RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hello,
I have a 180 GK and 2 100 Saitos. My question is: On an Ultra Stick 120, the 180 will be mounted sideways, whick puts the needle valve perpendicular in relation to the tank. Should the tank be mounted as high as possible right behind the firewall, or is it not an issue, considering how close it is to the engine?
Thank you for your time.

The US 120 is just fine as delivered with your Saito side mounted. Here's a couple pics of mine - yes, it's the older, heavy version.
Bill.

Thanks, Bill for the quick reply. I'm putting the 120 lite version together and the instruction manual must be for the older version, since a lot of the pictures don't quite match what I have. For instance, the throttle cable hole in the firewall won't even work where they show it should be. Did you use the rod that was supplied, or switch to a cable?

Look more closely at the second picture above. The throttle rod comes out the side of the fuselage under the rear end of the "Hangar9" sign. Here's another picture giving a better view - yes, it uses a ball end.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I have a Saito question, club guys.
What is an appropriate size fuel tank for a 1.50 running in a 1/4-scale Giles 202? I forgot to keep track of fuel consumption when I had it on the break-in stand. I like to fly for about 10-12 minutes with enough reserve for a couple of circuits if necessary. 16 oz? 18 oz? I have a 20-oz. tank but it just looks TOO BIG...
Thanks for any suggestions,
desmobob

Bob:
Rule of thumb for a Saito on 15% fuel is one ounce per minute per cubic inch at full throttle. So your FA-150 will have an approximate fuel rate of 1.5 ounces per minute at full power. At lower power settings the rate will be lower.
In "Normal" sport flying a 12 ounce tank should give your ten minutes with a margin. If you usually run at a higher setting increase the tank size accordingly. I see no way you would not be able to get your ten minutes from a sixteen ounce tank regardless.
You wont get your fuel rate this low unless the engine is adjusted properly.
Bill.

I think I'll play it safe and install a 16 ounce tank.

Hello all in the Saito club-
I'm putting a Saito 100 on an Ultra Stick .60 and wondering what might be a good prop for the crow and hovering. Any recommendations?

Thanks proptop-
I'm just using Sig 10%nitro, 20% oil-1/2 castor/-1/2 syn. It's always worked good for my 2 and 4 stroke engines.

Still sounds like the top end (HS needle) is lean. The LS could be too, but if it idles nicely and answers the throttle cleanly it wont be too far lean.
As I said, iopen the HS a bit and try it, then a bit more, etc. If it wont go to full, and it's not blubbering, just about has to be lean. You might also check the fuel hoses and ports, be sure there's not some small bits or leaks there.

I just got a Saito 1.20 that has had 2 liters through it, I'm thinking I need to keep it rich for at least another 3/4 gallons, right?

Tim:
There's no set amount of fuel to run the engine in. Some will be ready to fly quickly, others will take longer.
With the engine running on the stand take it to full throttle, lean it to peak. Have your finger ready to chop the throttle. If the engine will hold peak rpm for 30-40 seconds without sagging it's ready to fly.
When you fly it don't hold full throttle for too long at a time, and when setting the HS needle instead of the 100-200 rpm rich drop, give it at least 400 rpm.
As you continue to fly the engine you can slowly work your way to the 200 rpm drop, you can judge the time by the idle settings. When you get the reliable 2000 rpm or so idle, the engine should be ready to go. I don't recall one that wasn't ready to scream with an hour to an hour and a half on it.
Even then, the engine isn't as good as it will be after four or five hours, it will just keep getting better.
Do check the valve clearance every 1/2 hour or so for the first couple hours. once you find it's holding steady you can increase the interval. Still not a bad idea to pull the rocker covers before each flight session and douse the rockers with oil. Use your after run oil, it works fine.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Much information William, I like the one on the AAC stuff, or the longevity and how everythings made.
If the 100 was plenty power for the 90 Funtana then the 125 will be amazing, and I can't imagine one with a 180!
Oh, the 100 that was on my Funtana, the wings folded on the plane. I was doing a snap at less then 1/4 throttle and the left wing came off right at the first spar after the sheeting. Anyone else had thsis problem? I'm sending plane back to Hangar 9 hopefully for a replacement.
The fuse went strait in, but I couldn't tell of any damage to the engine. I just took a a toothbrush and cleaned the fins and everything inbetween. As far as any other damage, I can't tell of a bent shaft or anything. I'll see when I hopefully put the 100 on a Funtana #2 from Hangar 9. I don't know how this happened, not from stress, I WAS ONLY at 1/4 throttle.
I still love that Saito though!

All:
Well, folks, I was intending to cut off the numbers at 100, and that was rfan_1. Then, before I put him on the list and announdec a stop to it, along came swede-RCU as number 101 on the list.
Guess we'll just have to keep going for a while. The complete up-to-date lists are still on page 4 of this thread. Or if you just want an easy jump click [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3306814/anchors_3338246/mpage_4/key_/anchor/tm.htm#3338246]here[/link] to see them, scroll down a little way.

Well cr@p. Busted the pressure nipple on the muffler last weekend. From the research it looks like saito doesnt sell the individual pressure tap, true? The reason I wanted a saito replacement is because I will eventually use this saito 1.20 and the other three I have on a four engine bomber. The dubro's I see have a MUCH smaller diameter hole for the tap. Is that going to change the head pressure enough to make a difference between the engines? Is the hole size a non-issue and should I just change all of the engines to use the same aftermarket pressure tap? And no, I dont want to use a fuel pump, saito's dont need them.
