RE: WACO YMF

I'll let the experts weigh in because I'm not familiar with that particular O.S. engine, but I would think it might be marginal.

RE: WACO YMF

Ha! That's perfect, Ken! Unfortunately, I did carry the thumb, with the table saw blade that is. It doesn't show in the picture, but the thumb was a lot more of a pain than the finger because they...

RE: WACO YMF

See photo below. I was just trying to divide fractions.:D

And don't complain about the cold, either! Its -14F (no wind chill) here right now. Once the wind picks up today, the wind chill is...

RE: WACO YMF

airplanegeek-

Sounds like an interesting idea, but I would be VERY concerned that anything you could "pop" on and off during assembly would "pop off" during flight. Maybe I'm not understanding...

RE: WACO YMF

Bill-

Of course I'll take your advice. In my case, I'll probably do three tests. The engine is an FA-91S that originally came with the new style (ugly) muffler. I swapped mufflers with an...

RE: WACO YMF

Chris-

Sorry for the late reply. If you want to see what the Saito .91 looks like in the 1/6 scale cowl, take a look at mine in post #4640 on page 186. A pretty good fit with just the rocker...

RE: WACO YMF

Well, I think I may have found my solution for the exhaust extension. I picked up a Macs aluminum extension that just clamps on with a hose clamp. 8 bucks. There were 3 sizes; I went with the...

RE: WACO YMF

Jim-

I'll let you know what I end up doing and how it works. I really only need about another 1/2 to 3/4 inch. As I recall, my friend was having problems at the cylinder end of the header...

RE: WACO YMF

Jim-

Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding your problems with an OS .91, when you say "tearing itself off the engine" do you mean that it was coming off where the header pipe meets the...

RE: WACO YMF

That's a good idea. Looks nice and clean on yours. You're still not telling me how you did the exhaust.;) Was yours the one I saw about 20 pages ago with the custom fabricated exhaust? I think...

RE: WACO YMF

John-

Thanks for the lightning fast response. I'm pleased to know that my planned exhaust location will look more or less scale. I was actually just doing it that way because it seemed like...

RE: WACO YMF

Making more progress, finally. I cut the cowl for the valve covers on the Saito. Came out OK for a hack like me. Pics are attached. I don't know how people did it before Dremels. Actually I do...

RE: WACO YMF

khodges-

I'm guessing it could use the nose weight. When I got it, it had a K&B .61 and about a pound of lead screwed to the engine mount. I don't think the Saito weighs that much more than...

RE: WACO YMF

Bill-

The phrase "P-17" was my typo. I meant "PT-17" as well. I just couldn't find any reference to a Top Flite version. I just did a search and found Dick's thread on RCU on the Cox 1/6. It...

RE: WACO YMF

Tony-

I agree. I had looked at that but it won't work. I think I may go with the Aerotech version that was mentioned on the same page. They are a local company and I know Wayne, the owner.

RE: WACO YMF

Thanks, John.

BTW, does anyone have any recommendations for a dummy radial to fit in the 1/6 cowl? Doesn't have to be too fancy.

RE: WACO YMF

OK, I think I get it now. The WIDE spacing between bumps is the rockers on one cylinder. I was confused and thought a set of closely spaced bumps was one cylinder.

Bill, I'm going to have to...

HA! I've accomplished next to nothing and they still let me be a member. :D Speaking of which. . .

As you probably don't recall, I'm reviving an old 1/6 scale Waco that I rescued from the...

RE: WACO YMF

Thx, Bill. I'll talk to him when I have a chance and see what he thinks. I have to decide on a color scheme first.

RE: WACO YMF

Bill-

I need them in the 1/6 size. I guess if I were going to have Dennis do a set, I would probably pick a scale version to have him do. Maybe a black with gold trim to go on my red covering....

RE: WACO YMF

Look's great, Jim. Where can I get these "kit decals"? The one I'm recovering is exactly the same color as yours. Mine is 1/6 instead of 1/5. Having a source of decals would greatly speed things...
