RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
This might help it from dieing its what i'm thinking of doing on my trainer get a check valve put it in the line between the muffler and tank to maintain a constant pressure in the tank.. Dont know if it will work but i thought i would give it a try dont think it will hurt much. But i'll wait to see what Someone else says about it..

Link, you can't put that much pressure on the tank without using a regulator, you'll have a really rich midrange when you throttle and all that built up pressure is pushing the fuel.

Thanks Hobbsy. Glad i didnt try the check valve. It Seems to be all better now. I Just Richened my fuel up on the saito .72 a bit and the problem was solved. But i'll have to Retune a little most likely when i get the TB muffler For the .72.. but if the problem comes back i'll consider a regulator and check valve.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I picked up two Saitos. A .72 and a .91 GK.
I put the .72 in a Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee and ran a couple tanks through with the cowling off. When I put the cowling on, the engine seems to have no power now. None. Which direction do I need to go with the needle valve to offset this? I can't adjust with the cowling on, the engine is on its' right side and the muffler sits right below the needle valve.
I also have a 13 x 6 on it. Sound about right?
Any help would be appreciated.

The needle valve/carburetor assembly needs to be turned around so the needle valve is on top.
You will never be successful using the plane while the needle valve is not adjustable

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Is this the correct spring and screw set for the Saito 1.80? Im looking for OO but only O is listed. This is listed under the 180 parts though.
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=SAI120S90A
Also why is the upgrade kit http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=SAI180144
Cheaper then this http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...D=SAI450R3D84A
Is the upgrade for an older 180 carb?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
HELP! Saito 125 mounted inverted on a UCD 60...no cowl. Ran three 12oz tanks of fuel through it on the test stand. Today I maidened the UCD. First 20oz tank the engine ran great. Three subsequent flights ended in dead sticks after about 2 min. On the ground when starting with a chicken stick at 1/4 throttle first two swings .....fuel blows out of the carb like a whale! 10 or fifteen flips later..engine starts...idles good...transition to full throttle is fine ...at full throttle that engine is really cooking! Take it to the runway....flies good for about a minute or two....no manuvers...just flying normal.....then dies. This happened for the next three flights. Although on the third start on the stand...she backfired...and slight twisted my spinner! Prop is an APC 16x6. This is my first Saito. At home I checked...and the fuel line out of the tank through the firewall is right at 1 inch above the carb. Anyone have any ideas?

Upnet,
Sounds like you are trying to run it too lean with the quitting and backfiring
The excess fuel coming out the carb sounds like a sticking or too tight intake valve.

waterloged- you are most likely running the 1.20 rich. By the way, how does the 26MX fly with that engine? Is this the kit or ARF? I have the CG kit still in the box.

Hi all,
Will the Saito 90 elbow work with the muffler if strapped with zip ties? A note that came with it said it was for the flex extension only.
Thanks a bunch,
Tom
This is my first glow plane and I want to get it right!

Just a thought, Upnet
I wonder if there is a way to lower your tank. You said that the middle of the tank is about 1" above the carb. Just a thought...

I had a similar problem and lowered the tank and havent had a problem since. My tank was to high and was loading the carb. once the carb is full of fuel be careful starting it, mine would throw the prop. scarey

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
N1EDM I will explore the possibility of lowering the tank. There is not much room in there to change much. That fuse is very narrow. Remember... the first flight was fine. Thinking back...we did lean it out a click or two on the main needle valve after that first flight. Why? Shoot! If it ain't broke......tweak it till you do!
BUUGS50 Yeah...that sucker backfired and the prop twisted the spinner somewhat.
SCRATCHONLY We never messed with the low end. But will check the orifice.
Another question....since its mounted inverted and sits that way...a week or two between flights.....I imagine everything drains into the top end. What little fuel/oil is left after flying. Would it be better to store it with the cylinder in the upright position?
I will keep you all posted on my progress. This is my first Saito and I must say....that 125 hung out front of that UCD is positively insane! Pretty much had to run her at no more that half throttle! I'm beginning to see why you guys like them. Up till now....I have been running two stokes.
Thanks to all for the tips.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The tank on my Super Stearman was also high, which is one reason I decided to use a Cline regulator. My 1.80 runs really sweet with the Cline, and it will always run the same no matter what the fuel load.
