Thanks for the tip, I have always gone with the ole " break it in with the stock plug then change to OS F. Your right , the Saito SS sure does great for me, Im not sure if its the same Saito plug I have gotten in the past years with my new engines. I just dont know why the replacement recommendation has been standard proceedure for so many.
Anyway, Im ordering a few of the SS plugs with my next Horizon order.

The Saito SS plug is also good for some 2 strokes. I have used them in Evolution engines. A buddy uses them too in his Evos. They run a little bit hotter than the OS 8 which costs more.

Hello saito lovers. I just purchased a brand new "old" 65. Can anybody tell me when the stopped making the 65 and went to the 62? Thanks.

The .62 was officially introduced in Nov 06.

The .65 production was discontinued in June 07 along with the .50 and .80. These were discontinued here in the U.S. before this date. The .45 production was discontinued in May 05. There is no mention of the .30 production being stopped, so it is most likely only dropped by Horizon for the U.S. market.

Hey guys, anyone know who might have the Saito SS plugs in stock? ( Horizon has a late Sept eta ) and my LHS only knows OS plugs for the four stroke engines ( but they do sell Saito!>?)

I don't know who would have those SS's in stock, but you would be OK using an OS Type F plug.

Yep, got those OS F 8's ! They have been fine for years. Ill get a few of the Saito glow plugs when I get a "round toit" (,which are also on b/o... )

Okay Saito experts tell me how far can I extend/move the carb assembly away from the crankcase on a Saito 170 r3? I have a special mount situation I am working with. The carb will need to be placed inside a nacelle.

I just got a line on a Iron Bay Regulator locally. Will put it in tomorrow.
Have a couple of questions If you guys dont mind answering.

1. The minimum hose length on my setup (closest I can mount it) Is 3" away.Is this Okay?
2. Being there is a check valve now going on ,on what used to be my fill vent (pressure tap) I take it I need to do a 3 line setup?
3. Put the needle settings back to break in position? Or is it going to need more then that?
This is on a Saito 180 with a Slimline Pitts mounted inverted.Running the last gallon of Coolpower MV 15/18 through and switching to Omega 15% The engine has run rich its entire life (3gal.) as I have never been able to lean it out properly.
Also changing to a new Glow plug tonight. Although I do not see anything wrong with the original, gives really good idle ,but Ill take the advice of the experienced ones

Michael, it needs to be closer than that, it is a demand regulator and needs to read the demand at the spraybar in the carb, closer the better. Here is away to mount it close.

Hobbsy, Thanks for that pic. Can the spraybar be rotated? Right now the Pitts exhaust is hogging all that space. Also can the regulator be mounted sort of floating like that? If so I think I have some options. but have to worry about the heat from the exhaust.

The regulator can be floating, no problem. I try to keep the nipple on the output of my IB regulator about .5cm from the input nipple on the carb. As Hobbsy said, the closer the better.

I'm not any kind of expert. You most likely have a much better manual than my photocopied sheets with poor diagrams, etc.

It looks like you will have to solve an o ring seal issue if you move the carb. Also, I recall reading something about the single carb using a air passage system to get the mixture correctly to all 3 cylinders. I know I saw something about that but can't recall where that was. I'll use the word 'tuned' for lack of a better term to describe the manifold system to the cylinders. I think the mixture travels down 3 swirling manifolds internally that are timed to get the right mixtures there correctly.

Like I said, I'm not an expert on doing something like this on the 170R3, but I would expect problems.

Hey guys .Two saitos here 72 an 91. My 72 is running a little weird. Its in a funtanna x 50 with a 14x4 prop. When i go from half throttle to full in a slight climb it really never revs up. If i go into a dive an gas on it then it will run up to wot an hold it. At one time you could hold this thing up an it would take off vertical. But not anymore. What can i do to get that power back. I'm running 15%coolpower an hanger 9 4 stroke plug. The engine has about three gallons of fuel throgh it.....thanks

I would check the valves for the proper lash first, then I would try leaning the high end one click at a time, and see if the power comes back. You may be a little on the rich side.

I have lashed the valves. I will start leaning it then. I was thinking it should be a little richer cause it has no smoke trail on two stroke fuel. Should it have a nice blue trail

My .72 was always too rich if it left a smoke trail, with both HS and LS settings. It likes an APC 13x6.
