If you folks are interested, Back Order stuff seems to be coming to Horizon this month. I have the valves set to the Saito gauge setting. If you want them tighter I can do that but I don't like to.

absolutely no hurry, when you get done is just fine. i was just curious.
Also the information i get i can use it towards the other 4 i have.
The dude that gave theme up is going to be so jealous of how well those engines run it will be funny.

Here it is, I put a new metal back plate on that I had in a box of Saito, (stuff) I'll send the plastic one also.

I received the Bush Hawk kit, what a nice kit, everything about it exudes quality.

It's a genuine Saito .82/72 back plate, from a bunch of extra parts a friend passed on to me. I still have a crankcase if anyone needs it.

Yeah I don’t like those plastic back plates. Would be nice to change them out.

It appears to me that Saito may have employed some marketing ploy to favor the FA-100-125 size engines since they wanted to advance the FG-2.1 If you look at the specified RPM listing for the FA-100 and FA-115 they seem to have been swapped showing an output of 2.1 HP for the FA-100 and 1.8 HP for the FA-115. That's just the opposite of the specifications.

Saito is abandoning the Glow engines in favor of the FG line. They now market very few glow fuel engines that don't have an FG counterpart. The FA-100 and FA-150 are the only glow fuel single cylinder engines in their current lineup that don't have gas counterparts.

Also, according to the Saito specifications page Specifications the difference in weight between the FA-100 and FA-115 is only 36 grams which comes to 1.3 oz, NOT 2.39 oz.

Manufacturers often skew specifications to favor products that yield more profit. Case in point? General motors listed MPG figures as the same for manual and automatic transmissions for their 4 cylinder cars in 2007. This was with their pathetic 3 and 4 speed automatics. When the fuel crisis reared its head, in a mater of days they came out with "new technology" that improved the fuel economy of the manual equipped cars by 4 MPG. General Motors can't make a decision on a new coffee pot for the executive lounge in 3 days let alone "new technology".

Well, if it's good enough to get us to the moon and back I'm not going to complain. Besides, what's wrong with just learning both? That's what I did when I was stationed in Germany. It doesn't take a long time to do. A lot of people think Americans are the only oddballs, but that isn't true. The Brits have some odd units that only they use. Another example and getting away from the Brit thing, we had to figure out our flights using statute miles, nautical miles, and kilometers. Magnetic headings were either true north, magnetic north, or grid north (north moves around every year). BTW, we had not heard of GPS back then. Our aircraft didn't even have DME.

Pete & Dave- here's something you probably won't see anywhere else, I don't think. I've seen Cub short landing and takeoff contests, but this is the all time winner: https://www.chonday.com/23846/bushals5/

I'm highly skeptical of the full context of your quotes there, Dan. One thing is certain; around here you are making a big mistake if you think any female (or male) is unarmed. It's often surprising when I hear of how many cute little things, young and old, are toting and have spent a lot of time being taught at the firing ranges. I think the top 2 places women most fear to be unarmed are at church or in a movie theater. Anyway, Alabama is a carry state probably moreso than any other state and we have the politicians to back it up.

blw, that Cub's landing was very short, but it could be shortened up a bit more easily if they just put a centrifugal clutch between the engine and prop

Horses and oxen got us to California too but we don't use them any more do we?

Haven't you seen the U-Haul rates for leaving California? They're 3 times higher than hauling to California because so many people are leaving and renting U-Hauls for one way trips. Nobody wants to move there.

The 1.00 intake pipe measures 10 mm at the bottom and 10.5 mm at the top. I measured around the circumference to make sure the curve was not causing the difference. They are both straight at that point. Interesting.
Does anyone have an FA-115 to measure the intake manifold? I would to know if the 125 is the same size as the 115 manifold where it enters the head. They both use the same valves.

This aroused my curiosity since the 100 part of the suffix is the engine size and the last 3 numbers would be the part. All carburetors have the 821 suffix, sometimes with an "A" or "B".

831 is a carburetor body only.

The FA-100 and FA-115 both use the SAI100821 carburetor. To my mind, this is odd since the 115 has the same bore (and valves) as the 125 and bore size is supposedly how Saito sizes the carburetor ventouri.

The SAI100831 part is at the top of the FA-100 parts page and it is indeed a carburetor body only.. If you scroll down, you will find the SAI100821 carburetor.

According to this archived page found on Googly the 1.15 has it's own intake pipe.

I see, my bad on that one

well if you do please just measure the OD, no need to take them apart. the 100 and 115 should have the same OD (same Carb), so if you have a 125 check the 125 and 115, and One would think the 125's would be naturally larger, ether way One would have to wonder if the 115 would benefit some from a slightly larger Carb

see, even you guys can't leave anything alone LOL

It's the interface with the head that interest me, not the carburetor end. With the 115 having the same valves as the 125, the ports should be of similar size.

There's no way that you could get optimum performance from the 115 with the smaller 100 carburetor which should be optimized to the FA-91 sized bore and smaller valves of the FA-100.

If the FA-125 manifold is the same O.D. at the head interface, it could be shortened on the bottom to allow an FA-125 carburetor to be used on the FA-115.

Even if it isn't the same O.D at the head, a tapered manifold design gradually reducing diameter towards the port end from the larger FA-125 venturi might achieve some insane port velocity.

I did something similar with the 12 mm Big Bore FA-220 carburetor on the 12.7:1 high compression FA-180 and gained about 200 RPM on top of the additional gains from higher compression..

Of course they're different. The FA-125 is 7 mm taller than the FA-115 from the crank C/L to the top of the rockers. (The 100 is another mm taller than the 125)

BTW; If you look closely, you'll notice that both of those pictures are of the same manifold.. Either that or they got awfully lucky with the lighting.

I can take the cowl off this and LOOK at the inlet pipe but if nobody else has an fa115 to measure it would mean removing the engine to remove the inlet pipe and measure it,it's hard up against the firewall

Nothing wrong with them cap.

Sr you mean they phased out horses and oxen for farming over your way? just kidding, seriously i thought you bought an fa115 a while back.

Okc your comments about horizon are timely,i believe a gungho mark zuckerman is about to have that strongly suggested to him in court. If you download an uber taxi app so you can book a private car here you must agree to give them access to all your mobile phone data before the app will upload to your phone, then you can use the service.I've long believed that the data they mine for sale makes the revenue from their taxi service look like peanuts...and we're the chumps

Seems I was having some severe brain cramping yesterday.

The fact is, I have an FA-115 and I just measured the manifold. It appears to be the same O.D. at the top and bottom as the FA-100 manifold.
