RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hello Forum!
I have chosen to get a Saito 180 AAC for one of theses ARF's Chip CAP X 74" or Great planes Cap 232 79".
1. Where can I order the cheapest NEW SAITO 180?
2. What muffler and other equipment do I need for simple smoke system? Is a smoke system fairly easy to set up? Are there any links with pictures of a smoke system setup?
3. THANKS

I've bought several Saito engines from Mac. I've always gotten good prices.

I got the wrapper off a cigarette package today to set the valve lash on my Saito 82 and Saito 150, but this stuff is THIN [X(] Are you sure that it should be that tight ? That leaves almost no lash at all [sm=confused.gif]

I got it from a person who also covered the 3% PayPal fee. He was just in a hurry to get rid of it. I wasn't going to ask too many questions.

Mike:
When the FA-125 hit the market we had a discussion about the lack of a spring on the throttle barrel. As memory serves, it was Hobbsy who first mentioned it.
At that time I said it would seem to be proof of the excellent machine work done by Saito, allowing the fit of the barrel guide pin to be good enough to prevent barrel end play and the consequent mixture variation.
After consideration I changed my view. There if, after all, always wear between two surfaces rubbing. When the wear has loosened the match the mixture variations will show up. An added spring will slow the wear by preventing the barrel from hammering on the pin from normal vibration, I think a spring should be added before the wear becomes excessive.
I do not have an FA-125 yet, so I don’t know if one can be fitted easily. I do have one on the way, when it gets here I’ll check, and report.
Bill.

Mike- that may start a rub pattern in the plastic throttle arm if you use wire that is too thin. I use z bends on the throttle arm instead of a clevis. Thought I would mention that. My .72 was showing a groove in the plastic, but that took a year and almost 160 flights.
The Perry meet sounds like a good one and is close to me. A buddy bought a new .82 for me from a hobby shop dealer that had a booth there last year. It was $230.
I just bought a new Saito 1.25 for $300 at the hobby shop. I'm using these guys from now on. Before they opened up I would check between Chief Aircraft and Southeast RC in Florida. Those guys swap off and on with having some of the best prices on Saitos. Chief has been beating SE RC for a few months now on most Saitos. I've bought from SE RC, but not from Chief.

Enter your e-mail and you'll get an immediate reply of all their specials. Saito’s are always in the e-mail. The 125 is about $15 less through the e-mail specials, postage included. Read carefully how to apply the e-mail prices or you won't get the special price.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
A question regarding FA56 bearings: I need replacement berings, but Paul McIntosh does not list the 2RS (double sealed) front bearing or the ZZ(double shielded) rear bearing in his recommended replacement set. While I like his WAAAAY lower prices over Boca, Boca lists the bearings identical to those in my engine. Will no shields on the rear bearing and only shields on the front be satisfactory, or should I spend the extra money and buy as per original?
Having never had a Saito apart before, I don't know what they require, but the sealed front seems like a very good idea to me.

Hello
I am getting a saito 180 in the near future? What is the difference in : Muffler Inverted Pitts with Smoke Saito 180 4-stroke, Slimline and the one without smoke. I will like to get a smoke system but not at first, so can I get the muffler w/smoke to start out? Is there a noticeable difference in the 2 without a smoke system? THANKS

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey guys,
I have several Saito's and love them. I picked up a used F-100 to add to my collection. I went to put in a brand new glow plug in it before installing on a .60 sized Twist, and found that the glow plug hole was severly stripped. What is the best way to get this fixed. Should I send it in to a service center? Anyone been through this scenerio?
Thanks in advance.
Adam

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I'm new to RC and I was wondering about tuning on a saito 170 radial. I have 3 saitos now, 2 125s and a 72 and I love all three of them. I have been eyeing a saito 170 radial on this website and was just wondering about the tuning on a radial, low and high end.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The actual tuning of the engine is little different from the other engines you have.
There are three glow plugs. You will need to wire them to one terminal and use an extra capacity starter or have three individual starters.
The 170 is probably the most popular of the Saito radials.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Being that they are 3 .56s may help as the 56 is a great little engine. I have a new 170R3, but haven't cranked it yet. The high and low end needle valves are like your basic Saitos. It looks like it will tune like your .72, but you may have to tweak the settings to keep the bottom right cylinder firing if that becomes a problem. Some people have said that the #3 cylinder *may* drop if the tuning is off. It doesn't seem to be a big problem from what I've heard and I'm not bothered by it.
http://www.midmad.com/images/airplan...to170R3_Hi.wmv is a site with a 170R3 running on the test stand. It is about 2-3 minutes long. I liked it so much that I downloaded the file. Watching this will probably make giving your credit card number for one a whole lot easier!!! The engine is really something to look at, and while I haven't run mine yet, I'm glad that I bought it.
