I use a set up like in the picture above. I bought them at the local NAPA store but they are much cheaper at Harbor Frieght sales.

Great, exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I'll buy that set as soon as it goes on sale at Harbor Freight.... Or my bearings go bad and I don't have a choice.
Thanks!

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Ref: SAITO twins
I am new to SAITO engines and was wondering where I could find a list of their twin opposed engines currently made as well as out of production, and information on each as to if the design is such that the pistons are at TDC simultaneously (boxer style, or two separate crank pins) or not. And whether or not they fire simultaneously as well.
It's my understanding that some are boxer style and some are not. As far as firing simultaneously, I don't know what would drive the design to be one way or the other.

Current Saito makes a 60T that has a double throw crank. The pistons are at TDC simultaneously but they fire alternately and a single carb
There is also a 90TS that works identically.
There is an older no longer in production 90T that has a single pin crankshaft with an odd firing sequence.
A current 100T is made and works very much like the old 90T with a double carb
There is a discontinued 130 that has a single pin crank and the odd firing order
The current 182T has the single pin crank and odd firing order and a double carb.
There are two 300T's. They both have a double throw crank. One has twin carbs and the other a single carb.
Then we get to the 100TI and 200TI which are inline twins. The have double throw cranks and a firing sequence like a Harley. They have a single carb.

Wow. Thanks, w8ye, for that comprehensive look at Saitos. You answered my questions completely.
Looking at the 60T and 90TS, they sure look nice. They must be very smooth with the double throw crank.
I like the engines and will have to look for a good project that will give me a reason to try them.
Regards,
Barry

The 60T works very nice in the 80" full wing Cubs but with floats you need the 90TS.
The two engines are almost identical on the outside dimensions.
Don't confuse a 90T with a 90TS. They are completely different.
The earlier 100T engines had a pump on the side to pump air into the crankcase. The current ones do not have this pump and you cannot buy any parts for the pump.
Keep in mind that multiple cylinder model engines do not have as much overall power asw equivalent size single cylinder engines.
Also working on one of these gets considerably more complicated than a single.
The 60T and 90TS are much harder to work on than a single. They have four main bearings and three cam bearings. The connecting rods have caps etc.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thought I would post a followup to an earlier post I made regarding engine vibration. I bought a FA100 and did the break-in on a test stand. Following the break-in instructions I fired it up and was shocked to see and feel the heavy vibration coming from the engine. I was worried it would destroy an epoxied firewall in short order. It shook so bad I immediately regretted buying the engine. However, after close to a full gallon of fuel, and after getting the high and low speed needles set properly, the engine has settled down and is running very nice. It's now mounted in a plane and ready to go. Upon doing a little research in RCU I have found the FA100 may be more prone to vibration than other Saito engines. So if you get one of these just be patient, follow the instructions, and the heavy vibration should go away once the engine is fully broken in especially so after the high and low needle settings are made. Expect to burn about a gallon of fuel during break-in. By the way, I had to lean the low speed needle almost 2 full turns before it was proper. I hope this is helpful to you all.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
i bought a cheap 2 arm puller at Advanced autoparts, i think about $15. it is big and cumbersome, but actually worked real good. it has two jaws that are flat steel about 1/8" thick and 1 inch wide, a 90 degree bend at the teeth end - i ground as a bevel to fit into the groove in the drive. it has a thumb screw on each side that holds the jaws on - loosen to open and tighten the tighten the jaws. it uses (i think) a 7/8" wrench to tighten the press bolt. it is big and heavy, but, once you get a grip on it, pops right off. i picked it up at 9pm one night, tried it and it worked.

Would you settle for the official number of 587?
Looks like you are on your way to a good start with those engines.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
HELLO; I put my Saito club number on my Funtana 100, I looked through my pictures and can't find a picture of it.
I also have a few other planes on the same channel (12) which I have marked with that number.

Club Saito number??? What a great idea... Does that mean I have a 'Vanity Saito Number??? (Saito #61, Haw Haw - I sure do miss Bill Robison!! )
I wonder if we could find a service somewhere that would cut some vinyl graphics for it. Someone in a cottage business who could cut vinyl graphics... Does anyone have a good idea for a Club Saito logo? The Logo could say something like "Club Saito #61" (or whatever) as well as certain options, such as your name and/or the engine size. I'd design it except that my taste is all in my feet.
I just put my Saito 82 into a New Ruler with a 14x6 prop. It hasn't flown yet, but it will.
I'm thinking of asking Santa for a H9 F6F Bearcat next Christmas and will put my Satio 120 into it. I am holding on to my Saito .56 for my Mid-Star 40. A friend already flies this combination and it's a great match!
OK, how about a Club Saito decal? Let's scoop all those other 'common' engine Clubs...

Jim,
What's the story on the muffler on your beautiful blue bi-plane? Doesn't look like one of your's!

I am sorry I missed your post. I now have a TurboHeader mounted on the Ultimate. I finally found the time to swap it out and it sounds much better. By the way, the 10mm TurboHeader for the small singles is now available, linkadrip.

Glad it seems like a good idea. Let me tinker around with logo ideas and I'll post some sketches up here in the next day or so. I used to do that for a living, but it's been a few years.
Accurate looking engines, or more cartoon like such as military patches?

My vote goes for a realistic engine, but I'm open to suggestions... The more I look at my other post, the more I like the idea of a logo (whatever the majority chooses) and your Saito number... maybe adding the name and the engine size is too over-the-top and cumbersome.
Thanks for doing what you're doing, blw.

I'm in favor of a Club Saito Logo with some provision for a member number. You guys out there with the artistic ability ought to be able to come up with something. I'm anxious to see what you come up with blw. We're getting close to 600 members. Be kinda' fun to let folks know we're here.

Jim,
No problem in missing the post. Just having bought one of your turboheaders for my 180 I couldn't let the chance to pull your chain go by. And I know that you haven't developed a muffler for every engine yet. Your's just look better than the one in the picture.

Ron,
Almost anything looks better than the stock Saito muffler. Thanks for the compliment and I hope you like your TurboHeader. When I posted the pic I thought about leaving that chain hanging out there. I too, have to pull the chain when given the opportunity.
