You can turn the muffler 90 degrees, put a deflector on the end and run it like a pitts.

Just cut a hole on one side of the cowl for the cylinder head and a hole on the other side for the muffler. 🤣

Could be worse, could a Zenoah. Hole in the bottom for the head, hole in one side for the carb and another in the other side for the exhaust.

And No Chinese Ignition. If there was a favorite gas two stroke. Ding ding ding they get the prize.
Cowls are ok if you don't have a round enough boat anchor. Singles have that "bb in a box car look. Lol

I really hate to cut into a nice looking cowl. They start looking more like bikinis than a cowl.

Another option is to use an inverted or upright (pitts?) muffler for those tight spaces. I used one on my Force One just to keep the model clean. They work well but boy are they loud.

I like scale aircraft so I shoot to see as little of the engine as possible.

Yeah me2, I opt for proper inlet baffling and air dams with smaller outlets vs hacking huge openings in cowls. I picked up a never flown giant scale CMpro Zero a while back for cheap. Had a Zenoah G40-something in it with monster cutouts in the cowl. The cowl really does look like bikini bottoms. Lol. I picked up DLE55RA For it and need to close off the cutouts on both sides of the round cowl. It's not going to be easy to make it look like it never happened.

I did look into Saitos for it but the cowl is too small to fit sufficiently sized twins or radials. This Zero will be my only 2-stroke powered warbird. I'm not terribly excited about that.

Wow! Nice job. I believe the rule is 2:1 or greater for outlet opening vs inlet opening.

I think I have enough. The inlet is basically through the fins and the outlets are nearly all around the back, should have plenty of exit air. Heres a better frontal view. All laser cut baffle.

Have you run it yet with the cowl?

When I first flew the P-40 w/fa-65 I had overheating issues. I had to keep run time on the ground to a minimum. I closed off the bottom inlet and drilled more holes on the bottom of the cowl and it was better but still eventually overheated. Now I have a huge opening on the bottom so hopefully the fa-56 will run cool.

In my experience that's a myth. I've had 3x outlet and still overheated. It depends on the shape and size of the cowl, where the inlets/outlets are located, inlet baffled/unbaffled, outlet dammed/undammed, exhaust type and location and of course, fuel type.

The outlet area on you P-40 has exit air dams, that's great, as long as the firewall doesn't block them from extracting hot air. Hard to see, but if your inlet openings don't have baffling directing cooler inlet air to ONLY your cylinder it is easy enough to fix. The 3mm/1/8" thick black sheets of "Craft Foam" they sell at dept stores works well and is CA safe.

I opened up the cowl flaps on the bottom and there is space between the firewall and cowl. However, no baffles. I should add some.

Once an inlet baffle is added your overheating issues will be a thing of the past. Using the craft foam make a 3 or 4 sided "tunnel" that directs air from the inlet openings directly to the cylinder. The cylinder only, because inlet air escaping to any other part of the engine is wasted.

I've used it for gassers and glow and haven't had an issue with melting yet. I don't allow it to touch the fins, no need.

You can also skin it cleany with the thin, self adhesive aluminum foil tape.
