Hi all! I have an older Saito 72 that WAS running well. I'm running it with a 13x6 3-bladed prop at approx 10K rpm on 20/20 syn fuel. It started leaving a black residue from the exhaust (the last three or four flights). I understand that this is likely the result of metal to metal shaving. Where are the likely instances of contact and what are the likely parts that will need to be replaced? Has too much damage already occurred? Is there a manual that will guide me step by step on the engine breakdown and rebuild process?

Previously on transition there was plenty of white smoke that cleared to a light smoke as FT was reached. Now, without any adjustment in excess of half a turn to the previous setting on the HS it wants to die as it approaches FT. Was it too lean? If not too lean, what was the likely cause?

Any and all guidance will be appreciated.

Hi everyone. I received a GP P6-E Hawk for Christmas, and I am trying to pick out a four stroke for it. The manual recommends a 19.5-23cc four stroke. Its flying weight is listed at 14-16lbs. I was looking at the Saito 125, coming in on the low end of that range. Also, the Saito 150 comes in at 25cc and weighing about 8oz more, from what I could tell.

The 125 seems right, but I saw two instances last year at my field where an underpowered plane got off the ground (barely) and then went right back down, badly. I don't want that to happen here, but I'm wondering if the 150 is too much or too heavy in this case. Thanks in advance.

The 150 will work well. It doesn't weigh much different than the old Saito 120

GP lists this as a 13-14 lb model, so the 1.50 is probably the best bet. I wouldn't hesitate flying one with a 1.25, but would be ready for it to fly at scale speeds with it. The 1.50 would do it better.

Thanks for the reply. That's where I was leaning, but thought I'd get some input before I took the plunge.

Does anyone know if there is a Saito rep? I am replacing a spray bar in a Saito 100 and am not sure where the small o ring goes...also does it matter how the hole is positioned ?? Also is there a diagram anywhere on line that may show an expanded drawing of the engine?
Thanks Gene

The slot faces the intake valve. It must be as directly towards the valve as is possible or your mid range will suffer.

There are several O-rings that come with the gasket set but only one that comes with the spray bar

The one that comes with the spray bar is rather skinny. After you have the spray bar in place, the O-ring goes over the spray bar on the outside before you install the ratchet spring and retainer nut.

FYI I have a Saito 2.20 on a 15 lb. cap 232 and I fly's Ok but I'd like more power than what the 220 is putting out.

Hi, you seem to be a Saito expert...can you tell me on which side of the spray bar does the o ring go? Also does it matter how the hole in the spray bar is oriented?
Thanks Gene

Yeah I Have a Extreme Flight Yak with a 180 inside .Spinning an 18x6 Xoar . Takes a little bit of work Unless you get a regulator to work with it.
I moved my tank under the wingspar @ Cg to get it low enough then put on a pump. Works great .the plane has good power also.

Well, I have a Saito 220 gaser , and a Lanier Ultimat Pitts that I am building. My friend said stick a 180 glow in it and it will fly great.... So I liked the idea of gas & 4 Stroke ..... So I bought the 220 gaser from Saito. What do you guys think? Is it a match or over kill? I've almost built all except for the radio stuff, waiting for UPS and my new Radio, I am weighing 10.5 lbs. ready to cover less radio. I guess a couple more Lbs. and it will be flying. I post some pics.

You will definitely have plenty of power,I'm getting a constant 19 lbs of thrust with my 2.20 and 21 @ peak. It should have great power to weight. Some might say overkill, but I like the match as long, as cg and fire wall strength is not a problem you should be fine.
