Hadn't thought of drilling the clip, figured it was spring steel. I had one of the factory stacks fall off in flight and replaced it with brass tubing. I turned the tubing down to fit the existing hole in the clip and swaged it to secure.

To use a 10 mm tube you need to drill it. I put them in my little vise and gently clamp them to drill.

I always file the "clips" to size with a smooth, round file. No stress or distortion and a perfect fit .

Looks great Gary, I like the larger shoulder on the stack to keep things from distorting when swaged. Aluminum is lighter too. Win win.

I finally got the 90T apart. The bearings are a real mess. Both front and rear are seized.The LH piston was a real PITA to remove the pin. This was crucial in order to remove the connecting rods. Then I discovered it slides in/out from one direction only. 🤯 Maybe that is why there is only one retaining disc on each piston pin. 🤔

There's a lot of burnt on blowby on that left piston. It was probably run with a stuck ring.

You may be right. Both rings were stuck however. A total clean and reassemble is in order.

There’s hardly any carbon inside each cylinder and the valves are pretty clean as well. I know so many people say this about engines but it does look pretty low time.

The problem with these engines it seems is that they really need to be flushed out and well lubed for long term storage.

It’ll be interesting to see how this compares to the fa-72 when I get it all done. I’m guessing near equivalent power.

True, these little engines benefit tremendously from a strict regimen of afterun oil and a nice shot of CorrosionX for long term storage. Almost every used 4S engine I've bought has been run while gummed up. Most had pistons that look like your 90T, flat spotted tappets and dented cams.

BTW, a tight fitting popsickle stick works great for cleaning piston ring grooves.

The oddfire twins do a pi$$ poor job of case venting. Leads to a lot of trapped crap inside. Add to that, high case pressure disturbs the pressure differential that presses the ring to the cylinder wall.
Directing positive venting thru the engine , carrying oil to areas most in need of oil can vastly improve that situation in most any engine.

Limiting castor percentage to 2% or maybe 4% and good dry run down and after oiling will eliminate valve sticking and bound up rings. You still get the extreme pressure qualities that minimize valve train mechanicals. Just no sticky stuff. The directed venting also helps promote effective after run oiling.

The 90T has an interesting lubrication system to say the least. First, there is a vane pump unit driven off the crank pin which I assume pumps air through the engine. Then there are 2 extra passages in the crankcase to allow oil to get the cam area. But what is strange is why restrict the nipple where the oil is suppose to discharge?

That does not appear to be factory thing, I rebuilt a 90-t a while back and it was not restricted. I found several images on line and they did not appear to be restricted either.

I got a chance to run an early 65 I rebuilt a while back.

Engine, early Saito 65 with 12.7 to 1 compression
Prop======Xoar 13 x 6
Fuel======Wildcat 10% with 18% fuel synthetic lube
Plug======Well used Fox Miracle
Exhaust===Late revised, cast muffler
Idle======2,100
Max rpm==9,950

At full blatt.

At 6,000, super smooth.

Pretty sure it is how they come. Mine arrived that way and have seen other twins with the same nipple.

No worries. ☺️

Not sure why the engineers at Saito thought that was a good idea though.

Dave that's some peak RPM numbers there, knowing that a Xoar 17x6 loaded my Magnum 180 4St 300 RPM less than an APC 17x8 did>. I have to wonder what that FA65 would have spun an APC 14x6 to/at.

I am pretty sure I don't have an APC 14 x 6, but I'll check, since I don't fly them I'm always hesitant to buy them.

Search for 2-56 threaded aluminum standoff, that's what I used. Can be cut to any length you desire and simply drilling a hole near the end for your throttle cable is a snap. Connecting it to the throttle lever requires only one screw, a washer and some blue loctite.

Thanks, looks like the radial adapter will work. SAI90R3131
