I'm out here in Ca. and think we have cold weather today, it's about 50. Snow is pretty to look at but I'm sure glad I don't have to clear my driveway to get out.

I moved from South Dakota to Georgia 15 years ago. I brought everything but my snow shovels. They were abandoned in place Maybe someday I'll get all nostalgic about snow but not yet. I hated that farkin' stuff!

The wife and I moved to Georgia what will be 11 years ago this May. I miss NJ because of the cheesesteaks/submarines/pizza and, of course, many, many friends, but living in GA has its upside. Where else can you buy a fatback sub and have someone ask you if you want chittlins on your pizza? Just kidding. That's in southwest VA, not here in GA.

There appears to be more modeling activity down here in GA than there was in NJ. There's definitely a more competitive spirit down here. Up north you nearly have to apologize if you're interested in contesting. Not so down here. Now if they would just learn how to make a real south Jersey cheesesteak (with the customary sauce) and a real submarine sandwich. I'd be in R/C heaven.

wow you yanks sure eat the craziest sounding stuff ed,and whats with blowers and snow plows,none of us have ever seen one...are they powered by saitos? and if so what prop are they swinging

G'day OF. That idea of a gardening tool powered by a model aero engine is not as crazy as you might think. A friend of mine was given a genuine home made whipper snipper (weed eater or what ever they are called in the US of A). It was a wooden broom handle with a Taipan 1.5 cc diesel mounted on the end and fitted with a nylon Tornado 7 x 6 prop. The bloke that made it used it for years to trim the edges of his gardens. No kidding. Scout's honour. He just used to replace the props when they got a bit short and go on his merry way. The engine was in quite good condition too after this treatment.

As for snow - well here (Dubbo - elev. ~ 350 metres) today it was about 39 degrees Celsius which is over 100 F. So not much snow. Near here at Orange (which is at an elevation of 880 metres ~ 2900 feet) we used to get snow in winter but usually for only a couple of days at a time. Once though it snowed continually for three weeks and by the end of it I was totally happy to see the end of it. Especially as I was driving an ex-army Land Rover which I had restored and the starter motor had died (turned out to be a loose connection). So for three weeks, I crank started the beast twice a day. After this, finger starting models engines is a total doddle. With models you get a cut finger, but if your Land Rover decides to kick back and you are holding the crank the wrong way, you get a broken thumb or worse.

I'm with you Georgia guys. I'm very glad I settled down here in Nashville! It's wonderful to have decent flying days year round. I lived in Minneapolis for a while and I don't miss the weather on the ice planet Hoth one bit!

Now I just need to finish these projects so I can get my two new Saitos running.

LOL sorry guys, that looks horrible.
We were crying like red headed step children when we woke up and there was 1/4" of ice on everything.
Thank goodness it melted and dried off by mid afternoon.

Might be a good time to go ahead and get the Saitos.
I have found that wife irritation lasts about the same for most things so since she is stirred up might as well take advantage of it instead of enduring it twice.

Hi Ed,
Being a NJ native "I feel your pain"
We had a deli for a while that made true NJ style Pizza, though they were from Longgg Island and insisted it was NY style.
It was great until the wife ran off with the refrigeration guy and they went outta business[&o].
Now if folks outside of the major Metropolitan areas could just grasp the concept of real bread, and that a sub roll is not an oversized hot dog bun[:'(]
Man a pork roll and cheese on a hard roll would be great about now

Hi Old Fart,
Never seen a Saito on a snow blower, but the big two stage ones like ours, are 4 stroke (11.5 Hp)[8D], usually made by Tecumseh. Smaller single stage sidewalk types are usually 2 strokers.

You being from Jersey you just don't know how to live in George'jah. You gotta stop by the barbecue place on the way to the field and get a sack full of sandwiches, some Brunswick stew, a bunch of Co-cola's or maybe a big jug of sweet tea, and some ice. You-be-th-man at the field then.

I would go flying with the guys over in Columbus Ga and it wasn't decent flying without some good Barbecue at noon. They lost their Ft Mitchel field to progress though I'm sure there's a good alternative out on the East side of town where they fly now?

Over in AL at Society Hill it was cat fish and hush puppies

I like the sound of the NJ food too. We'll have to go there some time? -Jim

Boiled peanuts are all over the place in the South East. They go well at the flying field too.

I love peanuts, but I don't believe that I've ever had them boiled. Are they boiled in water? Salted, or unsalted?
When I was a little guy, our local 5 & 10 (Kress's) roasted peanuts (in oil) at the snack bar, the aroma carried well out onto the sidewalk (pre air conditioning), intentionally I'm sure, as it dragged in a lot of customers I'm sure!
All this talk of food is killing me, as I'm cutting down on the calories and upping the exercise.

Yes, very salty and boiled for something like 4 hours. You use green peanuts.
