screws, tap through, remove soak with thin zap, (is there any other glue?) and refit with rubber, no brass eye, and aluminium squash plate.
shaft has extra 90* bracket- dry fit outside, fit s/m squash plate, and drill and tap a 4/40 screw straight through shaft and all, and into new bracket (90*angle has clearance holes)
just a bit of extra security for me.
maybe i should bat for the poms, poor old kp- genuine lion heart and he copped a broken rib tonight!
organ doners safely out of hop-alongs' reach for the moment!

couple more fotos. made large aluminium load spreading washers, fuse fit is almost perfect, no complaints, its coming along now.
changed the engine mounts too, s/ms' were just light ply wood screwed to end grain of former, i just made some brackets and used a real stiff carbon laminate ply as rails
i love my f16 and she loves me (i hpoe!)
we just stare into each others eyes like lovers do

Hey Sparksey,
Nice job mate....not bad for a cripple!!
Looks like you are running your elevator servo cables inside fiberglass sheath...is that right?
I like your elevator mod... probably will do same on mine....keep up the good work mate....and just remember, you can't possibly be in as much pain as the poor old pommie cricketers at the moment
btw....a little joke for you...
Q. Who spends the most time on the crease of anyone in the English
team?
A. The person who ironed the cricket whites.
one more.....
Q. What is the height of optimism?
A. An English batsman applying sunscreen.
Hope you are feeling better soon and that your brother has washed his wetsuit!

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Does anyone know if the F-16 is available in the US?
I checked with Eric at Airpak models and he doesn't have any. With all the recent bad press here in the US about Skymaster, I guess he's the only game in town as far as US distribution.
It seems they're available every where else, except in the US.

Really smart mod you did to those elevator linkage ! I will proably do the same... Do you think you could get us a few shot of the aileron and there linkage configuration ! I feel bad asking you for pictures all the time , but I just can't wait to get one ! Was the protective film supplied with the jet ? cuz thats a really neat trick not to mess it up with all kinds of glue as your building it !
Thank you

Hi Blackcat,
I was wondering if you’ve given any thought to reinforcing some of the load bearing formers, since you are going to be flying off grass or do you think they're strong enough. The concern I have is most ARF’s are built light and the plywood they use is usually 3 ply plywood instead of 5 ply plywood.
The rear l/g former is going to take a beating on grass fields and I was thinking of making an 1/8â€, 5 ply former and sandwiching a piece of c/f cloth between it and the original former, then using some c/f tape as a gusset between the former and the fuse. For the front l/g former, I’m thinking that c/f tape gusset reinforcement would be enough. Also, I was wondering if it would be worth replacing the carry through beam with a ply/ c/f laminate, the same as the previous poster did using f/g.
The nose gear formers will also take a beating on grass and it may be wise to reinforce the wood joints with 1/8†ply gussets and the formers with the C/F tape.
I was also concerned about the ventral fins being butt glued to the bottom of the fuse and I was thinking making them removable. I would remake them with two, 1†tongues that fit into slots in the fuse and are bolted to ply rails inside the fuse. That way you don't have to worry about knocking them off untill you get the landings down pat. When confident of the landing technique, you can put the ventral fins on without fear of damage.
If you haven't checked out this video, fast forward to the end, he really nailed the landing.

Thanks for taking the time to post the build a long and hope you get it in the air soon.

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
finally got to log on again, cookies seem to hate me, i went to 'edit profile' from guest login and woosh- welcome back blackcat, computors? oh no....... england just won the cricket
to the f 16, its all but finished but no engine yet, i went back to the bone doctor 2 weeks ago and he told me (after 6 weeks in plaster) another 6 weeks! i felt like crying, thanks to smoking cigarettes, if you smoke, wake up and spend your money on a new engine instead of poison.
surprisingly easy with nico patches, try it
some more fotos- assembled the model in the sun here, about 35* c 90* f and the elevators puffed up, punched a hole to let the hot air out the root rib and shape came back, so i ground out the rib and used light filler and resin to glue in shaped balsa blocks, not very heavy and more likley to handle an australian summer
installed duralite batteries, the toggles check bat 1, 2 , and turbine battery from before power box reg switch, the bright light is a 6 volt, 10 watt bulb from an emergency light held in a small ply frame, this gives approx 1.6 amp load for batt test.
all chargeing and filling from engine hatch area, i also replaced the spar joiner and shaped it into a handle
dragon models 1/6 f15 pilot says wow the f 16 is a much better looking airplane, isn't it? $24.95 from www.war-toys
hope to fly it soon, but i might have to rob a bank!
i'll try the fotos separately, they didn't load

Hello BlackCat - welcome back!
I see you have moved the main tank forward 2 or 3 inches - is that going to be OK with the CG?
Are you using the ailerons as ailerons or only as flaps? Did you check the live hinges for any cracks -
we've had some cracks in 2 planes here in Norway.
I have installed all the servos and the retracts in my plane, but am still waiting for the electronic
valves and the Merlin turbine before I can complete it. It's a great plane!

Hi Jeff,
with all that laying around time on your hands, that 16 should be done by now - don't worry about robbing a bank for an engine.
two scenarios here, I 've got your P70 in my Wild Hornet, how about you put my P160 in your 16?
Sounds like a good deal huh???
Also just been awarded the Graupner dealership for the G-Booster engines, so that should all be finalised within a week or two. Hope its sooner than later, cause as of last wednesday, my compulsory retrenchment occurred from QANTAS - not happy Jan.........................................
Might be a model sell off coming if no jobs around.
Now, get off your a--se, onto those crutches, and get over here somehow to get this P160

Hi BlackCat!
Did you use the original cylinders for the gear doors, or did you change them?
Could you please post some close-up pictures of the cylinders and the small formers that go on the doors?
Great with the P160 - when will you be ready for a maiden??

I'll be there with my video camera, and i'll probally be holding his crutchers as well [&:] I was over at blackcats place the other day. The handle spar really makes a difference when moving this beast around
