RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Agreed, most RC aircraft fly on the "prop" and not on the "wing" like most full scale aircraft. The only exceptions might be some of the newer aerobatic planes.

I find it interesting on the...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

When is this beast gonna fly again?

I think the point is with electric power, tractor or pusher props can be used on the rear as all that is needed is to change the rotation of the motor. This...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

While possible, I do not find it practical, or even comfortable for that matter.

It seems that from the point of takeoff, you have to already be thinking about landing. Certainly a scary...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

The thing I do not like about electrics are the batteries. Kahloq could not fly again last weekend because he could not charge another set of packs. Even so, it would take around an hour.
I...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

I think the key is to optimize the performance of both motors. It is not that the prop wash or aerodynamic effects will help your front motor, it is that the rear motor is performing optimally and...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

I agree with this completely. As it is nice to know at what speed it is going to stall, and which wing will drop, or just drop the nose.

With this maiden, I understand why everything was done...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Videos will be coming shortly. Needless to say, the hinges held up! lol The aircraft went home in the same number of pieces that it did, when it arrived at the field. Very impressive aircraft, and...

I know, he will be fine. Looks to be a very nice day, so possibly we will see today.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Pinned as in pinned into the trailing edge of the wing, and leading edge of the control surface with toothpicks so they do not pull out under flight loads? Or pinned as in they have a true hinge...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Frankly, I would be mainly concerned with all of those CA hinges. On a plane this large and heavy, I feel that is asking for trouble.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

You do not need a pusher if you reverse the rotation of the motor. Then, just make sure the prop is facing the right way.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Wash in! Crazy. If that is the case, maybe raising the ailerons a bit might be in order.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

I am of the opinion if you do not have enough power to fly with the gear down, you do not have enough power. There is a good likelihood that there may a trim change with the retraction of the gear. ...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Disc area is way more effective thrust than pitch. Think of a larger lower pitch as a low gear in your car. If thrust is a concern with a heavy plane, Going with more diameter might be a good move. ...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

But please do not "jump it into the air" as this would be a good way to help it meet it's demise. Leaving the ground early is asking for a stall/snap, and none of us want that. With the trike gear,...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

The install does look good....But!........I would be a little concerned having the wheel bushing turning on the threads of that bolt. I do not think it will last. The threads will machine away the...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Uh, yah. That is really not a practical solution and asking for trouble! I would bet at our field, it would be fine without brakes, but we will see. If needed, I think you went the right way...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

I think I would try to fly it and see how much you can slow it down. With full flap, that should help shorten the roll out. Dropping the flaps was not an option during your fast taxi runs. We have...

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335

Isn't there a way to have a reverse or "braking" action through the ESC? I thought the RC car guys did that? Also, I thought I had heard of a slight reverse pulse to help the powered glider guys...
