Valve’s are good a while back I tried to put in a Healy coil for the glow plug I was wondering if it wasn’t too far gone because it barely cut any threads in to put the Healy coil in. So that is leaking bad I need a new head. To bad the engine is low time.

Gary, I did a little research and according to Walt Musciano's article he pulled the .60 and put in a .40 because the Navion would pull straight up like a Messerschmitt. The .65 should do great! Walt also mention if he was to build another he would have sheeted the whole wing and not had the open area. I think I will follow his suggestion and sheet the entire wing and fiberglass the surface.

I would.

Thank you for the comments on the indian paint job everybody, i never forget i'm lucky i get paid to do it.

Lonnie i lean your way huge on big powerful saito fourstrokes for small aeroplanes you can always throttle them back, and most of the overpowered aeroplanes i've built have not needed any lead in the tail, like okc i'm happy to relieve the bulk head so the carby sits behind it.

Dave has bruce fessed up to his real name/age somewhere and i missed it ? or is he waiting for fedex to deliver the calculator?

ps i hope it's got spell check

Displacement, Bore, Stroke, Weight, Shaft Thread, HP
FA-80
13.1
27.0
22.8
540
M7x1
1.3

FA-82a
13.8
29.0
20.4
462
M7x1
1.5

You would have to swap the 82 piston and ring over as well, and possibly the rod. Hard to say where the compression ratio would end up. Even if the cylinder head mounting hole pattern is the same the 82 cylinder head may not fit in the 80 case.

Could open up a big can of worms,

I plan on being lighter, his design was way overbuilt. The laser cutter and I have made some mods and material substitutions I think will do the trick.

Nope, shorter. Saito went more "over square" with the 82, short stroke big bore. It should produce peak power at higher rpms than the longer stroke smaller bore of the 80.

Yes, the 80 has good grunt for larger props.
The 82 only makes the horsepower when the RPM range is extended. The 80 also has a stronger case.

Is there a case for the 82 being the stronger engine?

MacGregor's has one in stock, if that is an option. 77 bucks.

This is confusing, the header say Saito 80 cylinder left, the caption below the picture says it's for a 72.
