UPDATE: Carried to the club. Found that the exhaust valve was sticking open. Was not coming all the way to the top. Poured some mystery oil on the rocker arm and down the valve spring and stem....

Before I did the checking, I removed the engine from the plane. I visually checked the throttle opening as I flipped the prop. I tried in both open and closed positions and there was no difference....

UPDATE:

I removed the valve covers and both valves are operating. However, the exhaust valve is about .030. Gap way too much. I, also, removed the glow plug and poured some oil in the cylinder...

I set the engine from the drive washer to the firewall just as the instructions said. I had to shim it out 1/2" in order to make it work. It is a J-3 GP and the engine
is a Saito 56....

I have a problem. My cowling is 1/4" too long on my just completed GP J-3 Cub. To alter the cowling would be horrific.

Does anyone make a spacer to move the prop out 1/4"? Aluminum or plastic?
