Welcome to Club SAITO !
Dave, remember he has the 170 R3, the one with a tiny vent nipple hole. Could be that some of the fuel standoff present in the intake tract during valve overlap periods is entering the crankcase by design.
Rob, does any oil come out of the crankcase nipple while running the engine?

Will check to be sure.

I have ordered about 6 crankcase vents recently and they are all with the small holes. It should not be possible for raw fuel to enter the crankcase no matter the vent hole size.
I would agree, however in the case of Rob's 170 R3 it appears to be possible. Problems with unequal fuel delivery between the 3 cylinders is a known problem as well. No wonder Ray English or whoever offered a new intake manifold design. I would love to see the new design.
(Auto motive engines sometimes have diluted engine oil due to bad piston rings and/or leaking injectors when engine is stopped.)
Some of the after market manifold designs ...does let the fuel/oil mix in to the crank case for better methanol & oil blending / "stiring",
and they also claim that the lubrication becomes better..
There is no fuel in the crank case in the 170R3,, if any it´s through the normal "blow by" as in every piston engine.

If you ever decide to invest in the aftermarket intake please post pics here. I would love to see how the problem was resolved.

With the intake runners open to the crankcase your 170 R3 is using the pumping action of the pistons to help stir the mix as well, albeit only inside the intake runners and in very close proximity to them. At least that's what it appears Saito was attempting to do, to stir the mix to help keep the oil in atomized suspension.

Their re-design is "only" making a central chamber in the manifold.
I don´t think I will ever spend that kind of money just because Saito have missed the customers expectations.
I am stubborn about things like that,, will probably spend many hours re-working the old one or even make a new.
But sure I will share any useful in sight I find along the way .

EATING MY HEART OUT! I for one like your homemade muffler, how effective is it compared to a stock muffler?
Excellent job Dave! Now I want a few!

Truth be told, I haven't run yet, it's 91 degrees here, I don't think it will happen today. I used a Saito baloney muffler header, the muffler was badly bent, I tried to straighten it but no can do.
Thanks all, I will try again.

Time. a little lack of ambition too. Since I spend so much of my time down here working every day, I have a hard time sitting here trying to do things not work related.
Oh man, do I ever get that. I've spent the last month in my shop building a complete cabinet set for a kitchen addition I'm building. The last thing I want to do at the end of my work day is to spend one single more minute in there. I have 3 planes that are 3 hours of work or less from ready-to-fly and they just sit there. I just don't have the energy I had in my youth.
I still have not completed the Corsair. All I need are a few stickers, a pilot and canopy. Can't find a pilot that fits, they are too big. Just an hour or two to complete. I am in no rush to finish my boat either, I got it several years ago and just started it this year. Just need to put the transom wood on and give it a sanding. I can wait though, its mostly for display, but plan to float and run it someday. I still have some servos to replace in the P-47, then give it a final balance and throws and can fly it once again. I like how it flies, just need to make sure i have better judgement so I miss the roof, but that area that was blocked before has been cleaned up and no longer need to thread the needle.
IIRC, your Corsair is the same as mine, a Top Flite 1/8 scale 62" WS F4U Gold Edition. There's lots of 1/7-1/8 Scale WWll pilot figures available online. Some of the nicest come from here:

Will a 10" pilot figure not fit?

He was belly shot and requires amputation from the ribcage down? Bummer, I hate when that happens!
I'd better check the floor to canopy height on mine before ordering a pilot figure. I built it to plan.
I can always stick Pamela in there. She says they're real, obviously a lie, no way those are authentic Oakleys.
