Stiffe:

Your FA-182T should have come with two exhaust stubs. Do you want to extend the stubs, or install longer pipes? You have several options.

Saito supplies flexible exhaust pipes to fit all the mid block engines, your FA-182T is in this class. The plain pipe is 6.5" long, part number SAI182TD1111, it sells for $40.79. The pipe with a pressure tap is part number SAI182TD1112, also 6 1/2" long, selling for $40.79 also.

These pipes tend to crack and break if not supported, so you will also want the bracket set, part number SAI300T99A for $8.25.

If these pipes aren't what you want you can use any of the 12 mm exhaust parts, including both straight and curved head pipes along with either the new style cast mufflers or one of the few straight machined aluminum mufflers still available, order the muffler for the FA-80 to get it.

Hope this helps, if more questions please ask.

Bill.

Hello Bill !

Have done my crank. Now it´s "straight" and run within a hundred of a millimeter measure´d on prop shaft just before thread start, you think it´s good enough ? The rocker pedestal´s, could only save one, is also done Here I have to make a small ring to replace the damaged rim who fit in the grove a´round the valve guide as seen on pic´s. The second one I failed to repair, try´d with plastic metal but when I try´d to make the 2mm thread for the cover bolt the plastic metal went off.

Feeling much better now waiting for ordered spare parts, then assemble and test run.

Jerry:

Don't be thinking you're foolish for not having gotten the bracket sooner, it's a relatively new offering. Saito has always suggested support for the flex pipes, their offering a ready made bracket is recent. If you've not had the flex pipes too long Horizon may replace the broken one at no cost, and you can pay for the bracket at the same time.
-------------
Chrille:

Stick the crank in the case with the bearings and nothing else. Mount the case on/in a stand and turn the crank from the back end. If you see no run-out with your bare eyes it's fine. You might be surprised how good your eyeball is for that. If there is visible run-out pull the shaft and finish straightening it.

I wouldn't try to fix a rocker pedestal, they're just too cheap to risk an in flight failure of the repair. Even the one with just the centering lip broken off - the pair is less than $40 here, and you have to get one, just go ahead and get both. Do note please, that the intake and exhaust pedestals are not the same. Further, if the only damage were the holes for the cover screws the holes can be drilled through and tapped, then longer screws would work saving the expense. But with the centering ring broken it's better to replace them.

I don't know how your parts supply is there, if you have problems getting them let me know, we can probably work something out for international shipment.

Just looked at your first picture again, more closely this time. I see you've made a sleeve to serve as the locating part. If it's a good tight fit it should be fine. Be sure it's not too deep, if it presses too hard on the outer lip of the guide it could distort things.

Club Saito!!!! I just this minute discovered the "club" and I am IN guys!!! I have been flying Saito since I started in the hobby in the 80's. SO nice , I never even gave any other 4 stroke engines a chance! Why , when the Saito has everthing I want in an engine.

currantly .56 ( been on 6 planes, now on my 3rd 4* ) nice nice nice soooo reliable and that smooth low Idle ...

.91 on a Spacewalker.....Never Fails!
.82 on a Twist....new engine and plane....painless breakin....nice and sounds great like they should

Bill !

Yes I´ve a tight fit and the deep is measured the same as before with no press on the outer lip. About the spare parts in Sweden I think the price as vell as the supply is good. A rocker pedestal cost ca. 13 USD and a full gasket set 40 USD. so it is not for the price I repair, its a challenge. But I will not take any risk with a bad repair. By the way do you have the price for the crank "just for fun"

Good night and thank´s for your suport

I HAVE 50, 56, 80, (2) 91 GK, (2) 100 GK, 120, 150 GK, 180 GK

I LOOK THAT THE 150 IS MORE POWERFUL THAT THE OS 140 AND 160 2 STROKES, THE 100 IS AS POWERFULL AS MANY 120 2 STROKES IS VERY IMPORTANT TO FIND THE CORRECT PROPELLER AND NOT TO OVER RPM. MI STEARMAN HAS A 91 AND 14-8 MASTER PROPELLER @ 8400 RPM IT WEIGTS 10 POUNDS AND FLIGTH NICE, IT HAS SIMULATED AS SAME SAITO 91 THE 6 DUMMY CYLINDERS. MI GREAT LAKES SPECIAL TURNS A MASTER CLASIC PROP. 18-8 @ 8600, MY PLANE WEIGHT 17 POUNDS AND IS TOO MUCH POWER. BOTH PLANES PARTICIPATED AT TOP GUN

SAITO ARE THE FINNEST AND POWERFULL ENGINES AND SOUND BEAUTIFULL [>:]

Thank you for your fast reply. I think it best for me to use the flexible exhaust pipes. Because I need longer muffler.
Thank you

Bill, I don't want to throw this thread off-topic, but the recent comments about flexible headers and mufflers has me thinking...

Do you (or any other readers) have any suggestions for where I might find design information for custom-fit mufflers, for scale applications? Websites or books?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob:

Keeleo Creations (don't have the URL) will build an exhaust to your design. Alternately, you can buy the gland nut alone from Horizon and make whatever you would like.

Thanks Bill,
I'd prefer to make my own... that's why I was looking for the design information/calculations etc. The info on the Gland nut is a good place to start...

I was hoping that there would be a website or a book with typical (and effective) muffler designs with some design rules that could be followed.

Again, I don't want to get this thread off-topic.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob:

Off topic? I don't think so. This thread is pretty much all things Saito, that would seem to include the exhaust to fit a Saito engine. Or I think so anyway.

You'd use the gland nut to fit a tubing header, going into a larger can that was supported externally. Wouldn't do to hang much weight on. For anything heavy you'd want one of the steel head pipes with the locking nut, you could cut the pipe and weld whatever on it. Still best with an additional support if there's much weight to it of course.

With a tubing header a silicone coupler could be used going into an isolated can, and then the actual exhaust pipes could be run where ever you want them.

Do remember the exhaust temperature is too high to use the normal silicone couplers, there are tan colored ones that will hold up fairly well, still have to replace them every few months.

Let us know (with pictures) how/what you do.

Bill.

Thanks, BIll. It will be a while before I get to that aspect of it, but I'll keep the thread posted on what I do... I'll keep that high temperature in mind.

What props could I try on my 100 for my Funtana? I have a 15x6 right now. Any other prop that would increase performance, like trust or anything else.

I love all those plane gerardog. They look marvelous.

Thanks

I think Club Saito needs to be on the main page like the glow engine or gas engine forum.
