OK Saito Team, I just received a 150 that I bought off EBay.The seller bought it several years ago and never used it. It is Black with chrome(silver) valve covers. It also has a throttle stop and a choke on it. Any guess on how old this might be. The box says it is a Hemi-Head and a High Cam Series. The engine looks flawless, never mounted or ran. One thing that scares me is when I turn the motor by hand, it has a slight clicking noise, almost like a ratchet. Seems to turn smooth, but the noise bothers me. Will I have to change the bearings or is this normal and don't have to worry about it?Also, What would guys value an engine like this? Any info will help me out and would be appreciated.

They were shipped like this at one time. There are pictures of them around this long thread. The clicking noise is normal and you shouldn't worry about it. If you close the throttle, you will also notice less compression until you open the throttle some.

It's me again. I was reading some earlier posts and there was talk about the velocity stack for the 125. I also checked out the link for Horizon. Will this stack a direct bolt on or will I need to make some modifications. If it fits, Why doesn't Horizon advertise it for the 125? Just asking before I order one.

I like doing it right the first time.

Very few people use the choke. I have removed all mine

I have a saito 125 in my little toni. I was getting around 8900 r's with a 14X10 apc on 15% omega powercool four stroke. I was wondering what other combos I could try to get a little more speed out of it. Any suggestions? Anyone?

I was thinking maybe a 12X12 but then how much torque would I be losing? I don't race, all I am really looking for is a quick sport flyer that will impress me at the field. I am not really sure which fuel I should be using also for best performance. I am still relatively new to the hobby and still have much to learn about fuel and what mixes work best for what engines. Still using what the hobby shop supplies. I hear lots of good things about ys fuel, but how well does it perform and how long will my engine last on it? I don't really want to burn out a good running motor every three years. These are the types of questions I have. Like I said, I still have lots to learn.

Hi Mike,

I would try the 12x12 on the same fuel you are using or an APC 12.5x12.5 on 30% heli fuel. I'm not sure they still make the 12.5x12.5.

Mike:

I bought a velocity stack for a 91S and 100. Assuming you're engine carb is similar to these, the stack just botls on. You remove the carb from the engine, slide the stack on, then bolt it back onto the engine. Don't forget to get an O-ring to put between carb body and stack to close the gap that you will see there, otherwise you'll have an air leak that will defeat the purpose of the stack.

The 125 is the best all around engine saito offers. It will fly on a 50-120 size airplane and pulls very well.

Is William Robison still on here? Haven't seen any posts lately.
Did he ever finish his book? I would like a copy of his Saito notes if they are still available.
He always seemed to have an answer for everything Saito.

I'm real sorry to hear that. I haven't read all the pages of club Saito yet (only up to page 65), but he always was there with his knowledge to pass along.
He even had a sense of humor when needed.
Does anyone have his notes to pass along?

Dang, I wish I had read those before I bought 20/20 pure synthetic. But I'm glad I read them before I start using my 125.

They appear to be a great resource. I am lucky that a great knowledge has been recorded here. Very cool.


The velocity stack is as effective when the engine is inverted and the carb is up? or does fuel still splash about?


I've ordered one. This O-ring looks about right?

Is there as much need/benefit of the stack when the carb is pointing straight up?

Be careful when mounting the velosity stack if you squeeze the o-ring it might protrude (bulge) into the carb opening some, especially it isn't positioned properly. Check by looking inside after attaching, if it is get larger diameter or thinner o-ring.

A bru-line filter will also help keep that expensive glow fuel where it belongs.
