phillip, have you checked your clunk to see if it may be stuck to the front of the tank? this will allow for it to go lean on takoff but not on the stand

Im running perry pumps from now on, my saito burped the other day in the verticle, good thing I was about 40 feet up.
It also makes my .72 easier to adjust, it stays good just about all the time no matter which fuel, just a little high speed tweak ,and we are off. I cant afford a bog or quitter. I think they are bout 25 bucks, cheap insurance, saves time too..
my opinion only of course.

Perry makes two different pumps, which one are you using? I think one uses crankcase or exhaust pressure pulses and the other operates on engine vibration. I've never had one.
My engine ran great for 6 plus gallons of fuel. Actually, it still does except for a brief period during takeoff.[sm=confused.gif]

To William Robison: I noticed that the SAITO 220, 125, & 100 have similar cam gear housings, different from the rest of the series of engines. The crank cases of those three engines must also be different (other than in size) as a result. Right? Any particular reason? Is the rest of the engine line going that way too? The SAITO 220, 125, & 100 are amongst the newest engines brought out, are they not? thx. Jim

I am reluctant to open this topic, but here goes: On take off fuel is "rammed" against the back of the tank by acceleration force. This creates a high pressure area at the clunk forcing fuel towards the lower pressure area (the engine), so your engine should not go lean on takeoff but actually go slightly rich.

Sorry, the force that acts on the fuel in the tank also acts on the column of fuel in the hose, and in an equal manner. Net effect of these forces is zero.
What will affect the fuel mix is the accelleration, in exactly the same menner as pointing the nose up. And that has a leaning effect, not richening.

The screw that holds the carburetor to the crankcase, thereby keeping the intake manifold plugged into the cylinder head, vibrated loose and my carb detached itself from the engine. No damage done, landed safely.
Since I had to take the engine out to fix it, I took the opportunity to install a Bru-Line filter and velocity stack on the little engine. Just reporting in, that the engine runs as reliably as ever with it in place.

Hi Jim, if the engine cuts off without any rise in rpm, then the low end is set too lean. Turn it CCW 1/16th at a time until you get a slight rise in rpm before the engine cuts off. If the rpm goes up and stays there for a while before cutting off, the low end is too rich. Remember to check your high end again. Do you use a tachometer for tuning? I would recommend it with any four stroke as it is relatively difficult to tune by ear compared to a 2C engine.

The problem may be that I've been turning the low speed 1/4 to 1/2 turns. This next weekend I'm going to tune this motor until it runs right or I wear the screwdriver out! He He He! Thanks for the help. I'll report my results when I get it figured out.

Jimmy Hoffa, maybe its the loose nut behind the umm.......screwdriver! .......Ok guys. Heres the scoop. Hoffa flys with me at my local club. THe guy knows how to take care of his stuff. He knows the difference between lean and rich just as I do with a Saito 125 and 82. I have my own tuning problems with a 125. but since the crash, I have been running in circles with my top end.

DANG. That was QUICK.. I just took apart my 100 and put ceramic bearings in it just because.. It seems more powerful.. Or at least smoother now... LOL.. I need to order another set for my buddy Dusty.. that way we can change his when it gets dirty.. I say that. That is what it felt like when you turned it over and it was putting out Rusty looking oil.. I knew it was time... I have run A mix of castor and Synth. and it still is just a matter of time for the new type saitos.. At least the 100s for some reason.. I have always put the engine down in storage.. But anyways. It's done and runs like a champ!!
