Hi Guys, would you mind if I ask one more time about the O ring that goes into the head along with the intake manifold?

I have the new gasket set. Now exactly..... does the O ring go into the head first, followed by the thin metal ring, and then the intake manifold pushes in on both?

Hi All, I have a Saito FA-91S that I bought about 10 years ago and never run. Is there anything now I should be aware of before I use on a plane? Was there anything that Saito changed on this engine or is it basically the same?

WOW!! Club Saito, almost 400 pages and almost 10000 posts. Is this some kind of record?
Let's see I've got five of them, 1.80, 1.50, 1.00, .91, .82. They are great little engines, but the big bores like the fuel.

The 91 hasn't materially changed since it came out.

The main difference was the crank shaft was made about 1/8" longer about 10 years ago

Frank, make sure you take the rocker covers off and run lots of oil on everything and let it run down the tubes and into the cam area as well before you fire it up.

Ernie, Yes I plan on oiling it up real good since it is probably quite dry. In fact I will not even turn it over until I put the oil on it.

This is going to sound a lot like Ernie's post. I just bought a Saito 150s from an add on RCUniverse. It is brand new, still in plastic bag, but has sitting in the guy's basement for years. I will be sure to oil the rockers before firing. It is not a GK, but is black with chrome rocker covers. My question is the same as in the above post. Are all the 150S's the same, or has there been changes in them over the years. Alao, how can I find out what model year it is?

The first black ones had silver rocker covers

It is probably a high compression one as all the first ones were.

I know it's a difficult question but can anyone tell me the approximate sweet spot for the HS {number of turns from closed} on an FA82 with about a gallon of Cool Power 20% pattern pro fuel through it at sea level 60 degree day?

Someone may know that number. However it is different for each engine, each fuel, and the elevation of each flying site.
If you would like to set the HS needle for your engine, your fuel, and your flying site do this:

1. Open the needle 4 turns. This will be plenty rich.
2. Start the engine.
3. Go to full-throttle. This is a must. Do not adjust the HS needle other than at full-throttle.
4. Turn the HS needle in until you reach peak rpm. Most people need a tach to do this well. The sound of a four-stroke does not seem to change as much at high rpm as a two-stroke. As the engine nears peak rpm turn the needle one click at a time and let the rpm catch up to the needle. The needle may become pretty sensitive as you approach peak.
5. You may now tune the LS needle. Or, if the LS is already set, richen the HS to about 300 rich of peak. Here again, turn the needle one click at a time. HS is now set. It may require slight adjustments as the engine runs in, if you change fuel or location, or if you get a very unusual variation in local barometric pressure.

Thanks for the reply. I started at four turns and about 8K rpm, at about three turns and 8700 rpm I set the LS and flew it for about a gallon, now i'm at about 2.5 turns and 9200 rpm and it's still spitting fuel out like a spigot but another click on the HS drops the RPM to 9000. I'm running an APC 14*4W prop, what RPM should I be able to achieve, do I need to keep leaning the HS?

Don't lean the HS needle beyond peak rpm.

Have you adjusted the LS needle? A Saito will not run at its best without doing so.

Yes, I have adjusted the LS. There has to be some kind of range for the HS, does 2.5 turns sound like Im in the ballpark? What RPM should I be able to get with the 14*4W?

This is just a question, not a criticism. But, how were you able to adjust the LS needle without having first adjusted the HS? Or have you just been trying to get some more revs by re-adjusting the HS?

For what it is worth, my .82s turn 9200 or 9300 on 15% Omega with 13x6 Pro Zingers. These are wooden propellers.

Your nitro is too low on the 82 for that prop, Im getting ready to go break in my 82 and hopefully get some numbers.

Ive had the same problems though on my 180 it peaks out but still spits the fuel out, the engine is working to hard. Up your nitro to 25-30%

Im going to break in with the Omega 15 then switch to Cool Power 30% and throw the turbo header on it.
