Thanks BLW for the mebership number. As far as sending cash or engines the hobby keeps me pretty broke most the time an awful addiction [sm=lol.gif] Now i went and bought a VINTAGE Competition Models Inc. " TAUBE" balsa wood model airplane kit. I wonder which saito will fly it good. It has a wingspan of 40" and can be fitted with engines from .20 to .49 CuIn.[sm=tongue_smile.gif]

I just broke-in and flew a Saito .91S and 1.00. There is no standard for how many turns you adjust the low side, you just have to play with it until you get it right. The way I did it was to put the engine on the plane after I ran it for the 40 minute break-in cycle and then flew it. After I flew it and the engine had a chance to operate in flight, then I adjusted the low speed. Saito sells their engines with an extremely rich low speed that is not to be adjusted until the engine is broken-in and the high speed setting is set. I had to turn in the low speed adjustment at least five complete turns before I had it set properly. One thing you'll notice amongst all the adjustments indicators is that at idle and a rich low speed, the exhaust will spit out a lot of un-burnt fuel until it is properly adjusted and, in flight, at a slow speed it will exhaust a lot of oil. While this is good for the initial running of the engine you need to adjust the low speed to get the best performance. Once I got the adjustment set, the engine performed beautifully and I improved the fuel burning effeciency.

Another note on setting the low speed needle valve on new Saito engines- they will need readjusting during the rest of the break in period on the model. They can seem overly sensitive at times, but that seems like a normal thing to me as the engine runs sweeter every time you fly on the first gallon of fuel.

So what is the fascination with Glo Devil glow plugs all of a sudden? Just curious. Let me in on the secret.

They aren't the ones with that horizontally spiralled element, are they?

I'll be looking for A Saito 56 Next Have to build the plane. So i have time to look for one. I'm wondering if anyone has tried these plugs in there Saito's?

Some people use them exclusively

Some people cannot stand them

My experience is that they run fine in some engines most of the time. But my surest bet for any engine any time is the OS "F" plug

I agree with w8ye, the O.S. F type plug works real well in Saito engines. When I get a new engine, I use the stock plug to run the break-in and then swith to the F type. They are reliable and last a long time.

Limk. most of my Saitos are equipped with the Fox Miracle plugs.

Ed, Fuelman and I did some horse trading a couple of years ago and he sent me a GloDevil 4C Special to try out. They are every bit the equal of the OS-f, possibly even better at cleaning up a stumbly midrange.

I also tried the TurboHeader on the Saito .45s, I didn't expect there to be much difference since the stock exhaust on the .45s is a straight pipe but here you are
Saito .45s
Fuel=WildCat 10%/18% lube
Fox Miracle Plug
Prop==Bolly 11.5x5
RPM Stock pipe===10,350
RPM TurboHeader=10,550 Most interesting.

PS, the prop in the pic is not the Bolly.

I'll have to give the four-stroke version a try, Dave. Those weren't around when I tried my last plug of this brand.

How's that 12' Telemaster coming along? I received my kit yesterday. Now to clear a space for construction.

Jim,

I used to run OS F plugs, but somewhere got changed to Saito SS plugs and they are just as good to me. They last and are about half the price. You think there is enough difference?

The OS "F", Saito "SS", H9 "Four stroke Super Plug", Y-S four stroke plug all run the same as far as I can tell. I'm sure there are others but that's all I've used lately.

The Saito SS Plug is what ccame with my 62A was a great plug till i fried it. I purchased some of the Fox plugs and the OS F plugs too. Thanks for the information on the plugs. Have to see How the Fox plugs work out and save the OS for when i cant stand the fox plug anymore. Mounting the Saito Inverted has Definetly been a challenge. and i can see why its not done alot. Now i have to wait for a fuel Dot Cant fill the tank with the plane up side down since the way the Fuel tank is setup I guess the Vent tube should have just been left straight in the tank instead of being bent towards the top of the tank. the fuel just pushes out the Vent tube and out the exhaust.went the tank is upside down.

So i'm hoping that the Fueler mounted in the cowl will work.

Hey w8ye, I ran that 82, that seized the other night, again tonight and it ran beautifully. Must of just been a real tight one as you said. I keep seeing people getting numbers, does 2-82's a 100 and a 180 qualify me?

haha i was wondering why members had higher numbers than mine even though i'm a new member. had my first flight with the 72 today.... AMAZING. i used to fly the cub with an evolution 46 but couldnt stand to see a cub sound like that, the saito sounds perfect on it. and its so powerful that i fly it around at like 20% or less throttle. 30 minutes of air time and still had fuel left!
