Nice looking engine, but it would look better in Pink!

I would buy one of these if I could mount a Saito or two to it

Dave i dang hate those meeces to peeces who sign off in mysterious ways so you have to try and figure out what the hell it means, same goes for personalized number plates on cars. It would be interesting to know how old others here are. You are 77, i'm about to turn into a route 66 age and gary is 69 tho i've always felt that's it's suggestive number, and in morse code should be 88 how old are all the other lunatics here?

Which Short Kit are you going to order? Are the cowl and canopy from a old kit? I love the look of the Navion and the Cirrus SR22

Here's a lovely Pink one.

Pete,

I missed commenting on your posts. That is an outstanding paint work on the Indian tank. If you ever move to our area, you have a job! Your boss will still be an Aussie
No, I did not make the muffler, that is an early Saito part.

My regrets regarding your Mother in law. Those shoes look like they have been to H and back. Not what you want to see from a funeral.

Don't let those envious, nattering naybobs of negativity poop on your party. That 65 is a very fine engine. Certainly no "wimp"! It is stronger than, more powerful than, far smoother than and more durable than the lighter FA-62.

They would love to have one at twice what yours cost

Well just got a pile of Saito 80 parts.
but enough to put another 80 together. Will run that today and see how it runs.
there’s someone out there would like to get a 91
that will be the next ones I get tuned and running awesome.

That picture is of a Musicano Navion the very design I want to build. The two piece canopy and cowl came from Fiberglass specialties. I have a lot of pictures and documentation from another forum member who never got around to building it. The short kit will probably be ready Friday from a local guy getting into custom laser cutting. Check out the size of the canopy compared to the cowl! I agree with Gary I think the .65 would be great on this airplane. I will need to open the firewall to allow the carb to sit behind it. I did the same on my SIG 1/5th Cub I put the .80 Saito in it.

Rod cap offset left.

All but the bolts.

Gary, you had given me a heads up on the left cylinder, it is cracked across the exhaust area, I manged to get a clear shot of it. Thanks for the new left cylinder. I was careful to keep track of which way the rod caps were installed and marked them with black paint. I deliberately installed one backwards, left in the picture and you can see it's offset by about 1/64" or so. Both are offset if wrong. It's good to know that. The two bearings still on the crank are OK. The idler gear bearing is good, the carb is perfect. Pictures coming. I don't know what would crack a head in that manner.

That's a 60 size plane by all rights. AUW will land between 8-9 lbs? With a Semi symetrical airfoil, tapered wings, built up airfoil tail feathers and rated for up to .60 2 stroke it appears to be designed to fly fairly fast. The fa65 may work out ok due to the fairly light wing loading of that particular plane. I can't argue with Gary's recommendation as I have never owned an fa 65 or a completed 60 size plane for that matter.

Personally I'd put an fa82 on it if it could be balanced without adding static weight, but that's just me. I usually use larger engines where possible and throttle management for scale appearance.Thing is, our little airplanes don't carry much inertia into up lines due to less than scale weight so an engine with bigger nuggets can be helpful to pull off nice round loops and deal with higher headwinds.

I have a vintage 40 size Funster boned up with clipped wings and almost ready to cover. It's in some ways similar in design and weight to your Navion so I look forward to seeing where your final engine selection ends up.

A FA-82 would never fit the cowl, I may still need to make a few holes to clear the rocker covers on the .62. I thought when I get the fuselage started I would look at the engine compartment and decide on the engine and its position. I am having the cutter eliminate the holes for maple bearers so I can use a composite motor mount and give myself a little latitude on engine choices.

I'm a fanboy of mounting 4 strokes inverted. Having the head stick out the bottom of the cowl is good for cooling, Seeing as you're getting a short kit you could mount a custom firewall further back and put in a former ring in the current firewall position? Moves your fuel tank back closer to the cg too.

Moving the whole firewall back might mess with the nose gear retract position, I will need to review. I did invert the .80 on the Cub and did like the look. Only the valve covers show and only part of them.

I may leave as is, it would be easy enough though. If I do it will match the 90 ts which I sold a while back.

Those raw aluminum cylinders are what set the slick little 60T apart from the 90TS imho.

Choosing engines, I am far from a horse power dependent. Learned in the old days to make use of the wing and fly smoothly thru maneuvers. Rarely opting for the bigger, shakier engines. In fact, I often take off a larger engine and move to the smaller. My Rascal 110 started out with a 180 and I like it far better with the 150. My 1/5 WACO also tried a debut with a Saito 180 and it is now a thing of beauty with an old 120 Saito fathead. Even the YS powered Kadet is going back to a simple 65 next year.

In general I favor the smaller displacement of a given case series of engines. They tend to run more smoothly and last longer. I have five Saito 82s sitting in boxes, the planes they were in now have Saito 62s and 72s. .

I am the guy who sticks the Saito out so you can see it. Why hide a beautiful piece of work

Thanks again,I waited so long to get one and had more or less given up and yours popped up totally unexpected. Geri even took notice and loves it. Same here I've always chosen engines on the small end of the scale.
