RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

All the ST90s in our club have responded *very* well to fuel consisting of 5% nitro, 12% Coopers Plus-C oil and 83% methanol.

This seems to really improve the otherwise rich mid-range and...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Something that interests me about (the latest) ST engines.

Why do they have such a *massive* amount of cooling area on the head?

Older STs and virtually all other model glow engines have...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

When will ST fess up and admit that the carby on the G90 is just plain *BAD*.

Oh no, that's right -- I forgot, it's all the fault of that huge number of users who can't tune it properly. Yeah,...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Why am I not surprised -- nothing's changed at RCU I see.

If anyone wants to see my setups, PM me and I'll tell you where to see the pictures I was referring to.

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

If I had image upload privileges I'd post some pictures of my mousse can and carb setups -- but unfortunately, since I let it be known that I . . . .

I'll take some pictures so you can see my...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

This proves my point and verifies my claims that the ST90 is intrinsically a very marginal design in respect to the match between its carburetor's ability to meter fuel adequately and its shallow...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

We're talking about stock-standard G90s with the factory muffler and carby here.

All sorts of things have been tried -- pushing the muffler further onto the stack, pulling it further off,...

Okay Ed, here's the scenario I see with all the ST90s (using stock carbs) in our club...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

I agree with you Ed, ST engines are not the best for 3D -- but I disagree that the need for good mid-range operation and crisp transition is something peculiar to 3D.

I've flown warbirds with...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Dar Zeelon says that the ST 46ABC has more power than the ST51 and, having seen an ST51 in action, I think I could believe that.

The ST51 is fine motor but no power-house. It might be better at...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

The baffle in your muffler is working loose -- it happens quite often.

Remove the muffler from the engine and look down the tailpipe - you'll see a pop-rivet.

Drill that rivet out -- this...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

I don't buy ST engines smaller than 90 because other brands (such as the TT46Pro) simply offer much more bang and less fuss for your buck.

A TT46Pro is ready to run, straight out of the box --...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

These ceramic coatings are just good old hard-anodizing -- something that can be done with relatively simple equipment.

We hard-anodize the aluminum face-plates of our large UAV pulsejet engines...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

The *real* problem is that some people (including ST themselves) refuse to acknowledge that anything is wrong with the ST carby. They say it's all the fault of the user.

Yet it's funny how...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Another club member lost another plane to an ST90's lousy mid-range today. His Extra 300 didn't quite make it back to the strip after the engine died in transition.

He had tried all the...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

I've got to say that if you use a *good* oil (with at least some castor in it), ARO is really not necessary in a 2-stroke engine.

I've *never* lost bearings in any 2-stroke due to rust or...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

If you're removing the crankshaft in order to replace the bearings then you can tap the crankshaft out by placing the back of the engine (where the backplate goes) on a piece of wood, placing a piece...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

I do!

Alongside my SuperTigre engines are a number of other brands.

I believe in "horses for courses". I use Saito and TT engines on my 3D planes -- because they have superb throttle...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

For a start, there are *plenty* of engines out there that are wickedly good for 3D -- offering gobs of power and lightning fast transition.

The OS46, OS50, OS55, TT46Pro and any number of other...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Klotz used to have a chart on their website where they compared the various attributes of the oils they sold.

Techniplate was rated (by Klotz themselves) rather low at 6 or 7 out of 10 if I...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Hey, I've got several ST engines and I love the fact that I get so much engine for such little dollar -- but it frustrates the hell out of me that they could be a *fantastic* engine if only the carbs...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Our tiny engines have a plain bushed conrod -- most gas engines have needle-roller bearings on the conrod's big-end.

Roller and ball-bearings need only a tiny amount of oil to function --...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

I've tried a less-restrictive muffler (in the form of a mousse-can pipe) and, while it improves the throttling and power somewhat, the carby still provides very poor midrange mixture-control,...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

This is what I mean about the ST engines... one person suggests and OS-F, others say "no, don't use an OS-F"

The truth is that there is a *major* problem with the ST carbies that requires people...

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***

Yeah, but all my other engines are happy to run on 5% nitro -- and the ST manual says it's okay to use any fuel from 0%-15% so you would expect the engine to run satisfactorily on 5%, I mean, they...
