Bill. At the risk of going waaaaay off topic.

For 30 years I drove an assortment of Land Rovers at work and at home. As a result, I had a lot to do with "Lucas - Prince of Darkness".

Q. Why do the English drink warm beer?
A. Because they have Lucas fridges.

It is important to know that all Lucas electrical systems run on smoke. Special Lucas smoke. When it gets out, the system won't work. There is a special Lucas Part number for Lucas Smoke and the Winston adaptor which has to be used to re-insert the smoke into the system. I actually saw one for sale on a certain auction site. Really! The Triumph and MG owners were fighting to get it to keep their precious beasts running.

I was setting up one of my small electric models yesterday and was almost convinced it was a Lucas when smoke started issuing from the motor. Some idiot (me) had put one of the servo leads in backwards. Fortunately I was very quick in un-plugging the battery and no serious damage seems to have been done. There must still be enough smoke in the system. Phew.

I also find that my Saitos run on smoke. That is how I can tell they are still running when they are out of earshot. Quick blip on the throttle, small puff of smoke, all OK.

Hahaha.
Nice one Mike!

Think my last TV must have been a Lucas. That quit working after releasing smoke.

What prop would you guys recommend for a FA-50 on 16% nitro castor/synthetic oil?
From what I can gather 12x6 APC seems to be the prop of choice.

Going into a Super Chipmunk.

Hello mike and hope you laugh your head off. When you said lanzo bomber i'm thinking some ugly ww2 italian tri-motor jobby and wondering how the hell you got that to be a floater

Guy at the club has an electric one and they sure do stay up.

The pheonix rainbow ep kit arrived today, sure is pretty.Putting a 62 in that would be like the hulk meets sophia loren and the prop would hang out about 25mm in front of the cowl which reminds me i'm going to have to mix some 2pack on the paint bench next week because the cowl and fuse colours are way out.Your's the same?

Will check front to back measurements for the 30 before i order one here.Price is around $345 now.

Just checked the specs fore and aft for the little saito 30.It's 85mm front to back which leaves me with a 10mm gap from the cowl to the back of the prop....happy days

The Tiger Moth sounds wonderful (both). Be careful with the Camel, the full scale had a nasty tendency to ground loop. No ideas here for a set of headers for your cub. I'll bet w8ye would have some. If you can find soneone with a tubing bender and can heliarc weld you could make your own. You no doubt want aluminum. If you have any photos of your and your friend's Tiger Moth I'd love to see them.

Cheers,
Bill

Not that far off topic. I roll my own cigarettes (no, not that kind) will that smoke work?

In addition to Ferraris I'm pretty fond of Italiam women too - and boy are THEY tempermental. Want beautiful aircraft and autos? Look to Great Briton. Spitfire, Tiger Moth, C, D, E Jaguar, XJ6, XJ12, MG A and B. Aston Martin. There is no excuse for the Rolls Royce.

Bill

Email Kelvin at Keleo Creations and he'll very likely make what you need for the 90T. He's very good about that sort of thing.

Here is a shot of Keleo's quality work, this is my .90 triple turning a Graupner 12x7 at the rpm on the tach. Fantastic engine, its going on a Bruce Tharpe FlyinKing when finished. Sorry the prop running is a Bolly 13.5x6.

More Keleo exhausts. He didn't list one for the Enya v-twin on his website but a quick phone call was all it took to order one. Great guy and fantastic quality work.

Having worked on a lot of English cars when a teenager, while in my late 20's I wanted to buy a used British racing green MGC coupe with the Austin Healey 6 cylinder engine and the four speed with electric overdrive Layloc transmission, aluminum front end, and torsion bar front suspension. It was at a real low price and a couple years old. My wife having owned a MG sedan when a teenager said I could buy it but warned me about the Lucas electrical system. I owned the car for almost 6 years and actually never had any trouble with the electrical system. I enjoyed the car very much and used it to drive back and forth to work. It finally succumbed to the salt. I had enough of the knock-off hubs and squeaking wire wheels. The engine had almost no torque until you got to 3,000 rpm.

It was a lot like a model airplane I guess. Something to tinker with.

what size fuel tubing would you suggest for the saito 220, I am pretty sure the 3/32 tubing i am using right now is to small and restricting the flow of fuel.

thanks

Hello everyone. I'm back after a long absence. I just bought a FA-82a. new in the box on fleabay. The engine was as advertised, brand new. The question is this, I have a TurboHeader Muffler that I bought for a Saito 100. Will it work okay on the 82?
Thanks,
Larry

Birman,

I believe that the 82a and the 100 are both 12mm exhaust threads. I love my TurboHeader.

A tin knocker and a spray and a spray gun tedhnichian. Man, do you have a future here in Michigan. We love our salt[sm=drowning.gif]. Put the dang salt on your corn on the cob and keep it off the roads. As my dad used to say, "If you need snow tires you shouldn't be on the road." I'd say the same for salt. They are making cars now that are better able to ward off the dreaded sheet metal wire worms. There is only one way to properly repair a sheet metal panel. Cut, braze and hammer and if you are REAL good, hammer weld in a new piece. A lost art with all the plastic gumbo now available.

Attached are two cars that make the sweat run down the back of my legs.

Cheers,
Bill
