RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

If that's your first try... you've been missing your calling in life! Looks great... good luck with it.

Or thumbs!

My table saw always scares me to death... but so far, no missing digits. I guess fear is a good thing.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Yep, I got the Davis Diesel model also... but not the jumbo, it wasn't available.

W8YE... any feeling in those fingertips yet? I had a similar incident with an old Cox .049 back in the early...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

These 4 strokes have a bad tendency to kick backwards, even start backwards. The kick backs could easily break a finger. I learned the hard way too on my 450.... now I only start it with a chicken...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Ditto on the single pitch props... I've never used anything else.

there is a high and low needle valve setting on the 4-strokes... I think the 2-strokes only have a single needle valve.

The...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It's not unusual to see very little RPM change from half to full throttle on these 4-strokes. The throttle arm opens up airflow through the carb, and above about half or 3/4 throttle, you won't see...

That sounds great! Glad you found a bargain. There are always lots of deals down there. I just have a basement full of stuff that I don't get to fly often enough.... and a new ziroli kit, still in...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Not to take the thread on another left turn, but......

How does everyone feel about running the engine dry at the end of the day? I know the glow fuel can attack engine parts if left sitting,...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Has anyone tried the FG-14 yet?

I'm planning a twin-engine Baron, and looking for something in the .46 glow size, but would like to use gas, for obvious reasons. The FG-14 would be a little...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I didn't know that cold temps would have that much of an effect. I guess with colder, dense and dry air, you need more fuel to keep the mixture right.

Another good reason to live in the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

OUCH!

I had a friend at our field on Sunday that had a similar incident with his DA-100. He's one of the most thorough, conservative pilots you'll find anywhere. He was going vertical for a...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Yep.. that second-hand thing is part of the problem here. It sat untouched so long that there are several wrinkles in the covering that just won't iron out. I've ironed them down, it looks great...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

If I find the courage to start taping it off, the original plan was to do the trim in a deep red color... scalloped lines on the upper and lower leading edges, a stripe going back on the top of the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I took my Waco with the Saito 450 to the field today for the first "real" flights (I had one really short about a month ago in the rain). All I can say is WOW,... What a motor!

The plane...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

There's a guy at our field with a Christen Eagle and an OS 300 twin on it... it's a very fast plane. If I remember, he has to land it a little fast. I don't know if that's the case with all Eagles,...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I used to have a Saito 180 a few years ago on a Lanier bipe.. about a 5 foot wingspan and 13 pounds. The 180 pulled it around like a foamy. You should like the Christen Eagle with that motor.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

my first thought would be a hotter plug, like an OS-F... but you may have already tried that.

That could explain how it would run nicely at idle with the cylinder pointing up, but drown out...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I would try a hotter plug, like an OS "F" before I started tearing into things again. My 450 was running very sluggish at high end, and a set of OS plugs made a tremendous difference.
