I should have added that the interference only occurs when the motor is running t full throttle. Full throttle with the engine off is fine

HOLY SHEEP SH@T BATMAN ALMOST 500 PAGES!!!

Add me to the list I have a 30SGK, 2 hundys one 125, and a 180.

The 180 has sat for about 6 months and wants to die in the midrange, top end is fine idles nice and low but surges in the middle. this is new to me any suggestions?

Im running F plug, 18x6 @ 9300 top end, 2300 at the botom, I replumbed the fuel lines and R2 the fuel tank to get rid of the varnished fuel sitting on the bottom., fattend up the bottom but it just made the idle worse so it moved back in a 1/4 and she idles smooth for over 30 sec or more. HMMMMM
any ideas?

Hey everyone,

I have a Saito 91 GK that I installed on an Extra 300S. Today I went up for about the 3rd or 4th flight ever and noticed something wasn't right. It seemed to be moving back and forth as if the ailerons were jumping. Previous flights had been on windy days so i figured it was just the wind bumping it around. I landed without any issues and put it on a stand and started it back up. Sure enough, when i go to full power the ailerons jitter back and forth. Anyone know what could cause this. It only happens at full throttle. I am using a 2.4 ghz radio. I have heard that a metal clevis on a metal throttle can cause interference. I have this setup and I am going to change it but don't think it will help. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All of the preceding is good advice.

You may also rethinking your receiver's vibration protection. We still use crystals to derive the frequencies at which our systems operate. Crystals, even a reference crystal in a synthesized set such as our 2.4 GHz rigs, need to be protected from mechanical vibration.

Yes, receivers have come a long, long way from the delicate units that we were forced to use in the past, but that reference crystal is still prone to going bonkers due to mechanical vibration.

Since it is only the aileron channel so far, I would make sure that the servos and their connectors are up to snuff. A mechanical fault in that area (improperly bonded servo connector) could also be the problem. If it persists, I would contact the system's manufacturer and discuss the problem with them. I'm sure they will be eager to help.

Need help ya'll. Need info on wat 2 1/4 aluminum spinner will work on my .82 ? It's mounted in a H-9 Piper pawnee. I want to use a Top Flight wood 14-6 prop. Also I'm not that good at modifing a spinner, so I need one that I don't have to chop it up to get it to work. Have a new Tru Turn, but the prop slots are too thin for the blades to slide into. If any one knows of one, I'd like for ya'll to tell me. Better yet, if ya'll have one that u don't need, send it ti me! (I'll even take ya coon hunt'n). OR, if anyone cud modify this one I got, I'll send it to ya. (I'll even take ya coon hunt'n too!) Well, anyway,thank ya'll a lot! Glad ya got to see me! >>>-> Bassfish [sm=shades_smile.gif]

both Tru Turn and Dave Brown Products will custom cut one of their spinners to whatever prop it is you want to fit.
I think Tru Turn gets $9 something in addition to the spinner http://www.tru-turn.com/

Hi,
I know this is the Saito thread but I'm having a problem with a OS 91 Surpass.
Has anyone had any experience with the 91s carb? I wrecked my plane and the carb housing was cracked so I picked up a replacement housing. I have removed everything but I’m having a problem pulling the barrel out. After removing the screw that holds the barrel in I thought it would slide right out but it doesn’t want to come out.
Does anyone know what might be holding it in?

Hi bassfish,had the same problem.Fixed it with a 4" grinder and cutoff blade then a diegrinder and fine rat tail file.Looked great by the time i'd finished the bottle of scotch.

Just fitting my 82 to the decaff and noticed the tank is about 15mm to high,the source of my tuning problems while in the air with the 62 in it i think.An easy fix someone please??

almost 5oo pages long and this thread has almost a half million hits. i have been away for awhile playing with electrics, but the glow bug has hit me again electric motors are easy but real motors are a lot more enjoyable if you ask me. now im trying to pick out a plane/engine combo for a winter project ! woohoo !. i post one thread about my new saito engine and look what it has become. the number one spot on the web for saito info...

I have received my two Saito FA-45 on the mail yesterday. They sure were dirty and a bit sticky (I was aware of it when I bought them on the 'bay).
After a soaking in glow fuel for the night (didn't have any pure methanol at my place) and after a lot of scrubbing with a short-haired nylon brush, here's the result of the first engine, as can be seen in the attached photo.

Many thanks to Hobbsy for sending me the instructions for this model, free of charge. You're a great mate![8D]

The NIB one has the high cam and is a later edition than the used one. The NIB will have a lot more power and higher rpm

I intend to run the used ones, this FA-45S is staying in the box, NEW. It's pretty hard for me, as I just gotta run any new engine I buy, for only then will it be alive and place its mark on my heart. (yeah, I'm a nutcase![sm=bananahead.gif])

G'day I have a number of Saitos and among them is one of the early FA-45 as shown in the photos above. I gather it is the early "low cam" version. It runs very sweetly but is amazingly powerless. It will not even fly my old Kadet Senior which I have happily powered with a very early OS 40 FS. I gather that the cam from a later "high cam" engine would make it more powerful? Can the cam from a 50 or 56 be used? They are reasonably easy to get here - the 45 less so.

There's a sequence of posts about changing to the high cam in this thread somewhere about 3 years back

It amounts to a new cam, pivot shaft, lifters, cam followers, cam box, and push rods with all parts from a Saito 56

Guys, one of the Saitos is now running, but still needs the needles to be set just right.

At 1:00m, you can all enjoy me having a prop kickback at my fingers. Engine starts at 3 minutes.
I still need to learn its manners, but that's the fun of it.
I also gotta buy some thicker padded leather gloves, my fingers are still hurting from yesterday's prop kickback from my ASP FS-91...

Very nice photos and videos.

My hand and fingers were hurting in sympathy during the video.

I don't like those little single cell NiCad booster batteries for breaking-in engines, or when running four-strokes. I prefer to have something much more substantial so that I can be sure of having enough electricity to heat the plug hot enough for bounce starting (flinging the prop back against compression), either by hand (with glove) or by spinning the spinner or safety nut backwards.

I haven't seen an FA-45 run since an ardent Saito fan in my old NJ club was expounding upon the virtues of Saito engines. That was in the early nineties. John Pazursky passed away shortly after his last demonstration at our club field. A fine gentleman, and he was right. My first Saito engine was a .50 GK. It was like running an electric motor, but it sounded much, much better. John is missed.

Hang in there, you'll get the procedure down in no time at all. That engine idles at an incredibly low speed. Now you have me hyped up to go run of my Saitos. Thanks!
