So linkadrip you taching 9900 now? If so something wrong with my engine!

In another thread a guy posted over 11,000 with a 13x6 on the .72 so is something wrong or does a different make of prop ,make
a 2000-3000 rpm difference? Im sure the thrust output would vary a little also?

Bob you have to get one to really appreciate the "Saito sound" Even though mine seems broke compared to others they still run
sooo smoooth !

But really somebody probably has some audio/video for you to hear somewhere.

I have often wondered how accurate the optical tachometers which we use happen to be. Mine reads low also!

Speaking of which: What kinds of tachs do Saito people use?

Yeah true, I mean I can get those high numbers if I point the plane into the sun . Often I turn so the sun is shining on the area of the prop Im taking the readings.
Weve checked with two tachs now and have not had a chance to use the hundred dollar one. Think its a TME or TMI or something? For the money it better be right

Heres the one i use

Overview
Hangar 9’s new Micro Digital Tachometer is engineered using the latest technology. This handy tuning tool can measure the rpm of any engine equipped with a 2-, 3-, or 4-bladed propeller. RPM is displayed in up to four digits, with a range of up to 32,000 rpm. A long lasting 3V 220mAh lithium battery is included. The Micro Digital Tachometers’s auto shut-off feature prolongs battery life, and a low-battery icon indicates when the battery needs to be changed. It's also small enough to easily fit into your pocket.

My Saito FA-62A AAC w/Stock Muffler Currently has an RPM of 8600 Peak with a 13X5 MAS Prop on it. Hopefully this will be higher when i put the Turbo muffler on it when i get it...

The only thing i dont like about this tach is you have to multiply the numbers buy 10 to get the reading would like to have one that give's the actual RPM So i dont have to think. lol

Linkadrip- 2200 RPM is pretty good for almost anything, especially at the point the engine is at right now unless you need to bump it up a bit higher.

Bob- the .56 has a single cylinder Harley putt putt to it that is very distinctive. For wide open, I think the .72 has a great sound. But, so does the 1.25.

rimcnii- The new version of the TNC tach for me.

Ok looking for TNC Tach have to check it out.. So far no luck still searching...Found it..

http://fromeco.org/searchresults.aspx?SearchText=Tach

Expensive Does it give an actual RPM read out?? Mainly thats what i'm wondering realy intrested in any tach that will Give an actual read out.. i think i found my answer..

The revised tach displays both the current RPM and the highest RPM attained. There are 5 significant digits for each measurement, for easy reading.

Ok i'm sold i bought one with Six Planes i'm sure i can put it to good use..

Yeah thats the Tach The Fromeco. It looks good from what Ive studied and holds in the hand nice.

For every piece of junk there will be 1000's of gems . I like when people say this about some of the best flying planes also. JUNK!!

Can I PM you my adress and you can send your junk (Saito .56) my way? Since its junk you were going to throw it out anyway right?

I mean you would'nt sell a piece of junk and still have your dignity intact would you?

Tim, when a guy makes a totally unsubstantiated statement like that, it's a safe bet he's never even seen a Saito .56.

Mike, Bill Robison's Saito notes should have some pictures in them somewhere. I know that I loaned him a couple of engines for that purpose, he sent the .30 in the PSP back to me with a black cylinder as a little joke. I'm not sure what he used to blacken it, but its tough whatever it is.

I recieved an email from preds explaining his low opinion of his .56. A push rod keeps jumpiing off. He likes his .91 fine. If we can troubleshoot the push rod problem he should be 100% favorable toward Saitos instead of 50%.

I watched your video. Very nice!

However, I'd take that idle up a little before taking to the sky. You don't need a flame-out at the worst possible moment!

Yes lowest idel is 1800 with the trim all the way Down. Trim centered its 2400 Rpm. Trim all lthe way up is 3200 RPM.. most likely will fly it with the trim All the way up were the idel is at 3200 For its first few flights.. But the Turbo Muffler Definetly made a big difference.. Over the stock one..

Before Saito and YS reduced their compression ratios some years ago, Saito, YS and Enya engines had a distinctive "thump" to their exhaust note, which some folks claimed they could feel in their chest. Enya still has the thump. Saito and YS do not. They caved in to catering to the American nitro freaks and lowered their compression.

I finally got my Saito .90 triple to wake up a little, I ran two 27 oz Graupner tanks of fuel through it today. It had approximately one hours time on it from a previous run. I made up the glow plug harness out of a SonicTronics twin setup and ancient ACE, (when it was really ACE), rc single set up. The reading is two clicks rich of about 9,450, about 800 shy of my Saito .62. The Hobbico 4,400 ma Super HotShot powers all three plugs just fine. The homemade test stand is made from scrap wood from other projects.

Prop==Graupner 12x7
Fuel==WildCat 15%/18% lube.

I need some guidance from one of you Saito experts out there. I would like to change the orentation of the fuel inlet nipple on the carb of my new 180. It seem to have a couple of jam nuts that I assumed I could losen and would allow me to turn it but I find that it seems to turn the whole spray bar assembly when I get it loose enough to turn. Am I going to mess something up here or is it OK to go ahead and turn the spray bar nipple assembly and just retighten it? Even when it's "loose" it seems to be kinda tight. Thanks for any help or information.

we'll have to wait for the experts for that one, but here's another:
Is there a common agreement that OS type F are the best plugs? or is that old news and there are now plugs that are just as good?
