yes, i am going to remove them and mic them. then get vxb bearings to get me a set of abec 5's to fit. i don't think i will make the ceramic investment in this engine.

Hey fellow Saito guys, I'll be checking in from Utah in a few hours, leaving Dulles this PM, my son already informed me I have to put new frets on his Gibson Gospel guitar and re assemble a couple of motorcycle engines. Honda 500 singles, they have a bad habit of the cam chain tensioner coming loose and beating up the rest of the engine. I'll just think of them as really big Saitos.

I just picked up another Saito .45 MK2 new in box! I'll have to see how this one stacks up against the one I already have...I'm a little embarassed. The reason the numbers on my .45 looked so good is the prop wasn't what I thought it was. I have a MA 12x5 and a MA 12x4 and I thought the 4 was on my Funtana. Turns out the 5 is on the plane, and I tested the engine with the 12x4, so 10,300 rpm peak isn't as good as it sounded. I have 2 weeks off for the holidays, and nothing really planned, so I'll be doing some testing on both .45's the .82, and maybe even the 1.80. I'd like to get the 1.80 dialed in with the Cline. I think I'll get a MA 18x6 classic for it. That should go well with the Super Stearman. Since I now have 2 45's, maybe it's time to try a twin? Any ARF suggestions? I tend to like "scale" planes, but I don't have a whole lot of hours in the air, so I don't know if I should chance my first thought, which was a P-38. Thoughts?

If you are a low time pilot, I would forget about the P-38 for now. Save it for later when you have a chance of enjoying it.

When Saito comes out with a later addendum letter on a part there is a change, however, its often unnoticeable to us

I have a hog bipe I am finishing and I want to put a Saito GK on it. I figured if the engine is going to stick out it might as well look good. Would an 82 be to small? Not looking for any kind of unlimited vertical but I want to fly the plane and have fun with it. Or should I go bigger?

I would put a 91 in it. That is kind of a draggy plane and the extra horses would not hurt it at all. You can always throttle back a bigger engine, but you can never throttle up a small engine.

Thanks all, and best wishes to all for the Holidays. I was just watching the weather channel and its 50 at home in Va. and 7 here below the Wasatch mountains. If I had a wish for Saito Claus it be for a Saito 4.50 radial, I can't think of a relative who could manage it.

I have built and flown a Hog Bipe with an O.S. .61 two stroke. It's a really good plane and I would recommend the the Saito .91S. That Hog likes power and I think the Saito .82 will under power it if you intend to really put it thru all the maneuvers the plane is able to do for you. I find that the .61 two stroke (which is the maximum engine for it per Sig) is just adequate to do what I do wth it. The Hog Bipe will handle the Saito .82 just fine but you'll eventually want more power. Now I am building a regular Astro Hog and will put a Saito 100 in it. Good luck with it.

Rk,I've put a 100 Saito GK in my hog bipe and it is wonderful. Not unlimited but climbs good. Balances real well, too. I think you'll really like it. Don't under power it.Tom

After having trouble getting this well used Saito .45MK2 to idle, I decided to pull the carb and see if I could find a problem. At the least it needs all new O-rings. It's got to be sucking air with how loose the intake pipe fits in the o-rings. According to the alpha codes on Horizon, the parts for SAI40MK* look to fit.
While I had the carb off, I decided to pop the back plate since I had detected a little roughness when I turned the engine by hand. Glad I did. Lot's of rust. Looks like I need bearings, and some serious clean-up. I'll be trying out my $3.98 crock pot I guess. I went to RC-bearings and they don't have a listing for the .45 MK2. They do have a 45 c/s. Can anyone tell me which bearings I need. I'll probably go with the plain steel bearings on this engine, since it looks to have a lot of use (and abuse) and I probably won't be able to get a piston or rod if something major fails.
