Do you think I should confess I built one of these in this color with added gold pinstripes? I even used the included electric motor too.

ps, and maybe some totally blacked out lenses in case Jim posts piccys of his smelly black and gold two strokes

Dave, I think you and I should get together and send Pete a couple Harley shirts LOL

Sounds good Jim.

The Saito FG 11 cylinder I ordered last week was $78.00 plus shipping and tax for a total of $90.00, Today they're showing it as $113.00 plus shipping and tax. The valves last week were shown as $48.00 today at $67.35. I always opt for the Fed-X shipping. That's quite a change.

A piston is on the way and an RMJ ring. I should have a .66 in about a week.

27 mm FG 11 cylinder.

Yep, a couple of weeks ago the rear cam for my 200Ti was listed for $30-something, yesterday listed for $61. Glad I got it when I did.

Jim, I have an FA91 parts engine on the way here. May have a good cylinder for you!

That's a fun project. You'll have bronze valve seats too.

Did the 62 case have to be modified to accept the FG11 cylinder spigot? Or maybe the other around?

Here you go Lonnie:

I rigged up a 29 MM jig for the 3 jaw chuck, slid the cylinder over it, it was a silky smooth fit, then slid the ball bearing live center into the top cooling fins with just enough pressure to turn the cylinder. It rotated perfectly true. Now all I need is an FG 11/27mm piston.
Will be interesting to see how the compression height at the piston plays out.

Yes it will. I believe the stroke is the same between the FA62 and FG11 however the gudgeon pin to piston crown height may be different. Depends on whether or not Saito felt a reduction in CR was needed for the FG11.

With part prices taking one leap after another, I won't be ordering parts for Saitos like I had in the past. After market bearings is about all. Otherwise , used parts from donors only. I am also going back to making my own rings. If I don't have the part needed, I eill add that lump to the "donor engines" pile.
The makers and distributors are using parts prices to discourage people from rebuilding engines.

I will not be buying new Saitos, aside from what I can buy from individuals.

Sounds like it you buy a used one now and needs work you almost end up at the price of a new one with the parts needed. Might become harder to sell used saitos now. And to be able to get anything for it.

Nothing wrong with used Saitos every one I have was used by someone else. I have never purchased one new and at today's prices probably never will. Like anything treated right they will last a good long time and they are dependable. I'm not a hotshot pilot, I'll leave 3D for the movies and printers. If the engine stays running, keeps the airplane in the air, and has a bit of reserve for when my dumb thumbs kick in I'm golden.

Yep

Used Saitos are the way to go. Run em till they don't have the guts to go one more turn. Toss it on the pile. They can keep their new engines and especially the high $$ new parts.

Saitos: Buy em cheap!

The 72 and the 80 have the same 27mm piston diameter, different part # from the FG11 though. There might be more ways to play than I thought.
