RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

That works! Or you can follow some engineering first principles and save all that time and money.

My hot rodded 45 was a lot of fun using some stock Saito parts and some well thought out, yet...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Try radiusing (bell-mouth) the inlet, I did the same thing you did on a 45 with a 65 cam. I had milled the case mill 0.55mm to up the CR and lightened the piston. The radiused carb inlet helped a...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

OF, As you can see the mods have heavily edited my response, all humor has been lost and much of my supporting arguments.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'm glad to see Saito use real chrome in their cylinder bores.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I like the aluminum seats and the chrome plated liners, sounds like a positive critique of the Saito.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Maybe so, But since there was no Emoticons I can only assume he was serious. That statement could have been rather misleading. Now I did play along asking for what effect toe out produced? I...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Please lets not be ridiculous, that refers to wheels not carbs. Saito did not aim the carbs at each other to improve the ground handling of the engine.

Please lets keep this thread on topic.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I have taken that journey of discovery myself many time. All one needs to do is look at how many engine I have "improved to the point they don't run". I have even come out on top at least once.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

You mean the single crank throw verses the dual crank throw. My concern is Saito's use of facing carbs and the need for that baffle. Would placing the carbs as shown in the 300 result is a...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Yes Saito made a single carbed and single glow plugged (per cylinder) 300s. So?
Anytime you have the inlets to any system pointed as close to each other as the 1.30's you will get a loss of intake...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

That is why I used Independent Runners (IR) systems in my full size race engines, be them carbed or fuel injected. The issue is properly designed. I see a few design constraint (problems) with the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Act like?
Just be aware of where he (any author) is coming from. In the article he is selling the engine. There is nothing wrong with that. It is just not an unbiased position.
Just like my...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Mr. Lee is not worthy of what? He is one of the great engine designer from the great age of model engines!

Now the hobby catalog known as R/C Modeler, well......

Now if you read his engine...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

That is a great start. I'll have to give a close read. But as you know I think that what is printed in the dead tree press often is biased towards the advertiser. Anybody have detailed...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I don't think they do.

But as I read the sticky that is what was said. That the Saito engines with AAC liners have chrome valve seats.

Hobbsy and I had a good conversation about this...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

BW,
The subject is Saito engines! Not what engines I think are the most suitable for (X). But as a sport four cycle engine the Saito is more than "adequate" (a poor take off from a Rolls Royce...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I know "picts or it didn't happen" is the mental mantra of the web!
But I'll have to agree it is very difficult to photograph a dream that has come true.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

What I'd like to learn is how does the power curve look for the 1.30 twin? How much flow interference is there with the dual carbs facing each other? How effective is the carb baffle. Are there any...
