I just went down and checked two of my 80's. One I bought brand new when they first came out when I worked for Hobby Shack. The other I bought about 10 years ago. I filled the cylinder at BDC with oil and then again at TDC. They both held about 16.2 CC's at BDC and about 2 CC's at TDC. That gives a comp ratio of about 8.1 to 1, give or take a bit. Guess I got an early oddball. Always wrong, I guess. Another funny little item. The newer one is ABC, too. It has an 8.1 to 1 Comp ratio AS MEASURED. Either that or Saito is wrong too. Weird,huh? You can say what you want but I know what I just measured.

The ABC's run just fine on YS20-20 but I use 10% because I'm cheap and got a great price for it. 8.1 to 1 isn't all that high a compression ratio. Both are ABC's and both have that same volumes and same compression ratios.

I have a quick ?. I am putting my 91GK on my new Funtana X50 and I was wondering what prop you would suggest for this application. I will be doing 3D with it. I purchased a 14X4W, but I don't know if it will be enough prop for my application.

I ran a Pro Zinger 14X6 on my FA91 in a Funtana 40. Worked well.

The owner of my local HS is a machinist by trade. I am going to ask him if he could make a velocity stack for my 125, can anyone recommend the proper length and diameter of the stack to achieve the maximum performance
I spend most of my days machining metal -- but I wouldn't dream of spending my own valuable time making a stack when the geniune Saito item is so cheap. There's no way that I (or anyone who values their time) could make one for the price that Horizon charges.

Torque Wrench's intake stack is for a Saito 125 which happens to have a carb that is too large for the Saito intake stack which was originally made for the 50.

The stack I got from Horizon fits the carb on my 100 perfectly. I certainly hope I don't have a carb from a .50 on my 1.00, or I am missing out on some huge power!

here's some pictures of that 10 year old "black sheep" Saito 80. Top Flite 14x6, OS type "f" plug, 12 1/2 %nitro, 19% 60/40 castor/synthetic oil. 9200 RPM. 6 minutes on 6 ounces and no fuel coming out the intake. Standard old non "stack" carb. This engine was a joy to set up. One flip start, set needle and go play. No more difficult than any of the other saitos I own and easier than a couple.

Oh by the way. Thr shiney silver muffler was completey black with burnt on oil. 10 minutes in hot Cheveron perfect engine cleaner made it look like this. Beats all night in a 20 dollar crock pot that you can never use again.

We use the crockpot over and over again to clean our engines. You just can't use it again to cook food, lest anyone misunderstand what we are talking about. On the other hand that expensive few ounces of dedicated engine cleaner liquid is gone forever after a few engines have been cleaned. I can buy a lot of Prestone antifreeze at any Wal-Mart, Advanced Auto, etc., for the price of a can of Chevron engine cleaner. Where can I find Chevron engine cleaner locally? We can't even keep a hobbyshop open around here that sells R/C airplane stuff these days, so the answer is "nowhere".

Since my neighbors found out that I'm cooking engines, they think it is cute, I have turned down several free crockpots. I imagine this could happen to anyone that let out the word that they were using unwanted crockpots in their garage for various purposes. Lots of folks just throw away an old one when it gets skanky looking (burnt on overflow) and replace it with another $10.00 unit. At that price, they're not even worth cleaning for some folks.

From what I have read on the Saito (Horizon) website a stack for the 125 is not available. If I am wrong please direct me to the right place. Also as bill said the length of the stack will vary depending upon the size of the engine and opening of the carb, so the stack is engine specific.

The SAI50GK93 stack fits the FA-100 and the FA-125 just fine. The only problem is that Horizon keeps running out of stock, sometimes you have to wait.

The length is the same on all the engines, it’s the ratio of length to carb bore that is different from one to another. As two examples, the FA-82 with a 0.2†bore ha the five to one ratio, while the FA-72 at 0.18†bore is 5½ to one. And of course, the FA-125 with a 0.22 bore is down to 4½ to one. These bore sizes are guesses looking in, not measured, I’ve just used them as examples. At any rate, so long as we have the 4 to 1 (or greater) ratio the stack works fine.

Why does a guy machine his own velocity stack when he could just buy one?? Some of us still BUILD our airplanes, too. It is cheaper to go buy an arf but we ENJOY flying something we MADE. I suspect that some guys machine things just for the enjoyment and from the feeling one gets from making something. I have a friend that makes his own engines. He could go buy one but he likes making his own. I machined a C/L venturi for one of my R/C engines when I could have bought one from OS. Why?? because I COULD. I have a 6 inch South Bend and I make a lot of things on it that I could just buy.

The cleaner I buy costs less than a gallon of antifreeze and lasts long enough to do many engines. Let's see, you said you can by Cheveron cleaner "nowhere". I live in Bremerton, WA and we don't have a hobby shop locally but I seem to be able to get it. How?? It's called mail order. I just call Sheldon's on the toll free number and order it and give him my Visa number. Not real difficult. Oh and it doesn't come in a can.

Another plus. Cheveron works FAST. I don't have to wait forever while antifreeze does the job. 15 minutes usually does the job.

Well, I just finished the experiment. Bought a 9 dollar crock pot yesterday and tried your method for cleaning an engine. Put a reasonably nice condition McCoy 35 Redhead in the pot with a quart of anti freeze. It had a lot of hardened castor all over it and some black goo cooked on the head. Thank God I didn't use one of my good engines or expensive collector items. Take a good look at the pictures. The aluminum parts are now a grey color. Used to be nice and shiney silvery color. The red paint on the head is GONE. What used to be an old engine with some collector value is now just another runner.

You use your crock pot, I'll use my "dedicated engine cleaner".

I'm going to clean the crock pot and use it for what it was designed for. FOOD.

what is the MAX-Recommend RPM you guys using?? i'm using omega15% fule and 16x8 Prop...

Juvaknin, is that a Somenzini Yak? I have a Saito 180 on my 11Lb 11Oz 73" somenzini Yak 54 and use a Pro Zinger 18X6. I get about 8500 RPm's using 30% Cool Power. There is also a perry pump. Performance is very good........EMVIN>>>

Nop it's CMPro yak-54.. as know "heavy weight yak"
it's fly great, i love it.... but now i'm using around 8500 RPM, but i want more power.. can i go up to 9200 RPM with 16x8 Prop??
and another question, this Fule-Pump you using.. giving you any diffrent?
my engine working amazing.. i don't see it needed.... why you using it?

9200 is OK just dont go past 10,000. I use the fuel pump as my tank is set back over the CG , therefore I'm running about 8" of fuel line. The long fuel line was causing the engine to run hot and it was also at a loss of power. The perry pump works very well..Although it took some time to get it tuned properly....

Bill, I had another compression ratio site, but I think I lost it.
The original Saito 80 had the highest compression ratio ever recorded.
Some folks just don't know that. This chart shows almost 160.

The other site I had was better, Bill....as you can see....

....if the guy had run the engines first to seat the ring, and spun them over
with the starter (the same way you would check a car engine for compression)
his readings would have been much higher. The actual maximum compression for
a perfect condition old model Saito .80 is thru the roof. [X(]

The normal perfect compresion for a two stroke engine is around 125 PSI.

Thankyou for that Daver, I know that when I flip mine there is a noticeable difference between it and other fourstrokes, same with my 1.50. My 1.50 is a very early version being a black engine with chrome rocker covers, I seem to remember that a couple of engine testers in the early ninetys rated them at 14.4 and 15.6 to 1 cr. I know that both will start on Davis Diesel fuel with no heat applied where as my .56 will start on the Diesel fuel with glow heat but quits as soon as its removed.
