Wasp I owned this plane with exactly the same setup. It was a dream to fly and sounded so nice. Unfortunately I lost it last year due to an engine cut...
I have another 2 Saito 90twins brand new in their boxes if anybody is interested.

The old/new Saito .65 is supposed to arrive tomorrow, that's fast service. It has been said that the hump in the middle of the piston is for higher compression. Clarence Lee says it is to clear the upper rod end.

Good morning Pete, the bump is clearly visible through the glow plug hole, but it does have 12.7 to 1 compression, whether that's because of the bump, I don't know. Clarence Lee said it was not a fussy engine. I'll see if I can get that shot you mentioned.

Well you could slide the crank out then hold the piston and rod assy up and look in there,maybe take a photo and let us know what you see.Is it a high compression bump or not?

Picture #1 shows the carb metering slot and the fuel inlet with which it indexes. Picture #2 shows the edge of the bump in the center of the piston. The bump allows the rod to be longer reducing rod angularity which in turn reduces side thrust and friction. According to Clarence lee.

I had mentioned that I made the velocity stack on the new .65 and here you see how I did it. The 1/4" drive 3/16" socket is a snug fit into the 9mm OD H&S tube and that's good so the socket can't wobble around and make the flair lopsided. The O-ring makes it require some pressure to push the clip up onto the carb. All this one needs is for the other end to be flaired. It's just a piece of scrap though. The brass tube ones are better looking, I think.I use 9.5mm tube for the 1.00 and 1.25 Saito's

Okc i was on a shooting trip way back and we'd had a big night on the beer.On the way to the shooting spot in the morning there were six of us crammed into a ford marquis luxury saloon when the silent and deady came into effect.People started yelling 'pull over' the car was empty before it came to a full stop.

OK Gents, I finally got/took the opportunity to run the rebuilt Saito 1.30-T, I did not prime it, it took it about 3 seconds to pull fuel out of the Roto Flow 14 oz tank and it fired right up. It was way rich, I pretty much did my usual break in considering that it had a new piston and ring in the right cylinder and a new ring in the left and four new valves,, cams, lifters, springs, keeper's etc. After about 25 minutes I stopped it and turned each LS needle in 3/4 of a turn, it will idle at 2,500 without dropping a cylinder. I need to work on the linkage before I can go lower than that.

Prop======Master Airscrew 15x8 S2
Plugss=== (4) OS-f
Fuel =====Wildcat 10% with 18% full synthetic
Exhaust===two Saito 65/82 revised mufflers.
Max rpm @ close to full peak==9,120, Clarence Lee got 8,700 with a Zinger 15x8
There are too many things going on to run it longer, another 30 minutes and then I'll go for full peak.

Wish I had time to run up my engines. I have 4 that need to be run in, two new NGH 38CC 4 stroke gas, and two used YS engines that I have sitting around. I also have the Saito 91 in the new 4*60 that hasn't been run for years and was given to me. Should fire right up, but wont know until I get it on the stand. Really eager to hear how those 38CC engines sound with a stack. They are going in my B-25.
