RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I run the MA 12x8x3 prop on two of my 82a's. I find it to be a good warbird prop.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Oh boy! I've started a membership drive.

For an update, (2) 30's, a 62, a 72, (3) 82a's and a 100.

All putt-putt nicely at idle, purr in the midrange and punch out power at full...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Hobbsy,

Can you re-post your photo of the slave control arm on the motor mount for throttle control you posted a year or two back? I can't find the post, and need ideas to assist me in...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Now's the time to buy a FA-82a! I went to checkoutjust didn't hit the "buy" buttonand the price is $229.99. I suppose this model is being closed out to make room for a newer version.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The World Models 1/6 Clipped Wing Cub 48 might be a candidate, although some 3D maneuvers (hovering) might require at least a 72. I had this plane powered with a 62 and it is a great flier, being...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Jeffie,

I'll lease you another 30 if that's what it takes. I figure it's only a matter of time until the majority of your engines are Saitos.

Sounds like you paid twice for your buddy's...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I run a 12x8 3-blade on one of my 82's and I'd say it's the perfect 3-blade prop for that engine/ plane combination. I initially chose that prop to give more ground clearance on my H-9 T-34 mentor...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

If your radial puts out comparable power to the 30, you're in business, unless it weighs a ton. Mine balanced perfectly with a 4.8 battery strapped to the rear of the battery compartment. Be sure to...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The plane is Great Planes' 1/12th scale combat P-47. The arf is designed for electric (no way) or 25 2- stroke glow and was an enjoyable and easy job to assemble.

While not overpowered, the Saito...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

According to experts, at least a 1 to 3 ratio of inflow to outflow for cooling is best. The most important is amount of open area for outflow unless a means of ducting or routing of airflow is built...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I think a 13x6 would be better for the 80.

Don't bother cutting holes in the cowl for the carb. If you have intake for cooling, the engine should breathe.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It was reported in this thread about 3 years ago that filling the fuel tank "to the brim" is a possible cause of a Saito engine backfire. I experienced one such incident with an inverted 82. I now...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Here's my recently finished GP 1/12 P-47 powered with a Saito 30. It flies well with a MA 10x6, but I'm considering a 4-blade prop.

Can anyone suggest an ideal 4-blade for this application?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I always use an electric starter on this 82, as I do on most other engines. All 4 strokes are inverted. My 62 only needs a good hard look or a slight breeze turning the prop to start. This 82 is a...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

My 82 had a tendency to run backwards on starting. I read on here that it was often caused by the tank being filled to the top. Since I've yet to run a tank dry with a 4-stroke, I always back an...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'm in the process of assembling the GP 25 size P-47 and plan to install one of my 30's. Anyone else doing something similar?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

A stack is not necessary, but will reduce the amount of fuel inside the cowl. It won't help or hinder performance based upon my limited experience.

Cooling requires 2 and possibly 3 times exit...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Many thanks Hobbsye, Ed and W8ye. I considered Graupner, but hadn't even thought of Zinger. I'll be checkin' it out!

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Three of my planes have 3-blades and I haven't seen the drastic drop in performance everyone I talked to warned me of. I've considered an 11x7-3 or maybe will think on the 11x8-3 you suggest, but...
