Above is a YouTube web page of the GeeBee Smoking. Sorry about the quality. I'm getting used to a new phone the orientation was wrong.. Had to edit it in YouTube and it took away from the quality. I'll post another one when I run again.

Hey Jose....nice installation. Could you share how you attached your landing gear wires to the landing gear as well how you made the hard points for the wires to attach at the wing. .cant tell from the photo. I wasn't totally happy with the way I did mine because even though it works fine it was difficult to make. I'm sure that others that are just getting started building would appreciate suggestions in that area. I'm thinking about getting a 50cc to go along with my 30cc I just finished so the pic of you standing with yours gives me some idea of it's size....

By the way....I have to say I was impressed with how clean your shop was... PC

For those who are wondering about the 30cc size,

I can tell you this,

I just checked my CG and its almost100% dead on the 133mm back from the leading edge with no lead Needed,

What I have up front to balance it out.

A standard servo for thepower super simple, 1200mah 4cell for spark, 2400mah 5cell for servos, spark controler, Opto Kill swich (the activation led is on the front of the motor so I can see it while faceing the cowl.

And a DLE 55!!! with a 22X10 to start with.

I maybe able toput a stuffed Snoopy in the drivers seat. To put some weight towards the rear.

Also a 4in narrow tire is all that will fit the stock gear vs the 3in that comes with the bird.

There are no hard points for the wires, I just got a 4-40 pull pull wire set up for my landing gear wire, Your able to glue a peace of hard wood on the center support beam throw the servo hole, and the other hard wood was Epoxyed from the inside wing opening.

I may have gotten carryed away with braceing the firewall, but I put screws in all the connections and a $2 balsa ruler is cheap and strong. LOL

Some things that seem to be diff about the 30cc vs 50cc size

The front plastic bolts are easy to get to, and there is a hole in the front of the fire wall for a canister muffler set up, the elevator servos go in the body vs the elevator (to bad I like the 50cc set up better)

Just about finished with my GeeBee. Only thing left is to clean up the wiring and put on the wheel pants. Beautiful airplane. This airplane is very tail heavy and as per Gerrry's suggestion I made any and all efforts to put eveything as far forward as possible. Going to post some pictures to show you guys what I did.. Balanced it tonight and I think even with everyting as far forward I will add 3 oz of lead across the enging mount to get it to come out.
My plane is coming out at 16lb 3oz. I would be interested in what the rest of you are coming up with in terms of weight. >

Well All ready to fly Im comeing in at 16.4 pounds,

Im sure I could drop just a little weightif I took out th stuffed poilt, and moved one of my reciver packs back a little. What CG are you useing? Im sure I could drop some more weight if I could move the fuel tank over the CG line also.

PS: I thought my front wing bolts were hard to get to also, but then I put my arm into the bird above the rudder servo and snaked it foward, its not so bad that way, but if you put your arm in before the center brace (ahead of the rudder servo) its to tight to get my big hand in there. (30cc)

Im hopeing to put mine up next week, how about you?

Iron Mike

Gerry,
We were wondering when the updated oleo struts for the 50cc R3 are going to be available along with the improved/strengthened cowl ?

Thanks,
paul

Jose, What did your 50cc end up weighing?

Nice installation, Mike...I was surprized yours came so close to mine in weight since you put a 50 cc in it. I suppose the smoke system I put in mine took up the difference between the Evo 26cc and the DLE 55. It has occurred to me that the 50cc version of this airplane will end up with a lot lighter wing loading since it doesn't really have any more equipment in it than the 30cc except for a slightly heavier motor. Thats why I'm interested in knowing what Jose's weighed in at...Might consider ordering a 50cc airplane. I was ready to fly mine this weekend but they are calling for significant winds here in the mid west... PC

They are working on the new planes and upgrades now. They have not told me when they will be done. The weight on the web page is VERY wrong. I think they gave me the 30cc weight. SORRY GUYS!!

Well I have been flying my GeeBee for the last 2 days.

This bird is amazing!

I want you guys to make sure you spend a little time makeing sure the wheel paint legs are 100% stright with the body. If you look at my pic, you can see the left leg is off angle.

This made the GeeBee exstreamly hard to fly! It kept makeing the GeeBee Pull really hard while in level flight, and makeing your turns (round abouts) were very hard and required rudder imput to make nice turns. This wheel paint issue seemed to put the GeeBee in a nife edge it did not like to come out of. It deffintily was the hardest thing I have ever flown.

Well My boys talked me into takeing the wheel paints off, and fly with out them. And now I know it was 100% the fact the wheel paint was off that coused my issues.

Today with no wheel paints, it fly amazing! I was able to put it throw its paces within 20sec of the first flight! This GeeBeeis putting my 30cc 540T Edge to shame.

I love the looks, the way the rudder effects my flight, I may just have to put my Edge up for sell so I can get a 100cc of this GeeBee R3

I was blown away that you can almost make your turn with only rudder and only needing a tiny bit of up elevator or airlions correction needed, like war birds.

If you are worryed you cant handle this bird, don't be scarred! Is worth every penney!

Even thow I came in at 16ish pounds for the 30cc size, she floats like my Edge, but looks 10X better. PS There is no need for flaps

Thanks for the positive flight report Mike, you sound stoked with this beastie.

My fave plane is an Edge 540 too so I think the 50cc R3 will be a winner in my books. I'm a foremost a heli fiend so I reckon the R3 will suit my flying style really well.

Happy flying mate.

Well I just want to put my last update out there. If you are looking at the 30cc GeeBee, I just wanted to say a DLE 55 is a pefect motor for this bird. (Not saying the DLE 30 would not be sweet)

I have about 20 flight now with a DLE 55 with 22X10 prop at around 6k Today I put on a 18X14 prop with a prop speed of a 100mph so I fig bird speed was around 80mph 7500rpm. And Boy dose she HALL the MAIL!!! There are no issues with the added Speed.

After 3 flight with the new prop, I took the bird home and looked her over with a fine tooth come for any signs of stress. There where none! I think my next goal will be to get a carbon fiber 18X14 prop or a 17X14-15 prop for some more RPM

GMP should put some company info cards in the box, as I have takeing this bird to 3 diffrent flying sites here in Columbus OHIO, and I have never been asked so many question about my bird. (and Trust me I got some nice ESM war birds that don't draw this much attenshion)

Its supposed to rain all this week so I will be putting the wheel paints back on

Also she takes some rudder when landing.

Good Luck and have fun guys

Sorry about spelling. .

No it was the one there selling now!

I always feel kind of odd, when I tell the guys at the feild that the current modle is cheaper due to some issue.

And when I point the issues out, they all look at me like "Really that all"

Its a great plane, I would not wate for the modle with the updates, as I do not see anything wrong with what he is selling now. I would have to say I would like landing gear with shocks, but that is just becouse I like all my birds to have the best landing gear. But So far with all my flights I have no had any issues with the stock gear.

How did you remove the wheel pants, the two leg welded construction would seem to require cutting the pants to get the struts out.

Thanks for posting what looks like a 10th Grade LG tech assignment.....and an even bigger thanks for rejecting it.

How long do you reckon this will hold up the next batch of kits?
