RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ehillman, I use a flex pipe on both an .80 Saito and a 1.00 Saito. they are a tad louder, but the exhaust note is more throaty. Exhaust pressure to the tank is the only consideration. I tapped my pipes where the elbow screws into the flex pipe, it seems to work okay, but the exhaust pressure there is going to be lower than in a muffler, because the gas flow in the smaller diameter pipe is faster, meaning lower pressure. My .80 is inverted, and the 1.00 is sideways, and both run fine.
Tony Gag Jr---the 125 is the same size as the 1.00. The cylinder might be a tad fatter due to increased bore, but overall dimensions are same.

Sold my IC-737 and bought an FT-847. What was I thinking? <G>
Lots of hams in model airplanes. The other things we share in common are musicianship, computers, guns and machining/welding, just to name a few.
Now, if I could just find my wooden welding rods. I have to install the horizontal stab on my latest creation.

Flex extensions for 125 and 150 Saitos.
We use sealtite flexible electrical conduit at my shop. The 3/8" size has a 1/2" ID. I slit the outer covering and peeled it off. Next I ground the barb off the end of the Saito muffler. I used JB Weld applying a small amount inside the flexible conduit and some on the out side of the muffler. It fits like it was made for it and is very flexible.
I'm going to use the extension on th GP Chipmunk I'm building. I'll let everyone know how the JB Weld holds up to the heat.

Okay, now for a regulator question. The Iron Bay and Cline regulators have been mentioned on this thread many times and seem to solve many fuel problems.
Which one seems to be the most trouble free? I'm leaning towards the Iron Bay because it can be up to 12" away from the engine where as the Cline has to be no more than 1" from the engine (according to the installation instructions). The Iron Bay lends itself to more mounting options.
All opinions welcome.

Get the block over to Clarence Lee. See his ad in the back of MAN. $12.50 post paid. I sent him one from Wisconsin and had it back in a week. Costs a little more if you send him the whole engine.

I'll never understand why businesses with webpages make it so difficult to order from them. The one thing that I would have on my business webpage is a big flashing banner stating "Place Order Here".
Mr. Lee must have a collection of old helicoils that he bought when the cost was much less expensive. Ten kits cost over $100. I don't see how he can be making a profit, unless he is buying from a much less expensive source for helicoils.

A time cert is about a dollar, but the kit for each size used to be like $60.00. It only take about 15 minutes to do the job if the cylinder is removed. He has to drill the exsisting hole bigger, and that bit also countersinksfor the lip of the insert. Then he has to tap the threads for the incert to thread into. Then he has to use another tool to install the insert which he will locktite in place. If he's still doing it, I will remove the cylinder and send it to him. I didn't know that the old Saito didn't have a steel insert until today. Bummer...

Oh, your in the UK... My antenna is pretty low for that action. lol I sure hope that Clarence is still doing the inserts. I'll send that cylinder off tomorrow if he is. I thought all the Saito's had steel inserts until today. That 80 is pretty old though... Oh well... I learned a valuable lesson today. lol

Channel 1 ? Huh ?
I was thinkin it would be cool to start a evening RC Plane net on 80 meters. There used to be one many years ago. Maybe we can start up a new one. Maybe on 3.815.00

I wish I had room for a Rhombic antenna, then I could join you. I don't think my inverted vee stands much of a chance of making a log-in from northwest Georgia, even running the full legal limit, which I can't do. I do have a single 3-500Z amp (1 kw). The extra 500 watts probably wouldn't make a difference anyway. I do have an old Butternut HF6V vertical. That might make it out that far.
Hmm, maybe an East coast and a West coast net would be in order?

It takes 2500 to 3000 watts (by at least one member of the conversation) to chew the rag on 75m. It takes that much for one of the members to make everyone else (not in your conversation) on adjacent channels to keep their distance? They'll move up next to you if you don't.
It would be neat to talk models on the air again. Haven't done that since computer mailboxes and then the internet came along.
Might not be as successful now that RCUniverse has become so popular?
I've been taking a Saito 60T apart for new bearings. There are four main bearings, two cam bearings, and a idler bearing. Seven in all. Tough to get them out of the blind pockets. The worst bearing for corrosion was the front cam bearing.

I just have a Yaesu FL 2100B. so I only run about 400 watts, and my inverted V is only 18 feet at the feedpoint. Im a very lazy Ham. lol
I called Clarence, and spoke to his wife. He charges $17.50 to install the insert and mail it back. Im happy to find that out, and will be sending him the cylinder to him pronto.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
the exhaust tip on my muffler of my mag 61 4-stroke turns freely but will not tighten up by hand. is this normal ? it seems like this would cause improper back pressure, causing the engine to run poorly. it seems to run fine on the ground, but in the air, the engine seems pretty weak. would JB Weld stand up to the heat of a hot muffler...thanks
