I am also thinking very hard about using the Pica Cowl, configured for a YMF as a plug for a fiberglass mold in order to put a decent cowl on this, but I've never tried doing any fiberglass work like...

I suspect it would not be different than the earlier WACO cabins. Pinked tape around the entire perimeter of the rudder and elevators, not just the trailing edge. Ditto for the fin and horiz stabs.

Stits and paint will add weight. My 1/5 scale Cabin WACO (an old school design built like a tank) finished in Stits weighs 16 lbs even and flies scale-like on an OS 1.60 twin with a bit of power to...

I've used the Stits/PolyTone process on 5 or 6 planes. Straightforward and very forgiving but somewhat time consuming due to the number of paint layers (poly brush, poly spray, color, clear). I...

For the GP WACO you don't need a Keleo muffler. Two lengths of slip-fit K&S brass tubing. Heat them cherry red and let them cool, then bend to shape. A simple strap made of brass and screwed to...

The EVO 735 weighs in at 3.1 lbs and will likely make you nose heavy. I flew mine with an OS 1.60 Gemini Twin which weighed 11.5 ounces less and swung an equivalent sized prop and had a higher RPM...

I don't have any experience with the Cline regulator but I'm surprised to hear you need one with your OS Gemini 1.60. I have several OS and Magnum 1.60s and have never needed a regulator. They run...

WACO1, I don't think the squeegee will work (but it would be real nice if it did). Any of the epoxy and fillers I've worked with I think would want to adhere to the squeegee and drag along with it,...

WACO1,

I did exactly that. My aileron corrugations were made using an aluminum plate with triangular grooves cut into it. Epoxy and light fiberglass are laid into it and a press plate applied to...

RE: WACO YMF

Anthony,

I too got to meet Andy a couple of years ago at a WACO fly-in at Troy. In fact, I'm pretty sure I remember your WACO (pre-crash) being there (beautiful plane). Andy was a great help...

RE: WACO YMF

OK, I hope its OK to piggy back on this thread here since I'm a member of the Brotherhood (#174) and its a WACO, even though it is a cabin model. Its my 99%-complete 1/4 scale YKC-S scratch built...

RE: WACO YMF

Joe,

My 1/5 scale and 1/4 scale cabin WACOs are done that way. Drilled a hole in the brass control arm, slipped it on the wire, and slid a wheel collar (with the chrome plating wire-brushed...

RE: WACO YMF

I mounted an OS 1.60 twin in mine. Fits perfectly, is a very good match power-wise, and sounds great too. There's about 1/2" clearance between the cylinder heads and the side of the cowl. I only...

RE: WACO YMF

Jaybird,

Just a note. The GP manual has you "Y" together the top wing ailerons and "Y" together the bottom wing ailerons. If you do so, you lose the ability to use your radio's aileron...

RE: WACO YMF

Stickbuilder,

Just a clarification. Although the engine is not offset, most WACOs have the vertical fin offset to compensate for the engine torque. I don't know for sure about the YMF but the...

RE: WACO YMF

You can remedy the assembly time of the GP WACO by soldering the nuts to the brackets for the cabane and interplane struts. There's a thread on the GP WACO under the ARF/RTF forum that explains how...

RE: [Awaiting Approval]

Time for me to join the Brotherhood as well. 1/5 scale ykc-s under my belt and a 1/4 scale in process.

Thanks, Tony
