Yes, I do have acetylene around the house. I would only loan it to another person who understands safe use and storage.
If you choose not to have it around, it makes no difference where or how I store mine.
Safe handling instructions are best learned from official sources, not hear-say.
I wish my neighbors understood safe use and storage of gasoline, propane, weed killers etc nearly as well.

BTW, By the numbers, Oxygen cylinders probably do more real damage and injury than the acetylene cylinders.

Geez, All I asked is how are they stored around a home. It was a freaking legit question. I know HOW to use them from my days cutting exhaust systems, but not long term storage.

I was just looking for an experienced answer, but hey, never mind, YOUR mind is made up. Yes, I said what I read makes them sound scary. Scary as in storing one in my workshop would be a bad idea, but I have storage sheds outside to store when not in use. But, Whatever.

Well its back up to -6 now, the heater has been running since I woke up at 6 and inside it reached 67F. Naturally the TV just announced the rolling blackouts are getting ready to start, life sucks!

Spoke with Pedro yesterday. They got a bunch of ice down there which shut down a mess of wind turbines. Very cold there too. Texas is on rolling blackouts as well. He said he may jump on here today.

Wish I was plumber in Texas right now. BIG money!

The rolling blackouts extend from Texas to North Dakota and New Mexico to Arkansas. A lot of wind power shutdown in this are too!

Lonnie made his pi####g contest judgement and you figured out that storing acetylene in the shed isn't all that scary.

Personally, those RVs rolling down the road hauling propane cylinders are far more worrisome.
The average RV driver is clueless regarding propane safety .

I'll store an acetylene tank over propane any day. For that matter I have an MC size tank in the garage now. We had a local home blown off the face of the earth last month by the propane tank in the backyard. The suspect a supply line leak at or near the tank. Not enough left to be sure. It was in an older gated community built around a lake. All the homes have propane tanks the addition has never had natural gas service.

I have a 1000 gallon next to the house, holds 800 liquid. Propane stinks like crazy, so you can always tell if there is a leak. Of course my house is one of those hell houses, like in the movie the Money Pit. If the tank went off, it would solve a lot of problems, just as long as we are not around when it does.

I think the term you are looking for is it needs a good case of Jewish lightening? A common occurrence in NYC when the business has a fire sale prior to the unfortunate accidental fire.

yeah, something like that. I completely remodeled the kitchen 2003. New everything. Then had the gutters fail at the corner where the room addition that was previously built before we moved in, meets the kitchen. Little did I know that water entered that area, ran down the wall, and destroyed the cabinets from the inside as well as the subfloor. To fix it requires a complete tear out of everything because the cabinets are no longer made, the company went bankrupt when Home Depot pulled the contract. Since I can no longer match the cabinet, the oven wall and island have to be ripped out too. I have granite tile countertops that would be destroyed in the process as well as the tiled backsplash.

Thats just one of the many things that has happened due to water leaking. I fixed the roof leaks and gutter back flows, but the damage inside is done. With the constant sump pump failures, and high humidity at times, the hardwood floor I installed through 80% of the house is now edge blackened as if the ends were stuck in a bucket of water. I never got the one bathroom back together, it requires ripping out all the plumbing, and to do that I have to also rip the plumbing out of the bathroom behind that. I just don't have it in me anymore to get it done in one weekend.

I hate this place and would gladly pack all my workshop stuff, my planes, and level the place. I am waiting on my horses to pass, then will do a quick remodel of everything and sell it. Let the underlying problems I can't fix be some one elses issues. Handymans special, all yours.

I just heard one of the local hospitals had a water main break and flood 3 operating rooms. They should put them out of business for at least a week.
