RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I'll try that. I run fuel pumps on most of my other engines and like the consistency. Hence I was thinking about installing one on the 72 and was wondering if Saito's fuel pump (the one that operates off of crank case pressure) would work on it. Has anyone tried this?

Put a little short piece of fuel line over the needle valve where it will push up against the needle valve body and seal the leak of the O ring.

The 80 has been discontinued by Horizon and it's now hard to find the part on their site but here it is. . . .

You may want to bookmark this link but here are all the Saito 80 parts that Horizon stocks . . . . .
http://search.horizonhobby.com/index...d=1169E563BCE1
There are also parts from some other Saito engines that will fit on the "80"

I have two FA 82's, both installed upright, what is the best way to put ARO into the engines?

The crankcase vent is a brass nipple, on the bottom of the crankcase, just a little bit behind the prop. That is where to squirt ARO into your engine. I use a syringe, but a small squeeze bottle will work too. Just squirt your ARO into the crankcase, and spin the engine to distribute it.

Finding parts for older Saitos . . . .
It would be nice to have the original manual. But in this case the "80" is in the current manual. Many Saito engines use parts intended for other size Saitos.
Saito parts have a numbering system with Horizon the is the Saito part number preceded by "SAI". The first digit of the Saito part number indicates the engine it was originally designed for. The remaining numbers indicate things like a crankshaft is the number "23". There may be a letter following the 23 if there have been design changes in the part. So a SAI6523B would be the later model "longer" crankshaft for a Saito 65. The 80 would be a SAI8023B .
When searching in the Horizon site you need to "left click" after a complete data entry. The programmer didn't set the database up to accept a "carriage return" after a data search entry like on the Tower site.
The wild card icon to use with a data search on the Horizon site is the "*", Therefore to find all the parts intended originally for the Saito 80 would be "SAI80*" .
Keep in mind that all the valve covers for the 45 through 100 and 125 engines use the Saito 50 valve cover. Likewise these same engines all use the Saito 50 GK venturi extension etc. This is where an original manual (parts list) would come in handy?

I use a very old oilcan. the kind with a bell shaped bottom and spout that tapers to a point. Just plug the spout imto a piece of fuel tube connected to the breather nipple and turn the engine over a few times. It will pull the oil right in. Then just flip the engine a few times or spin it with a starter to distribute the oil.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I was recently breaking in my new Saito 150 and noticed that the engine firewall area was covered with a clean honey colored oil.
This oil was coming from the crankcase nipple located in the backplate. After I put a piece of fuel tubing on this nipple and ran it out the bottom of the cowl, my engine compartment and firewall are very clean after running the engine. I am very happy with my new saito 150.
Just a few changes in the engine design I have noticed and thank Saito for incorporating into theie engine:
Carbuerator intake now has a velocity stack.
Carbuerator intake stack is now mounted by an adjustible swivel attachments very much like the exaust.
These two changes might seem un-noteworthy, but the fact is that on my particular application the adjustible (swivel) intake stack is what made it possible for me to mount my engine at the proper location for an outstanding appearance with the cowl and spinner backplate are attached. Thanks Saito!!

This is a very early 1990 high compression 1.50, all you mentioned has been true from day one on the 1.50. This one was $449.00 back then, I think they're about a 100 bucks less now.

Thanks Hobbsy,
My last Saito engine was a Saito 100, and did not have velocity stack or swivel intake. I thought the changes were recent design changes but obviously I was wrong. Nevertheless I am a Saito fan and Saito performance rocks!!!

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I just got my new (used) .82 in the mail, it's a little oily and dirty, but seems to be in good shape. I'm going to pop the back plate to make sure there's no rust. Call me lazy, but I don't have time to read all 363 pages of this thread again, so I'll ask a question that's been answered before. I remember hearing about possible intake manifold problems due to the plastic back plate, and I remember seeing someone with a "fix", maybe an aluminum spacer or something. Can anyone tell me exactly what the problems with the plastic backplate are, and the fix if they remember. Thanks.

Rexracer- I think those are limited to the .72 and not your engine. At least, I haven't heard of any problems. You could aggravate things by taking the manifold out of the cylinder and cutting the o ring when you reinsert it. On this engine, it is probably best to just fly it.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The pictures in the post I linked to below actually show the difference in the backplates better than in the first one I posted.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4583153
I have not seen any 82's with the older style backplate myself, and I do not know for certain if any were sent out with the old style. I was just going on what Bill wrote.
