Retrofit an airbrake? I fly the smaller Bobcat 50 which have no flaps with a Wren 44 turbine & landing was tricky, you had to fly very shallow
approaches at low altitude to meet the end of the strip...

Not an X-45 but a friend flew one with a Wren 44 Gold turbine.

Not a wonderful result, the Falcon 120 is a big, draggy aircraft & it had to fly at high throttle
settings to make headway & was a...

Prop availability is wider than you think, direction can be reversed remember. ;)

Any three blade prop is on the shopping list, just remember to put the 'curvy side' to the front!

it's not just nylon bolts. I have had 1/4 inch steel roofing bolts (from the land of high quality) have the heads come off
while tightening them up at work at surprisingly low torque.

Bought...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

I recently had my first in-flight servo failure on a medium size electric.

One aileron servo went to about 1/2 travel & stayed there solid whenever power was on, power off & you could move the...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

If you keep the booms & tailplane/elevator together (On the Tornado they recommend glueing it all together)
as one piece it will mean just two plugs versus one if you put another reciever in the...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Here we go! The old 'would you risk flying your jet without a XXX fitted' line.

The suppliers roll this one out every time they come out with some 'saves your plane' gismo & make you think you...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Like this one made from 4 pieces of aluminium angle?

It's fitted to a smaller Bobcat 50 with a Wren 44. - John.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Yep, that's the Kavan electric brake. I have one fitted to my jet. They are still available from Bruce Tharpe, I bought the Reaction 54 wheel & brake package for my scratch built jet.

Thanks Woketman, it was fun to do in a different colour scheme.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Like this?

I had to repair my smaller Bobcat which involved recovering the wings & filling in the holes in the tailplane.

I recovered the wings in Sig Koverall, the booms/tail in brown...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Hi Tim, can you post a link to the vid of your Falcon.  Also, do you have details of the LED so I can chase some up down here? - thanks, John.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

I went to Wang & I remember just one Bobcat 120 crashing, a red & white one (custom painted) with a great finish.

The word was one flap retracted during landing & he was not high enough to take...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Thanks for that resjets, I have fiddled with similar ideas myself. Have you considered some of the whitworth screws (1/8?)

The threads are coarser which will speed the operation up a bit & may...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Yes, you do have to bend the legs back, but only if you make a complete c__k-up of the landings which would at least bend a strut. Normally I check them after a flight anyway, 99% of the time they...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

With all this cutting, filing, fiddling has anyone considered just simple wire legs with a coil in the top like has been used for 50 years?

After all, these are supposed to be cheap, simple, fly...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

No, but tried an airbrake on the bottom of the smaller Bobcat 50 (no flaps).

Makes the speed on approach much easier to control, introduces a small amount of pitch up.
Full deflection is...

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet

Yes, it did require 'extra support internally', a scrap of ply for the two self tapping screws.

As akepp said all the stress of a hard landing tries to push the angle up, not down, so the...
