Okay friends and almost neighbors, Geri and I left East Liverpool Ohio at 12:20 pm yesterday and arrived at home at 7:50 pm. we stopped once for fuel and twice more for her to walk for a few minutes. I cheated the speed limits generously.

I sneak peaked through "the box" that is quite well and generously packed, thanks Gary. Now to get back in the groove. It's cold a snowy here so the first order of business is to get the wood burner fired up again. A busy day ahead to say the least.
PS, I picked up a brand new MERCO 40 bushed engine, smelly two stroke. More later on that.

Saito fans,

I am trying to figure out how small a fuel tank I can get away with on a Mark's Models SDB powered by a Saito 100 twin. They didn't leave a lot of room to access the fuel tank from the rear. I am hoping to fly about twelve minutes with a couple of minute reserve. Anyone have any fuel burn advice?

Thanks for asking, Thursday they did a procedure called a Bronchoscopy and that helped a whole bunch, she felt better as soon as the anesthetic wore off. She's resting today and glad to playing with 4 yo Haley. Thanks to all for your prayers and concern.

Dave, in general Saito's use one oz of fuel per minute per cubic inch of displacement at full throttle, as they get larger that figure improves. Getting the LS needle correct is of vital importance for economy, more than any other factor.

I am pleased with my purchase of goodies from Gary. There are many parts for big block Saitos, various kinds and shapes of metal, some serious cutting oil, lots to play with. Some of the rest of you should take him up on that.

Dave, good to hear you two are back home. The older Julie and I get the more road trips wear us down. Used to be nothing for us to drive 12+ hours, visit for a day and drive back home. Not so much now. We get homesick now too, something that never happened a decade ago.

The 100 seems happy with a 14x8 APC at 9250 peak. 1.72 hp (calculated)

the 100 has a longer stroke, I'm betting the 115 will turn that APC 14X8 close to 9800 or a bit more

There's no replacement for displacement Crunchy. The 115 has a 15% larger displacement than the 100 and makes approx 15% more power.

Saito specs the 100 at 1.8 hp and the 115 at 2.1 hp. 1.8 hp + 15% = 2.07 hp

The 100 is over square (piston diameter larger than stroke) but the 115 is even more over square having a bore close to the 125 and a stroke close to the 91. Along with that 125 size piston comes the larger 125 size valves. All good for top end power theoretically.

Sure, I'll test the 115 with a 14x8 apc for you guys. I'll have to wait for the weather. FWIW the static thrust calc says it takes 2.08 hp to turn a 14x8 apc at 9800. The 115 should get it there.

What's the weight difference? I flew my P-51 with the 100 and it flew well, and with the 125, I really can't tell much difference between the two other than the doppler with the125 that I didn't hear with the 100.

Saito fa100 is 20.9 oz and the fa115 is 23.49 oz. The fa125 is 24.69 oz. I've read in a number of places that the fa115 has the highest power to weight ratio of any of the saitos, that's one of the reasons I was looking for one.

My 60 size Topflite P51 flies good on the fa100 as well. No speed demon, but no shortage of pulling power either. It's just about right. I was going to mount the fa115 on it but I think I'll put the fa115 on the 46-55 size Strega instead. That why I bench tested it with the 12x12.5 prop. I have a 13x11 apc on order.

I am putting a Saito100 in a word model’s 46 size P51. (I know the thought’s I happened to like world model’s). I was wondering for those who do math what would be the best speed prop. My thinking was a 12X12 APC. Please help me see the light
