RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I posted a bunch of props I tested on my .40a one page back. I don't know what you concider large, but I'll probably fly the Beaver I'm building for this engine with a MA-S2 12x6 prop. It turns over...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Well, for anyone that's interrested, I tested a bunch of props on my .40a today. I wanted to test some of the MA S2 props (formerly scimitar) since they seem to perform well. I haven't run this...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I looked at his site and didn't see any Saito links, or any links for that matter. Maybe I was in the wrong place? Got a link?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Does anyone know where to find a torque/HP chart or graph for Saito engines? I'm thinking it might help in finding usable props. I've noticed a big difference in the way people prop their engines. I...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Flycatch, I don't know what's going on with your 220, but I did notice in an earlier post you stated that it would only go to 1/2 throttle then throw the prop. What did you do to fix it? I've noticed...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Wow...has it been 4 years? Just looking up some of my old posts and I found the break in post for my 40a. Time flies when you're getting divorced...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I've been away for a while, but it's good to see some of the same people are still here and active. I haven't flown in a couple of years, but I think I'm going to start working on my Beaver...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I have a MA Classic 18x6 on mine, and it turns 9000 rpm on the ground. The MA 16x8 is probably not quite enough prop for the 180, but another brand of 16x8 may work ok. I seem to remember getting...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'm a big fan of the Cline regulator, too. I've seen my 1.80 idle in the 1200's and watched it idle for over a minute at 1350 rpms with the Cline. It idles smooth at 1600. and at 1800 on the test...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

A 12x4 or 11x6 will also work well on that .45

To Balsa with the 1.80 Do yourself a favor, and adjust the LS needle. The engine will be much happier. I needed to turn mine in 3+ turns. I would...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Looks awsome, and seems to fly at least scale from the video. Doesn't look like power is a problem. I say go for it, and post pictures/vids!

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I would say you're pushing it at 9800. For 3D it's probably ok, but I wouldn't want to let it go any higher when it unloads, you don't want to let it spin much over 10 grand. I would try the 17x4, it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Most Saito's hand start pretty easy. I think the key is in the prime. They need to be good and wet, then backflip (clockwise) against compression. They'll kick and start counter clockwise. Though I...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Looks like you get to disassemble your 2.70 and put new bearings in. Lucky you! I love tinkering with these things, even if I do make things difficult once in a while.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Now you tell me. I usually do stuff like this on a CLEAN bench with a large towel underneath the piece just in case I drop a small part. I guess this is what you get for being sloppy.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I tried that. I think it may have bounced under the bench...and my work area is a mess right now. All I found were metal filings.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Here's a shot of the repair. You can see the original crack in my post on page 436 of this thread. I ground out a "V" along the crack, and used a mapp gass torch to heat it up. Tinned and filled it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

A Saito 1.80 is way too big for a 6 lb Yak. I have one turning a MA 18x6 Classic at 8800 rpm on a 15lb plane. I would think a Saito 1.00 would be plenty to hover that plane at about 1/2 throttle.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Ha ha ha. Seriously, it will turn a 24x10 at 12,000 rpm if you can figure out how to run the prop in a vaccuum. Here at 800 ft ASL I get around that with a 13x8 or 14x6.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I use onboard glow with my Super Stearman ans Saito 1.80. I think it's the same company and it works great. What's your problem?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
