RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Doug, I ran mine today with a 16x8 MasterAirscrew Classic and a 16x8 Mejzlick. The MA Classic turned 8,900 and the Mejzlick 9.340. on WildCat 15%/18% lube. I recently put a new cam in it and upgraded it to the new Cast muffler and its accompanying pipe.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I recently obtained a 2nd hand but low time FA-65. The previous owner ran it about 6 times but did not flush out the crankcase. Consquently congealed castor oil & some light surface rust.
Last night I pulled it apart but forget to check whether the dimple on the conrod faces the front or the rear of the engine. Which way is correct?
Also, despite reasonable amount of heat from my heatgun & healthy blows from my rubbet mallet, I am having CONSIDERABLE trouble removing the crankshaft, I guess due to the congealed castor oil. Maybe I just need to bang the mallet harder.
Should I try to dissolve the castor oil by placing the crankcase in kerosene thereby breaking it's grip? That in combination with more heat & bigger blows of the mallet.
Thanks in advance

Yes that's quite normal, when I inject Corrosion X in a Saito whether front vent or rear it comes out of the front bearing but they never leak when running.

Your glo plug is bad or you have no fuel to the engine
I should have added that I checked out the fuel system and it appears fine. I assumed the glow plug (OS "F") to still be good with such low time on it, but that would be an easy fix.
I have a fuel filter inline for fueling planes, but not onboard. I've considered it, but you might have inspired me to go ahead and install filters in all planes.
Thanks for the input.

Stallwart, do you have a fuel filter installed?

I threw the prop on my Saito 45 this weekend. Purring along on its third flight of the day. Not a pop or a hiccup, the prop and spinner just departed the airplane and spun to the ground. I landed the plane straight ahead. Picked up the prop, and it doesn't have a scratch even though it fell on hard dry lake bed. Guess I better double nut it. Anyone have a prop nut for an old Saito 45?

Doug, for the Saito 150 and Showtime, try the APC 17x6. As for the TT spinner, the 2 1/4" wide blade spinner p/n is TT-2282-B-W. The double jam nut adapter kit is TT-0823-A. The backplate may need some modification to fit the Saito 150. Check with Rick or Bob at TruTurn http://www.tru-turn.com/

hehehehe...... yes, I know they must come off first....but both are stuck fast.
Anyway, will try again with more heat & harder blows from the mallet.
But with respect to my other question - which way does the dimple on the conrod face ? to the front or rear of the engine ?

Hmmm...I don't recall right off hand which way the dot goes...maybe someone else will help out there? I would look at the big end and put the side with the heavier chamfer towards the crank.
I got a small 3 jaw puller for something like 10-12 bucks and use that to pull a good tension on the driver while heating it evenly with a propane torch...
Sometimes ya gotta get that sucker pretty dang hot before it'll pop free.

Thanks Proptop - you have convinced me that I definately need a 3 jaw puller. Nearly lunch time here so the hunt is now on.
Will see what others have to say about the dimple on the rod.

Haven't started building plane yet. With the 2# plus Saito 150 I'm guessing a little over 9#s, which should be fine for the Showtime. Really impressed with the plane so far. This engine is awesome in how much power it has. It literally was almost tipping my Black & Decker workmate over.
