RWJ:

Sig Kadet Sr is a nice plane to fly as a trainer. The Saito 72 is a good engine for this. Even though this size engine is bigger than the plane specs call for, it is such a large plane that you'll like the extra power.

Based on my past experience, the 72 should burn about one ounce per minute. You may due a little better if you plan to run it at half throttle. The Kadet Sr has a large fuselage so you can probably get a 12 once tank in it and I personally would go up to a 14 ounce tank. I have flown this plane and when you get it up, you just want to keep on flying so you may want give yourself the extra capacity

Thanks Capt. , This is my second Trainer, my Instructor crashed my first while doing a check flight on it. Decided to go bigger and slower ( and different Instructor) on my next plane. Kadet seemed to fit. Thanks for the advice... Bob

I hope your first instructor paid for your second trainer and any repairs to the engine and radio/servos.

That practice got so bad in our club (not paying) that I finally suggested it at a club meeting. You should have heard the instructors threatening to quit teaching. I said good, that that was my idea in the first place. We then began qualifying instructors. Those that weren't officially qualified, could not teach (fly the student's models). That thinned the club's ranks of "instructors" down to just about the perfect ratio with a huge reduction in lost students' models.

The Instructor said he would repair it, but let it be known it would be in his own good time. Another member who is a builder said it would be a difficult rebuild. so I sold the remains and went and got the Kadet. I am sure he didn't mean to crash it, but I have to admit it was disheartening to invest a few hundred dollars and never touch the controls. Or watch it fly more than 15 seconds. But it gave me the excuse to buy a new Saito and plane.
Your clubs idea sounds like a good policy. I may bring it up at our meeting.
This is the most helpful forum I have been a member of, very helpful... Thanks to all.

A couple of pics for w8ye. Nosen Champ with Saito 1.30 twin for power. Not as nice as the one in his avatar but a decent plane and a great flyer.

That's nice. Be better to have one with a Saito in it.

I enjoyed learning to get my full size license in a 65hp 7AC Champ but the 95HP 7EC was a lot more fun. I got my original flight instructors license in a 95 hp champ. That was in the mid 60's and those same exact planes are still around today in North Florida

The 65 climbs and glides at 60 and cruises at about 72. Not much spread. 65 J-3 has about the same spread between climb and cruise. I have about 40 hrs in a 90 hp Reed Clip Wing J-3 that looked like the Sig clip wing Cubs. I liked it as well as the 85 hp Champ.

I have a LT40 tail dragger with a OS 52, a Telemaster 40 with a Saito 56, and a Robinhood 80 with a OS 91 Surpass II and these are my Champs and J-3's now.

Thought it would be nice to share my recently finished Kyosho Piper Cub 50. Powering it is a Saito FA-72. Both haven't been tested yet, but I have finished building a new engine test stand yesterday, so it's due soon[>:]

anyone know the name of the outfit making aftermarket single chamber single outlet exhaust for Saito? They have a website
Not thinking of RC Specialties Turbo muffler
Believe it's a one piece machined unit and has a few different angle manifold options.Comes with what looks like a more flat faced nut

OF, I call my cell phone my "electronic leash", if I lost it I would hunt in the opposite direction from where I thought it was lost.

RWJ:

I forgot o mention that on all my saitos (.65, .90, 1.00) I use a velocity stack on the carburetor. I have found that a velocity stack improves the consumption of fuel as it helps eliminate fuel wasted that naturally comes out of the carb during vapor process. It also helps keep the engine area cleaner. It is a cheap investment that will probably pay for itself thru saved fuel consumption. You can find these at Horizon Hobby.

Well i got my $25.00 fa80gk running this morning.. runs like a sewing machine. my problem is when i go from full throttle to idle it idles down but then waits a second then goes to normal idle..Any ideas?

Put another tank thru this today..Runs perfect..Transitions great.I leaned the lsn till it died when I idled up fast, Then I went a tad rich. When i go from WOT to idle it goes right down then like 3 or 4 seconds later it drops another 200 to the idle spot..Everytime

Sounds like your lsn is stiil rich.Had a flameout in the little thity yesterday low over the strip and turned 90 left instead of 270 right to soak up a bit more height into wind and squezzed the little rainbow thru an airfield fence.Heard a crack when it hit and luckily the only thing that got removed was the undercarriage,a ten minute and two cans of beer job

I am using one of these mufflers. With a normal 90ΒΊ fitting and one of their male/male 30ΒΊ fittings.
Even with all this plumbing, I believe I am getting more power out of the Saito 125.
Love them.

Their nuts are very thin. Which is a good thing in some cases. Not sure about conical....

Yes, I intend to run it some more with different props and using the Davis Plane Fuel Mixture. It will be posted in the Everything Diesel Forum. I don't want to abuse the rules more than I already have, Thanks

I need a little advice. My Saito 91 had one of the engine bolts that holds the main cylinder to the body of the engine, fell off in flight. I need to know what the size is as I may have to wait three weeks before the parts arrive. I am sure I can find it here in Trinidad but Horizons does not have the size stated on their web site and has not responded to my email

Mike would you be able to check the face of the nuts? Want to make sure if they're flat or not before I buy one
