Outacontrol,
From what I read here, it should be flush with the arm. If it has the plastic arm, it should be flush with the metal inner that the plastic is moulded to.
I hope that helps..........I'm sure the more experienced guys will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Tom. I'm going to try that and see where it goes. It either will begin to idle correctly or need more adjustment ....will also follow directions in the manual. All they say is'preadjusted at the factory' but that's not always so after the engine has traded hands a few times and tweaked.

If you peak the top end (HS) needle for max rpm with a tach, and then lower the speed to wherever it will idle and quickly open the throttle. If it transitions cleanly, it's not too lean. If it doesn't transition, it may be lean. Having the low speed flush with the metal arm, or 1-2 mm in with the plastic arm is a good, rich starting point usually. the key is to peak the high end befor you mess with the low. Once peaked, lean the low speed 1/8th to 1/4 turn at a time untill it hesitates or dies on transition. Once that happens, your too lean and you need to richen by 1/8th turn. With a cline regulator my 1.80 will idle all day at 1800, but without would only be reliable at about 2100. It's still new.

blw,

Thanks !! and with that I just purchased a 1.25 !! The familly is growing. I actually purchased the 100 for something else and didn't use it yet. I ran it on a friends plane and it would turn a 15x6 MA 9450 rpms. I just picked up a Frenzy and the 1.25 , hope to have them set up shortly.

I just broke in a Saito 150. The low speed screw was flush with the arm. I had to turn it out(rich) 2 1/2 turns so it would run. With it flush, it would only run at 1/2 throttle and above and was very lean. It is the only Saito I have that had to be turned out this far. I am hoping this is normal. I own 5 Saito's. I have a 180, 150, 125, and 2-82's. I would also like to join the club!!

I hope so !!
I like the .72 , except when I flooded the engine and cracked my finger !! Well , I re-adjusted the low end, getting a pretty steady 2200 rpm's . Its on a Nitro models Yak 54 , weighs in @ 6 lbs 2oz , should fly rather nice. I replaced a Magnum 70 with the 72 and am very happy with the results. I'm running 20/20 , but I think it ran just fine on 10% Omega. I'm going to try both , if the 10% works out , I'm going to go back to it after the 20/20 is gone.

Mbrennan1 is #591, outacontrol41 is #591....who else is #591?

By the way...thanks to good advice here my Saito .72 is running like a clock with good trasistion from low to high rpm's. Thanks to all and I hope this helps others who get in this situation. I would have read the whole thread to find answers in earlier posts but I didn't have all month plus a few days to read all 10,400 posts. This thread is wickedly loooong!

I have a 125 that has been in two wrecks. One pretty bad and the other not so bad. Is there any thing I should look for by way of damage. I want to put it into another Little toni this spring. I fired it up before I put it to bed for the winter and all seemed well. Just wondering about things I may have missed and what else to possibly look for. I pressure tested the crank case and that was ok.

The only other thing beside exterior dents and broken fins is a bent crankshaft

I have a satio 100 on a TF cessna 182 that is inverted and the tank is higher than the needle jet.
My question is will a perry vp 20 work very well with this setup.

Hello Guys Im back for a little more help, the 220 that has given me a problem with not idleing below 3000 R's is doing a little better now that Ive redone the whole fuel system. I installed a 32 oz dubro tank with large clunk and 1/8 ID tubing, added a Perry VP-30 pressure pump. Now Im getting 8250 on the topend with a carbon 19/8 prop.(20.10 lbs. thrust) Low idle is at 2600, cant seem to get less than that. (2.6 lbs. thrust) I would like to get the reported #'s 1600 to 1800, What do u think about useing a larger prop to get lower idle rpm, and what pitch?
BTW Im useing power master 30% fuel.

well i went out and flew the .72 Saito today ran great with the turbo muffler and sounds like a warbird. But won't do verticle it dies so looks like i'm going to have to go the regulator route if i ever want to get it to fly straight up Does rolls loops flys inverted, but wont go Verticle starts climbing then goes BLAH full throttle. Guess it just doesnt have enough pressure to push that fuel out that tank.

But as long as it's flys and does everthing else i shouldn't be concerned about verticle it's a trainer.

Have an inflight video. I strapped a camera to it. Need to edit the video then i'll post for all to see.

Link,

I don't think the problem is the pushing of fuel out of the tank. You may be running a little lean. Richen it a little and try it. You can check it on the ground by holding the plane nose up before and after.

kerwin50, I did a simple test a few years ago and reported the results in a thread here at RCU. With both the VP-20 and VP-30, when the attached fuel tank was elevated above the pump and a head started to build, fuel started to flow through the pump. In my simple test, neither regulated the flow of fuel.

Link, I had the same problem and found out that the tank was too low in relation to the spraybar. Once I raisied the tank up the problem was solved.

so does the cline regulator work better than the perry vp 20 for a high tank location.
I had an old perry pump 18 yrs ago. It had a fuel pressure adjustment on it, but I don't recall if it would sippion or not

kerwin, in my opinion the Cline or Iron Bay regulators are the choice for mis-matched tank centerline/ spraybar situations.

I've just finished running in my Saito 62. I didn't push it over 9800 on the high end, but before finished, had a nice--if still a bit bumpy--idle between 2000 and 2100.

Here's a couple of pics that I took in close. If you saw the rest of my stand, you'd throw me out of Club Saito.

Hi all.

Had my first forray into 4 strokes when I fired up my 72 last weekend.

Love that Harley burble!!

Run 1 tank through it and will finish the break in on the plane (not flying).
I''m trying to hunt down a velocity stack for it and have tried Horizon, but they don''t ship that sort of thing to Australia, and Saito stuff here is rare.
Does anyone have a LHS that ships international??
Keen to get a stack but hate the way most places here are OS favoured.

Nothing wrong with OS, got a few 2 strokes of theirs, but really like the looks of the Saito which is why I bought it to go into my Sig Somethin Extra when I finish the build.
Just need a stack and I''ll be one happy chap.

I like the metal engine support you made. That''s very nice.

Oh, and your wood is better than mine.
